my fuel probs are back...
so this is what i filled up about 5 days ago

reset odometre and its showing that ive done 273k's atm, tank was almost empty

and this is what my trip read out is...

and it took another 62L of petrol..

i dont even thrash the thing and it still hates me lol, this sucks considering my dads v8 is getting 15L/100k to a tank and hes throttle happy! might add it developed a lumpier idle today for some reason.. might just end up giving it to a mechanic and let it be there problem

God damn that's a lot of fuel!!

Is it cammed? What do the plugs look like? You haven't done something like put AU injectors in it?

its wasiting 26L/100km now..

no camm, ill post a picture of the plugs if you want? they look pretty black... i put au injectors in recently but ive had this problem long before that

Could a vac leak be the problem? I had a split hose on my ED I replaced it and the fuel economy has improved to something half reasonable..

Id say au injectors won't help without a tune.
But check for leaks defiantly. Make sure reg isn't leaking fuel into the inlet.

hey i checked and followed pretty much all the lines around the intake and i couldnt find anything! car is at mechanics now so ill post up the findings once they are done with it

the injectors were tested before fitted, they spray good and i also used some carbi cleaner on them, fuel reg was the only thing i didnt touch tbh

Yeah. They can spray fine and such but au injectors are bigger then ef el and when opened can spray more fuel into the cylinder richening it up a lot. Also making it use a shit load more fuel.
Best way to run injectors is to get them tuned in by removing fuel from the table

bit of an update... got the car back from the mechanics today, and after looking at the engine this is what they came up with. the timing was off, the intake manifold gasket is gone and had 2 bolts missing, and the threads that the bolts run along are gone.. apparently you cant notice it when the car is idling but once your driving it would be losing a fark ton of air which sounds good enough.

now i have 2 things i can do, slap a new low km motor in thats sitting in my back yard or i can pay to just have this fixed. decisions....

Sound like you were fed a load of shit.
Best thing you could do is find a boosted member that will helicoil two bolt holes and replace the inlet gasket for a box of beer.
Then start looking for the problem like a partially blocked cat or shagged 02 sensor.

im with taxi, id replace the 02 sensor and check the cat out. they will definitely impact your fuel economy

i hope not cause ive ran out of things to do about it, replaced pretty much all the sensors and put in a full exhaust. had it scanned on computer, had the head tested etc its gotten to the point that i pretty much wanna rip the motor out. lucky to give me 280km from a tank

decided to give it a nice clean today as the weather was mint
changed a couple of things last week, it now has no tow bar and a genuine cover, decided to put the bigger shark fin spoiler on and also a custom north geelong 2.5" catback with 3" down pipe exhaust tip. Pretty happy with it :)

A vacuum leak and timing being out doesn't sound like a load of shit but your options of how to fix it were a bit drastic.
if you cant find someone to helicoil thethreaded bolts just replace the gasket and fix the timing. If the 2 missing bolts are on 2 different cylinders then there won't be an issue.
I'd be keen to know how the mechanic knew the gasket is fucked without taking the bbm off unless its painfully obvious.

ecu is the only thing i havent touched so thats next until i do something about the intake yeah the motor will be staying haha

Most times you can hear the inlet gasket. Also spraying carby cleaner along the join will generally show a leak.

here is the stock bulb compared to the diamond visions. they look much better but didnt improve visibility too much. gonna adjust them tonight see how i go :)

Angel eyes look so much better on EL XRs than any other IMO.. They just look so, right..

nah gave up on it, still averages around 20L/100km even though ive been on highway roads 70% of the time. it gets a little over 300km a tank, just try not to drive it around as much

nah it runs normal, usually sits around m sometimes a

Would speed up diagnosis.

I got Crystal Visions which are the one down. Slightly less white, slightly more bright. Still shit in the standard EL reflectors. Hopefully the Diamonds throw better with XR projectors.

Angel eyes look good.

spotted yourself and that heritage green xr6 today at hungry jacks in tullamarine.

get that fuel consumption looked at. getting 300km out of a tank is pretty shit, i get around 500 out of mine

I got 300km to $40 in the xh before going to the bbm and it was running a little rich.
So something is all fucked up with yours.

EF bottom end with ported EB head, valve springs, EL ECU & J3 chip, crane HI6 CDI & MSD coil, LC-1 wideband & SSI-4 logger

soon - .595" lift cam, GT4202, forged AU engine and built head, ems stinger 4424 ecu, powerglide with 5500 high stall etc - next, bellhousing

XH ute daily - DOHC BA XR6 engine, T5, AU3 ECU with TI J3 chip, ported BBM, 3" stainless intake - 12" sub, tub liner and hard lid - mass skids and epic tyre carrying capabilities :)

i hope so, the diamond visions arnt as bad as the stock bulbs in the xr headlights but they still dont show much of the road. e series lmao thanks mate :)

should have came down :)

i have checked with 2 different mechanics they found nothing just that intake gasket bullshit :/

i wish my xr was that efficient, it runs fine just likes to drink alot :/

Ahh fair enough. I would have swapped the gasket for you if you were closer
