AU3 EGAS Wagon - Phat Spec

After the EF's life came to an ambrupt end and Bethany having more injuries than me in the accident as I had the only airbag, I decided that the next car MUST have at least dual airbags. This pretty much left me with AU Futura onwards.

The hunt began, and after checking out numerous well worn examples, Bentley offered me his AU3 Egas for a price that was perfect for me.
Image

As this wagon is pretty much a moving billboard for the guard rolling business, I had to make it stand out.

Step 1 was replace the standard grille insert with one from an AU3 Fairmont
Image

Ingramm had a set of 19" Koyas for sale at a great price, so I purchased them the day the car went into my name.
Image

I wasnt keen on leaving them black as they make everything behind the wheel stand out more, so they were painted (roughly) white. They will probably be powdercoated at a later stage.
Image

Next on the list was suspension. I wanted it pretty low, and was told by numerous members of another forum that its hard to get AU wagons low.
I went to Pedders and had my leafs reset to the lowest they will do them.
Standard versus Reset.
Image

Up front I went with Ultima short shocks and Ultralow King Springs.
Image

While it was in the air, I rolled the guards.
Image

Standard height, and the new lowered height.
Image
Image

Got the wheels on and the car all stickered up, then went to see Zac at Freshest Whitewalls to have 10mm Orange and 5mm White walls done to stand out a bit more.
Image

Image

The only other things ill do with this will be Polyair load assist bags for when we do dog shows with Indy and minor cosmetic mods like Fairlane window chrome, black or white headlight inserts and maybe chrome mirror scalps.

Mintness! Looks like a great replacement dude, sucks the way it happened though. I recon add the rest of the Ghia chrome nose to it, would break up the front a bit. I've got an excellent donor car for this thing, blown V8 wagon FTW!! You buy! :P

Height is done proper. I don't normally like walls but they look OK 2.

Only things I'd change-
1. Wheel centres need to be a different colour- too much white.
2. Door sticker needs to be heaps bigger- you have a huge canvas might as well make it readable! :-)

I agree about the door sticker, why only one door? but the white wheels suit it I think

Looks really good Pete! Needs black and white plates!

As TUFED6 says, door stickers need to be bigger - spread them across both doors on he lower portion!

Stickers were done with height in mind, as the AU door moulds arent flat, so cant really go over them. Will try find some BA ones and see how much bigger I can go.

Ive got a thing for white cars with white centred dished rims, seeing Jecs Stato made my mind up, lol! Just wish I had more dish on the rear!

Also, managed to cop a defect for whitewalls while up at Easternats. Police were pretty keen on nailing the car for ride height, but even with 3 people and a boot full of stuff, was still legal :) Love AU floorpan with everything tucked up :)

So will have to throw my stockies back on, go to Vicroads, get it cleared and throw the wheels back on :/

i think those wheels were destined to see that car, i didnt realise they were ingramms wheels painted on it, as i was going to buy them for it too, but then you said you were keen on the car so i forgot about buying wheels... fucken lol

It did, I've always wanted a car which could pull off white wheels, this car does.

Are they the painted on walls? Or the ones that sit in the bead (flappers?)? the painted ones aren't defectable as far as I know, but the ones that sit in the bead can affect the seal from what I understand. There was also talk of whitewalls that require you to cut out the sidewall of the tyre and insert the whitewall in, although I don't think they would work on such low profile tyres.

Wagon looks pretty mint, wheels suit it well. I agree with bigger advertising on the doors, or possibly even use the rear side windows, so people have it at eye height when they drive past the car.

they're painted on walls, but they (depending on tyres) may or may not require the side wall to be 'shaved', petes are shaved.

whitewalls are usually deflectable as they skim away the rubber on the sidewall to paint them and have them sit flush..

And from what I understand It's because you can no longer read the tires specs.

Love the wagon man. I was actually looking at au fairmont v8 wagons before I bought my patrol :)

its against vic road rules to remove or add any mass or to affect the integrity of the sidewalls... thus even paint on without shaving the walls is against the law here in vic..

they also recently passed a law where you need an engineers certificate to have fun on sundays too
