Will be the diff no doubt.. I can hear the noise in my head right now lol. Many were replaced under warranty, usually the utes that carried loads.

Yea i hear ya but ive had many ed-el diffs go whiney in the past being live axle these prob arent that different and it doesnt quite sound like a whiney diff the noise is different. It really is like a bearing noise but it isnt lol i might need to take it to a shop get them to go for a spin could be tailshaft or that flange bearing i think...

If its diff that would suck

I gave up on the brakes in these things ages ago, you really can't use them like you want to, you have to drive around their problems unless you want to spend big $$ upgrading brakes to beyond factory spec. I get scared braking hard at anything over 150k/h because I'm certain I'll warp the brakes in a big stop/braking demand situation like that, even Brembos and mainly in cold and wet weather. I've warped brakes in Falcons from EA-BF doing that a couple of times, so now I just ease on or pulse the brakes or gear brake in manual and auto. My G6ET had warped brakes when I bought it, but Ford fixed it for free :D But goes to show the problem is still there :/

yea i agree every ford ive had in my life has warped brakes! i dont expect to fix it just make a tiny bit better/less easy to occur.

Im not singing the praises of holden brakes but i havent touched the brakes on my VZ for prob about 4 yrs maybe more i machined them when i first got it... and havent warped since... and they are basic small and nothing to write home about. Go figure

I thought all xr6t utes had 30 spline's in them. Not that easy or cheap to come by. I've always kept an eye out as an upgrade for mine.

This is pretty much what i got told by my mech... reckons wreckers charge for em to allow 100-200 for 1 bloody axle...

Surely this had to be a RWC issue with the guy who rwc the car a whole 3 weeks ago. I should have some sort of claim to recover some costs... or is tint illegal but a bloody axle not just because it hasnt been on today tonight

Unfortunately noises are not roadworthy issues, and you will never be able to claim compensation for something like a bent axle considering it may not have been so easy to spot, didn't you have the axles out to replace the bearings?

What an absolute load of crap. I understand mechanically if your engine or tranny is worn or gears etc etc... but something bent? damaged how does that not come under the check the car isnt ROAD worthy. Whatever next time i sell a car im going to hit as many gutters as i can.

Yea i had the axles out to change the bearings but unless they look like a banana and the car is undriveable it is probably not noticeable to the naked eye.

You dont need to take an axle out to see a wheel isnt spinning straight put it on a hoist and put the car in drive.

I dont expect anything of that nature im just annoyed that i lost my tint.. yet the wheels not turning straight isnt an issue for them.

Im not gonna bother waisting my time ringing the other bloke even if it was a rwc item im sure it would be an uphill battle.

The RWC thing is what it is.

Roadworthies are a hard line to walk on, on one hand you have the guys coming in saying, "I'll fix it later, just sign it off" or the "come on it's not that low/loud/wheels too big" all the way to the other end of the scale as you describe, people blaming a roadworthy technician for faults that really lay at the blame of the previous owner. If you didn't pick it up in your test drive or when you took it to the RW place, chances are they aren't going to look for mechanical faults that aren't going to affect the roadworthy.
Usually if a rear axle/wheel bearing is noisy a bent axle is the cause, just a tip for future reference next time when you put any solid axles back in run the car up on stands first to check the runout of the wheels. Also while they are out something as simple as a roll along a bench can pick up tiny defects and bends.

You can call VicRoads who will give you a number for RW supervisor's office or you may be able to get the number directly from the website. Don't give them your rego or anything though until you know what they'll do, otherwise your car may be recalled for a full RWC again lol.

Cheers Sunny. It is starting to seem more effort then it is worth but cheers for the heads up.

Yea mate i dont think so either. Apparently cheapest axle from a wrecker in all of melb is $400 bucks rang around everywhere.

I heard a few places say axles can be straightened so taking it to the bloke who built my vz diff he seems pretty switched on hopefully he can fix it all up a bit cheaper... reckons if he can straighten it its only about 70 bucks.. plus labour etc etc etc... still think it might be best bet esp if it has other diff related issues.

I can see this turning into just build me a new diff haha put 3.7s while your there!

lol not far off the mark i was in the last post... a little tyre/bearing noise issue i think i had has turned into a full diff rebuild with new lsd. Was gonna go tru trac but like everything fords is more expensive... if it was a ls1 ute the trutrac would cost the same as a diff rebuild!

Should get it back tomorrow hopefully all recoed with a tight lsd as the lsd was pretty average before.

Axle wasnt even bent apparently i take the word of a trusted diff shop over a generic mechanic. Just glad i didnt blow 400-600 fixing a straight axle and then doing the diff anyway so works well in the end the price for the rebuild is very reasonable so guess its a shit happens thing.

i didn't think bending one of those axle's, with this sort of power would be an easy task.

Got it back! New lsd and rebuild was all in the diff... car is just perfectly quiet now in the rear... no bent axles or any of that sht. Highly recommend supatrik in dande he has rebuilt the vz diff and now this and is great to deal with always up for a chat and helps out with techincal advice and his work has been great in both cars and he is reasonable on prices.

Very happy i didnt blow 500++++++ on replacing axles etc still would have been up for a new diff and being heaps of cash down... just got it out of there in time.

New diff is great steps out awesome. Haven't really smashed it on the brake but hitting boost on the right road steps out more often and shifting 1-2nd can usually step it out would chirp before but was prob pegging doing it.

Got the dose pipe on! Loving it first time ive had dose in a car of mine prob have it on for a few weeks till the novelty wears off as its a bit slower! Tried to record a vid but didnt turn out might try with someone else filming but hey it isnt unique im sure you have all heard it before!

Some pics from snow trip this weekend to falls on the way up.

Now when i have funds ill do these front bf brakes maybe get the calipers next week if i can source em and the discs week after or something

Well not a massive update but got the BF brakes on 2 weeks ago cant say i cant tell any real brake performance improve im sure there is one just cant really tell. But it is great not having shuddering brakes because it was just really bad prob the worst shudder ive had since my el ghia!

The slightly bigger brakes fill out the wheels a bit more. Interestingly the calipers are identical its just the bracket on the bf ones its different i just changed the bracket saved me bleeding brakes.

New ute still putting in work! Just not as much as the old one

Just wondering if i can sell my BA brakes, do people buy them to fit au etc? is it worth putting them up how much are they worth roughly?

AU owners will snap them up, but may be bit harder with warped rotors.
