Paul's 97 EL Ghia

Postby MontyGhia » May 18th, 2013, 9:42 pm

Hey all. I recently joined on here so thought I would toss a few of my EL Ghia up...

EL Fairmont Ghia Tickford 4L.
Sparkling Burgandy.
Tickford Body Kit.
Fairlane grill and corner lamps.
Still got the original 15s Ghia rims, soon to be shafted for a set of Simmons FR-17 RBS in silver.
Kenwood double din hooked to the original Ghia speaker and amp array.
Pacemaker extractors.
2.5" Catback exhaust.
K & N filters

Restored
New Nolathane bushes all round which cost more than the old girls worth lol.
Hydraulic Engine mounts
3 bar radiator
Ball Joints and tie rod ends

Future Mods
2180L Pedders Sportsryder Coil Spring/Pedders Gas Sports Ryder-Big Bore Shock - Rear
9918R Pedders Gas Sports Ryder Strut - Front
Simmons FR-17 RBS in silver

Enjoy :)

Looks like an awesome starting point. I personally would get rid of that grille and get an EL Ghia grille. Looks lots better.

Btw what do you mean by Simmons fr-17 rbs?

Yeah I've got the Ghia grill still, have to get it painted. The middle bar has faded out. Cheers for the feedback.
These are the Simmons wheels I'm talkin about...

Nice car, always have a soft spot for a tidy kitted EL Ghia, good to see your getting rid of that grille haha.. Polish the Ghia wheels up and lower it would look great.. Will have to keep an eye out for you driving around Hervey Bay..

I'm fast getting a complex about THAT grille lol. Might have to put this one back in I'm thinking. Not sure what the RBS stands for Braad, but the recess in the dish is different to the standard FR 17.

Oh ok. I have never heard of rbs either. You can however get as much dish as you want. What sizes are you going wheel wise? I would suggest 17x8 & 17x10 to be safe but the rear can technically fit 17x11 :P

Change of grille looks heaps classier!

Thanks Tech :drinks2: Yeah Brad I was thinking likewise. What's the best size tyre's for these in your opinion? I like the idea of 275/50/17 and 245/50/17s? Would I have any drama's with these sizes keeping in mind I intend to lower her by 30mm all round? Even though I've had the old girl for 4 years I really have no idea on what fits with what so any feedback gratefully accepted.

you may have issues with 50 profile, 45 profile would be more suited to the 17's

Might even need 275/40/17 to keep the speedo close enough.
45 on a 275 would be quite tall

Cheers for the heads up fella's. I'll check out the 40s as the last thing I want to hear is the tyre's scrubbing the guards out. Any tips on brand? I've recently had a mate have to go back to his factory wheels on his VE after spending a grand+ on a set of Bridgestones "new wheels" because of the bull**** road noise. Something I never really thought about until I went for a run with him and it was unbelievable!

BTW the original grill is in the paint shop getting a new coat of colour and on it'll go in a few days lol. Thanks for the feedback blokes. I personally thought the Fairlane grille looked ok, shows how muck I know huh :P

Get your rear guards rolled mate. Will help with tyre clearance.

The main tyres that have road noise are directional and also some asymmetrical have a bit of noise.

Thought I'd update some new additions,

17' ANZ mayhems wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza 235/45/17'
EL GT Steering wheel in rosewood
Rosewood timber door spears
9918 Pedders Gas Sports Ryder Strut and springs on front "lowered 30mm,
9076 Pedders Gas Sports Ryder Shock & 2130 Pedders Sportsryder Coil Springs on the arse end "lowered 60mm"
Oh and put the original Ghia grill back in repainted ;)

Looking for some input on tweaking the donk fella's. Don't won't a gas sucking monster, just a bit more kick than she currently has. Starting point... Tickford EL motor with Pacemaker extractors and 2.5 Catback exhaust and K & N filter and that's all she wrote.

Cheers Paul

A nice cam is likely to liven it up a bit. But needs a nice tune with a j3 at the least
