Okay, So I'm relatively new here, This is the first car i've owned or will own off my own back. I'm only 15 so cut me some slack...
It's an 86 XF Fairmont Ghia, Looks pretty Grandpa spec... 160,000KM's... Picking it up on Saturday.

Image

Untill you pop the bonnet  AU II XR6 Engine, Genie Extractors, XR6 Chip, 2 1/4" Exhaust... And obviously the plans are to keep up with the mowing rounds, Grab meself a part-time job, do me VCE and straight Gas, Boost it. Need to get it to run better than an 11.5 just to show up an old friend and his dads WK Caprice...

Image

Anyway, Inside. All works, EF Dash conversion. Only one thing I'm going to change is the GLi Trim, to Fairmont.

Image

Anyway, Thoughts an opinions wanted. What i should do to get it to run 11.5?
- Mitch.

Not to sure on whats been done on the inside. 15PSi would destroy it with Stock Internals most likely? I heard you can get CMS Kit's that make like 400 Horsepower without a Turbo for like 4 Grand?

Nice. I'd move that radiator header tank a bit further away from the exhaust if you can.

you won't be doing 11's N/A without stupid amounts of $$ thrown at it.

either nitrous or turbo, and given you're looking at LPG, then Turbo makes more sense.

stock motor will be pushing its luck with any thing more then 10psi, it can be done, and has been done a number of times though.
plenty of builds around here with details on whats needed for a quick car, atleast you have weight on your side.

Good point, Will look at doing that when i pick it up Saturday. And yeah, It was on eBay, and i got it a bit cheaper than what he wanted for it :D
True EF, I would like to keep it N/A for P's but I'm desperate to get 11's so will start saving for a Turbo.
Cheers, Mitch.

Mint!

I reckon the first thing is get one of these > viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25150 and relocate your battery to the boot and that engine bay will look neat as.

Sick first car though, wish my first car was half as cool as that.

Also, if you turbo it leave it looking like it is haha.

Re: GIFFS XF

Postby GIFFO97 » February 9th, 2013, 5:27 pm

So i picked up the XF today, Theres a few things on it that i don't like. It hasn't got a handbrake and the exhaust has a hole in it, Needs a bit of a tidy up and a few things fixing on it for a Roady, but as do all cars. The Motor runs fine and the Auto shifts well, I found out that the Speedo is out 20kmph and 100k's, When i'm sitting on 100 I'm doing 123, Because of the XR6 Chip etc and the fact it's running a 2.77 Diff, If i put a 3.45 in it, It should get it back in range. Anyway she's a fixer upper and it'll eventually i'll get there. Now that I've got it, I'll let you chaps know what i payed, $1500, Good deal?
- Mitch,

Maccas Stop on the way home.... Bit of trouble getting it started again :P Theres a trick and thats tap the dash 3 times when you've got the key turned and then it'll crank over... Ain't no one gonna steal this thing!
Image
Image

At home...
Image
Image
Image

As i said, The EF Dash, It needs a tidy up, Hoping to put some woodgrain in there i have some parts needed under the wanted topic if you care to check them out. The Dash has been cut to fit, And it wasn't too professional so i'll be fixing the sides up, Or possibly getting a new Crash Pad?
Image
Image
Image

And saved the best for last Ehh, Will look into getting one of those Theromostat thingys to get rid of the header tank.
Image
Image

So what do you guys reckon? Bit of fixing up to do, But it'll make a good first car?
Cheers, Mitch.

Haha Brad, Seems i have an Oil Leak. Depending on if it worsens i may rip the motor out towards April and rebuild the Internals etc. So when it's ready i can bolt a Turbo straight on and not have to worry about if the motor can or cannot handle it.

Stole dads bonnet because mine had a dent in it - XG Grille looks so much better too! Heading down the wreckers this weekend to get some bits and pieces. Hopefully they may have a DF/DL LTD which i can pinch some woodgrain from.
Also in the planning is to get rid of the XF Power windows on the doors and change it all over to EF/EL Power Windows in the Centre Console.
