Update!

over the easter weekend i have had a rear end stack, resulting in the rear bar faarked. skirt survived luckily.. so not so bad.

however was Racing an Fg Xr off the lights Sunday night when i took it for a spin, Grabbed 3rd and the clutch plate pretty much tore itself apart,
not so much winning! oh well. back to the shed :banghead:

Was hating life with the new 977, I advise everyone to do this as it drives so much nicer! :good:
Rpm doesn't lag returning to idle. Doesn't take seconds to return to idle at the lights. Excellent.

Do you find the car surges while decelerating?

naah mate not at all, only thing that made a difference where the IAC Helps,
is full lock on power steering and aircon, where the IAC is supposed to raise the idle a little.
but i rarely use aircon when at the lights and full lock you just give it a squirt :)

didnt affect me, but if you dont warm your car up in the morning before you drive it its a bit touchy.. doesnt stall though.

A tune would make it work properly.

Have you tried resetting your base idle? Helped with my old ea and rev hang.

No doubt a tune would fix it. I would have disconnected it anyway. Yeah base idle is set.
It runs good anyway. After not having it I find no need to put it back on.

In regards too the "option 20" chaser clusters, I've been told and read that they are up to 15% adjustable with the speedo reading? Is this true?

As I need about 12.5% adjustment when I put the fresh diff in with 3.9's.

Cheers.

failing everything else, just change the gear on the speedo drive to something closer to what you need

Didn't think you could get a speedo gear to suit higher than 3.45's?

There is probably one available, just have to hunt around for it. There is always the Jaycar kit for adjustable speedo correction as well. Always a way, sometimes you have to look harder. I am sure there would be a speedo gear somewhere that would suit the application, even if it is for something else

I'll have a sus out. I had a Jaycar in my last commodore.
Would much rather a cluster swap over building another one of those Jaycar kits haha.

Some good updates, some bad.

Xr now has full electric windows, yay!
Image

On the other hand when I had the rear ender about a month ago it's snapped the rio bar slightly, broken bar clip, nothing bad! The rio has seen better days but isint gonna fall off so I'll just leave it.

New bar clips and then she goes back together!

So I got the xr out and drove to work today (kinda had too) as the slowdeo's aircon comp seized and snapped all the belts. I know what I'm doing this weekend!

Anyway. Gave it a full detail before I left work. For the first time in months, and she came up alright.
Image
Image

And I put an aftermarket gear knob on (I know)
But the factory one is gay with the plastic thread and stripped last time I took it off.
So here is the result!

Anyway! Have a lovely weekend everyone. :drinks2:

Had a big day today. Some ups and downs.

Downs: when I installed the 977b I was in a rush as I was running out of light on such day.
Left two rags in the engine which I found today when I was pulling off the inlet manifold. Faaaark.
Image
I now know why it took so long for new lifters to bleed up when cold.
How I didn't see that! What the?!

Anyway. Pulled the exhaust manifold off. Now to find another set of extractors. Hidden with an au shield. Something that fits nicely is the hard part. Lukey or genie style seem to be pretty close.
Image

Replacing all the coolant hoses, porting the inlet manifold, then painting in matte black, Colour coding the rocker cover to heritage green. Replacing all the hard basket shit that's annoying to get to with a complete engine.
Image

Waiting for mr CVE, to finish his billet fuel rails. One of them with some au injectors will go nicely.

Pulled the heater box out. New evap and heater core to go in.

Had a fair crack today, heater box and dash back in, trip computer installed (illumination issue, will fix tomorrow)
After a **** around with the body loom (CRT LMP) fuse was blowing. Common fault being the boot light shorting.

One more electrical gremlin to sort out tomorrow (no power to the drivers
Front door) potentially a broken wire.

If all goes well will have the t5 out and flywheel out for machining with new clutch.

Cheers. :)

Big night last night! First night back on the road. No real dramas at all. Some pics :)

Note: no more stickers. (Less attention), new sideskirt and! I got 3 streets down from my house on the test drive. First drive in months! And defect. Too low. I suspect if was only because it was in the gutter with a passenger still in the car. Any who! Great to have it back.

You get defects once a week as it is with a car that doesn't look that low or having anything really illegal on it. So boosting it probably isn't a good idea

Second defect it's ever had, haven't been pulled over since last Friday, haven't really been looked at, needs a second muffler in the tailpipe though. Hate how droney it is.

End of one! Start of another.

Few weeks ago the xr sedan spun a bottom end bearing and punched a hole through a water jacket so I slapped another engine in it and straight swapped it for this:
Factory manual 8/96 build, XH 1
Has cruise, working Aircon and a nice tight box.
Still got the factory clutch in her so that's the first thing to fix.
Anyway! Pics as follow.

Unsure as yet! SL front struts are in, 3" blocks in the rear, want to do something with the gearboot/knob as I don't like it haha.

Needs some stickers and a new tonneau cover cause it's not perfect enough. Maybe some El gt's I reckon.

As for the drive line. Lsd is still good. Might chuck a 977b or something similar in it. But mostly leave it all alone :)
