hey all,

bout time for an update!

been a while, i now have all the bits for the the T56 Conversion, including the E-Series Hydraulic Pedal Kit (thanks HEAPS to Paul @ Mal Wood) as well as new injectors, new clutch and new suspension bits! (thanks Justin @ Tuff Car Parts)

i have been working on it a bunch as i hope to have it ready to see Paul @ CVE very soon for a full house tune!

i really hoped to have it finished by Geelong AFD, though by now i really have my doubts due to work commitments and uni starting soon, which generally means lack of proper time to work on her :(

ah well!

also, i fitted the 1.0mm oil restrictor for the turbo oil feed today so ill chuck up a pic of the differences haha!

Kind Regards,
Daniel

ive got a few questions.

why did u decide to change the input shaft when u need a clutch anyway?

i only ask that as u said in rat's thread u are getting an off the shelf xtreme.
why not get a clutch a flywheel package in 11" and never have to worry about it?

people put soft clutches in t5's to try save them u dont need to do that with a t56 so id be spending a bit extra so i wouldnt have to worry about it thats all.

i had to change the input shaft to suit the Bellhousing as the VY input shaft was to long, and the input shaft available was a 10 spline to suit standard clutches.

The reason i went with this clutch was for budget reasons, as i couldnt afford anything better at the time and this will suit my current power levels just fine.

if/when i up the boost further i will just change to a cushion button disc as the XHD pressure plate has an 1100kg clamp.

fair enough man.

the hd pressure plate i thought was 1100kg and the xhd was 1300kg?

cushion button is only a couple of hundred more.
i cant talk im on a massive budget haha.

let us know how it goes.
cheers josh.

yeah the XHD may be 1300kg, i'm sure ill find out haha!

I have already purchased and fitted the new clutch, but i have a friend who works at an exedy dealer so i can get pretty cheap discs, though i really wanted the Xtreme pressure plate so i just bought their kit.

i'll keep the updates coming!

Postby JETEL6 » April 16th, 2012, 9:10 pm

been a while!

as with all projects, i hit a few month slump though i'm now back into it full force!

T56 conversion is 98% complete, just need to bleed the clutch and set the speedo corrector :)

Fitted a new 32mm Copper Radiator, as the old one split the tanks!

plan is too drive it for a few hundred k's to bed the clutch in, then its off to CVE for a 12-14psi tune.

Happy to answer any questions.

Daniel

Yeah as per justa6 - heat is bad mmkay? At least put a layer of heat shielding around the reservior and another over the turbo and dump to try and keep it cool.

Is 1mm enough for the restrictor? I thought the usual was about 3? You don't want to starve the turbo of oil...

You do forget how many thousands it cost to get the 6 speed in there once you drive it for the first time hey - it's fucking magic being able to smash gears and not need the number of your friendly neighbourhood towie on speed dial!

heat leads to all kinds of nasties, this i know haha!

the dump pipe is double wrapped in heat wrap, and the turbo has a big F-Off beanie on it.

though making a heat shield for the reservoir isn't a bad idea, thanks Rollin!

hey, just looking at your test fit up of the clutch and bellhousing, and i noticed that you dont have a sandwich plate between the block and bellhousing... have you fitted one since? This will effect your CSC height setup...

I machined 8mm from the CSC mount on the gearbox faceplate.

I have since driven it and the pressure plate doesn't seem to bottom out.

More space snipez, is the short answer. You can get your hot side piping and the front dose pipe in. Cause you can get rid of the battery tray and the coolant reservoir holding bracket

Update!

i did a compression check on the motor and it has been revealed that my No.6 cylinder has bitten the dust :(

on the plus side, I'm thinking of putting an AU motor in it now with F6 Conrod/Piston Package!
are these parts readily available from fraud? or would i be better off to buy decent rods and aftermarket pistons?

also, will there be any nasty ramifications if i use me EL head?

Kind Regards,
Daniel
