understand indicates the car

I have this alarm on my car which i recently bought but didn't come with any info about the alarm. I have just heard my car bleep as if i had just locked it....which i didn't it was already locked then the handset bleeped, so i went outside n noone was near my car, so i checked it was locked and went back in. Im a little worried now as to why it did this, the handset is now flashing a locked padlock symbol which i understand indicates the car alarm is armed.
