it came off a BA, so should be no dramas.
just needs power and input from each injector, not rocket science lol
i might do some photoshopping with the colors.

the FTRs wouls look mint a bit brighter with metalic paint.

the ute came up looking nice.
as you can see in the pics i still need to go over it with a lighter compound then wax it but my back can't handle that two days in a row lol.
the numberplate is fixed now btw :P
i'm taping up the rest of the loom tonight also, so other than that i need to mound the coils and it will be road worthy.

pcv is now hooked up :P
also secured everything in the engine bay ready for the roady next week.
i hooked up the wideband and datalogger tonight so i can start working on the tune. i leaned the tune off a bit the otherday and apparently now at cruise its around 14:1-16:1 but i'm not sure thats super accurate, last time i had the wideband going the car would lose a heap of power if it went as high as 16, this time it went up to even 17:1 and no drop off in power, so not sure what the go is.

Re: XH ute

Postby misk » December 4th, 2013, 8:52 pm

been trying different tunes on this lately.
best i managed was 150ks to around 16l but i want to hook up the trip meter to see whats actually going on.
in the last few days its getting 100-120ks consistently from 14l
even got 100ks from E10 around town, no fwy.
its actually just running a standard AU tune with some timing added and i increased the injector slope to lean it out.
so once the tune is actually tweaked should see some more consistent numbers, shouldn't get any worse anyway haha so its all better than getting 70-80ks to 14l.

also picked up an LS1 throttle body, i'm going to make an adapted so i can run it on a standard manifold. pretty sure its 70 or 72mm. cost me $70 thought id give it a crack, the DOHC motors have that size standard so shouldn't be a drama to run on what i've got now and then will allow the DOHC to breath like it should.

picked up some stainless screws to replace all the rusted fucked ones around the car lol. i'm planning on polishing the heads, cant decide whether plain black would look better?

i'm also picking up some BA XR6 seats in cream color unfortunately lol but for $100 thought why not, i'll keep an eye out for blue or purple and get them in the future.

after that shit and the RWC i'm putting the injected gas straight in! can't afford the fuel lol.

some pics
i painted some of the black plastics, i'm slowly doing eavery piece including around the tail lights, thoughts on whether i do the tail light surround blue like the car or black?

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

these are the seats, not the best, so i'll clean them up and see if i can at least stitch up the hole and will keep an eye out for better ones when they pop up cheap
Image

picked these up from a paddock thanks to petes tip off haha, gonna put some slicks on them after a paint.

Re: XH ute

Postby misk » December 8th, 2013, 10:40 pm

started the sill tonight. cut out the rust at the b pillar/sill join and in the section of the lower sill, have made up the new piece for the b pillar join but was getting dark so call it quits.

i've noticed since doing the AU conversion that my tacho reads low. i thought i remembered someone saying somewhere that the tacho is in V8 mode by default as there is'nt a V8 and i6 tacho, just the one.

does anyone know anything bout this?
also bought an EL rocker ass. as the EA/EB ass. i used which came from the XG where it ran silently was rattly as ****!
but the EL setup is also a bit rattly, but can't tell if its a few fucked lifters or another issue. i've no idea why the earlier style rockers all of a sudden decided to rattle so much, but they o
nly had on shim when setup with the 1521a in the xg.

do billet cams still have ford markings?
i would assume not, but have never heard of a regrind running on only one shim.i had it running with the 977b and EL rockers but didn't feel any powerful if at all over standard. so i'll look at the tune that came with it, might be running **** all timing or something.

It's not a billet if it has ford and other markings cast on it lol.
The tacho doesn't have a V8 mode, they're all the same 6 or 8, you've got an issue with the signal I'd say.

Postby misk » December 10th, 2013, 11:15 pm

so i did the rust on the sill today.
was a bit daunting lol but i reckon it turned out pretty good!
still have to put body sealer on the joins like factory and then maybe some bog to smooth things out a bit.

this is all i need to do for the roady so hopefully i can take it in tomorrow (tuesday)

i put more timing into the 977b tune and it now feels like i have a cam in it but still needs alot of work. i'm hoping to data log shit and tune on the go with the laptop on the way to the mechanics tomorrow.

i do plan on replacing the entire sill at one point, i just needed to stop the rust
and get the car road worthy at the moment, i'll worry about making it prettyerer later on.

some pics.

