Okay guys so I just got under the car for the first time - and there is no way I'm ever going to get this thing roadworthy! I'm going to vicroads tomorrow to see if I can get it changed into my name without a roadworthy and get 14 days to get one. Even then it will be hard for me to do with $600 spare cash. I need to get some close members on board to help me if possible. I have power steering leaks, oil leaks, I need to fabricate a new gearbox mount, fit a new airbox, new exhaust and other things! If theres any members here who have the time on the weekends to come and help I would highly appreciate it as there is a lot of work involved and as a 15 year old I haven't got the knowledge how to do everything. Please let me know if you'd be avaliable to help this weekend, I'm in Cranbourne. Saturday I will be getting a crash pad and air con plumbing (air con needs to be wired up) and there is heaps of other work to do! So if anyone is up for a challenge and free to help, I'd highly appreciate it! Thanks again boys, Mitch.
I'd ask the seller for all the original XF Ghia parts - driveline, dashboard assy, everything.
If there are as many issues as you say, the fella obviously never got it roadworthied like it is. He converted it after getting it registered.
You'll need an engineers certificate to pass a roady with an AU engine in an XF. Even though the XF chassis is close to XG, there were a few changes to it, for the heavier OHC engine.
Be much cheaper to convert it back to standard, roady it, then modify it to your tastes afterwards, as you go along.
I would say an engineer will want the engine on straight gas too, unless you have an emissions test done. I believe emissions testing costs about what you paid for the vehicle, and then some.
Tread with caution, before spending any money on parts.
Current Projects
97 EL V8 wagon - cool cruiser, or street bruiser? CLICKY 93 XG panel van - at your door in 60 secs, or the first hr is FREE........ yep, that's the goal. 95 XG ute - awaiting a head gasket...... grrrrr.
74 XB GS pano..... with all the good stuff...well it came out of the factory with the good stuff.... not much there now .........long term resto.
So i have been lookin around at all the Fords for a really Narrow airbox that will fit in where it needs to go but i can't find one, However what i have come accross is a VS V6 Commodore Airbox that will fit straight in, I just need to make some custom plumbing. Whats everyones opinions? Give it a crack or what?
Just do it. A360 air filters are 3$ too. If it doesn't work you haven't pissed much money away.
Cheers

Get another XF with rego and roady then do another transplant.
I don't think you'd need an engineers for the motor conversion though, just depends what your roady guy says. 90% of the time the person at dickroads won't know the difference.

Saw this on eBay a while ago. Definately has potential for a lot of power with the AU motor ! Keep up the good work, don't put any badges on it other then original ones !

Looking at an EL Fairmont Ghia parts car on eBay, Hopefully if i get it for what i want to pay - I'll be able to make EL Door trims fit and reroute the power windows to the centre Console
New Crash Pad going in over the long weekend, As well as the XG Sway Bar and the new Speedo gear i got from adxr8 - Dad's fabricating a new Aluminium Gearbox mount as the 4 Speed in the XF doesn't quite mount right, And hopefully I'll be able to make up some sort of Console support to fill in the gaps where it doesnt sit right on the floor hump. Will get pictures as i go along, Was good to meet some of you blokes at the Mini meet last night
Bit of an update, Didn't end up getting that EL Fairmont Ghia. Had the XF on eBay for a while but it didn't sell so now it's in the garage collecting dust while i wonder where to start. I've collected myself a bunch of parts that need fitting, Which i'm hoping to do over the school holidays. The New Crashpad is there, ready to go in which was a hard job getting out of an EF so I'm going to have a hard time fitting it in an XF, I assume. Handbrake Assembly is there, I just need to bolt it all up. And I'm going to chuck the new Headunit in it over the holidays too. I'm still looking for a set of 16" FTR's for around 200-250 and a White XG Grille. Anyway, The main point of this update is.... A few weeks back i fixed a neighbours Window Reg in an EB. She gave me this, A Fibreglass BA Bulge along with a Brand new AU XR8 Twin System Tailpipe & Muffler, Which i have for sale for $30 in the Classified section... So check that out... So the Bulge looks pretty cool and hopefully this will be one more thing i MAY get done on the Holidays......
Another Update, Few things going on. As you can imagine it's quite slow on Take-Off with a 2.77 so we've been trying to change it over to a 3.45 ratio - But it is a bit pricey to do so via altering my original diff. So I will be taking out the 2.77, Bolting in EF Control Arms, EF 3.45 LSD, EF Calipers then EF Handbrake Cables to a Floor mounted Handbrake. Crash Pad has been fixed thanks to a Dash Mat and the rest of the Dash is fitting up well. Found the source of the Power Steering leak and a new Power Steering Box is going in sometime this weekend which will give us a chance to straighten up the steering wheel Have bought a set of FTR's off Wombi90 and he will be dropping them down when he gets around to it If i don't find another set of wheels for cheaper between now and then Tidied up the engine bay wiring and I've painted the Pod Tubing but hopefully will be fitting the pod into a Box in the near future and connecting the Vaccum hose on the Motor Apart from that it's starting to come together...