Well done misk!
I've got a cheap gasless mig from eBay too, and i surprise myself sometimes with how well welds come out! I'm no pro welder but i can definitely lay down nice beads with my $200 ebay gasless lol. Just have to make sure the feed is always clean and keep replacing the tip and shroud.

Postby misk » December 11th, 2013, 3:57 pm

cheers boys!
i'm finishing off a turbo manifold for someone today but in between that i'm grinding the bigger patch ont he sill underneath and changing the seats over.
for the roady i need to make the horn work (think its just unplugged lol) water in the washer bottle, dry out the indicators and put the stockies on.

so i'll be doing those bits and pieces so i can take it in tomorrow and get the roady.
then i'm gonna clean it up for the great ocean road cruiise by giving it a cut n polish.
it needs to be done cause i did it with a harsh cut to get the overspray off so you can see cut marks in the clear coat in the sun.

i'm also getting the OBDII scaner working so i can data log and clean up the tune for this 977b.
it goes alright but not as good as a 1521a!
just have to use that lack of power as motivation to get the DOHC running!

next friday i'm picking up a 3.27 LSD off holmsy and i'll also buy the rings for the barra.

slowly slowly...

well the cluster now works. no idea why!
the tacho and the water temp were the only things not working as they should but all is good!

half way through changing the seats over tonight, can't get one bolt out on each side, need a proper tool not an allen key lol.
might do the dash conversion this week as well so the seats will match a bit better but we'll see what happens.

Those Torx bits are a pain.
Every kit I found stopped one size too small for the seats.

I ended up finding a cheap tamper-proof set that goes up to the right size (T50 I think) at SCA, or Autobarn.

Looks exactly like this.

Yep seat bolts are t50. One of mine was that tight I had to get a foot long tube over the bit, I was waiting for the stupid thing to strip... cracked it and it was all good lol.

I use 1/2 torque bits.
Tough as nuts and work like a charm. So much easier then using the long tools.

Plus 1500nm on the rattle gun works a treat haha

i bought a 3/8 t50 socket from total tools for about $10 to do my seats, so much easier than the allen key type ones.

managed to find a set of good keys for $10. bursoins was $20 for a single bit and no where else had the singles.

all good, didn't realise the el base wouldnt fit the BA+ anyway lol so ill just find some bases and mod the feet.
got the car all ready for the roady though, **** 205/15s are useless for traction in a ute lol, good fun i guess but too shit scared ill get pulled over skating everywhere.

I am pretty sure that XHs use an EF/L base with a spacer under the rear inside leg so it is similar in height to the boxcar seats. Not sure if boxcar seats actually fit in an XH, someone else might know.

15s on a manual XH do sweet **** all, I remember that from mine. Was good fun trying to take off in the wet, but it was hard with cops behind you

soo hopefully gonna have the adapter pipe thingy made for the LS1 throttle body tomorrow. just have to go plasma cut the centre bit and steal some 3" pipe from somewhere lol.
have to have a look at the accelerator cable and make sure it will all work, will have to make up a custom bracket for it but thats no biggy.

standard falcon is around 64mm i think and LS1 is 74mm, so will be a bit of a jump. i know it won't give me 11tykw but will be interesting to see what it does. everyone else just uses the 68mm throttle bodies i think.

anyway, pics.

so ive been chasing a noisy lifter...
i figured it must be the rocker arm after trying 3 different LHAs in it so i just gave up and put in my 1521a with the rocker ass. from the XG which is EA-Eb1 style but it was silent on the XG.
e
its a bit rattly, but it only has 1 shim in for the regrind, thats how it was on the XG and ran fine lol.
i'll try 2 shims again, i tried it earlier and it ran like ass but discovered on LHA had the shims stacked long ways behind it so it would have been putting pressure on the valve.
i'll try resetting the HLA this time when i put them in with 2 shims.

anyway the cam runs mint as lol so much more pull!
at 60ks in 2nd i can clutch dump and skate down the road on the limiter. need to raise it a bit.
the tune is actually really close so i'll make a few small changes and its fine to use. so once i get it running quiet in the lifters again i'll just leave it til i put the barra in.

i have made up the flanges for the LS1 throttle body so i have to drill some holes in them and get some 3" pipe to try and make the LS1 tb fit somewhere. i' gonna try get it done tomorrow but will see what happens.
