Fairlane by Tickford Build Number 090 of 106

So I decided to make a separate thread for this as my turbo build is fairly quiet, and has been for years now.

My plan was to look for another e-series as a daily once I returned from by trip to New York and Dubai with the missus. I've always
had a soft spot for the EL XR8 so I was initially planning on looking for a decent Series 2 when I got a message from Matt (EDSprint)
asking if I was interested in purchasing the FBT he had just got licensed as he knew I was a big fan of the car.

One thing lead to another and I ended up purchasing Build number 090 of 106 from him.

Its navy blue and fairly clean. The paint isn't perfect with a number of small chips on the bonnet and front bar, plus the bootlid needs
to have the holes filled in where a previous owner (not Matt) fitted a shitty looking spoiler. The chrome door moulding on the
front passenger needs to be replaced as its missing.

As for the interior the steering wheel will need to be recovered as its worn through the cappa in some places...

Plans are simple;
- replace the missing door moulding;
- have the bootlid resprayed and filled;
-finish swapping over the interior woodgrain to the darker EL GT/LTD woodgrain;
-a mild lowering job (nothing more than low springs probably);
-basic exhaust to have it sounding decent; and
-some suitable custom white on black number plates.

It's such a pleasure to drive and I understand why so many FBT owners seem to rave about them. I'm still adjusting to the cappa
coloured interior though.

Some pics from the day after it was dropped at home.

Some pics after finally giving it a good wash, polish, glaze, seal and wax. Its hard to tell in the pictures but the paint has come
up really well, especially when its in full sunlight.

thanks mate yeah it'll do the job nicely... Seats are similar with regards to bolstering but not quite the same; both however
are very comfortable....

Yeah I've noticed that; plan is to give it a weekly basic clean meaning I dont have to apeshit with all my cleaning products...

Nice pickup. Like your plans with it.

Always had a soft spot for these ever since looking over one in a dealership when they were new.

Thanks mate. Plans are for it to remain largely stock, as I've already got one Extensive e-series build (slowly) going on. Given its hefty size and weigh its Never gonna be a world beater!

Nice acquisition Matt :)

Agreed with all said - they are a nice comfortable car to drive in standard guise with subtle hints that make them less bargey and more driver oriented (IMHO). If you're ever after any spares of anything, I have a few bits and pieces lying around...some new, some used.

Look after her mate.

Cheers,
Steve

Having a couple of dramas with the auto atm. Randomly seems to go into LHM. Had a look and it aint low on fluid so
i'll jump under it during my time off and have a look at the wiring; maybe lose connection somewhere... other than that Its
been pretty awesome... stock windsor is slow as hell but at least it sounds pretty decent...

no update but did take a couple of pics after giving it a good clean recently...

auto gearbox is playing up, likes to randomly go into LHM at times so planning on
replacing the Inhibitor switch with a spare one from the GT auto box Ive got lying
around, hopefully that sorts it out...

Anyone know where I can source an FBT 6-stacker? Its different to the GT and LTD
ones Ive got lying around... Making do with the radio and my iphone atm...

Other than that have just been enjoying one of ford's finest...

Did your stacker play up or don't you have one?
Mine played up and wouldn't play or eject the cassette.
I pulled it apart and found a plastic gear had wound it's way off the motor rod.... i pushed it back on and fixed!

Now my muffler fell apart internally and blocked up.. Do you know where to get an original cat back or just go a manta off the shelf item?
What have you got on yours?

Cheers
Tim

I had an EL that would randomly go in to LHM after putting it back together from sitting around with a dud engine for a while. Took the main connector out and sprayed it with some CRC then fit it back on with a bit of a jiggle. Never went in to LHM again. Having said that, it isn't hard to run the code test on them I think, so do that?

I've got the stacker but it appears to be missing the internals haha

I'd imagine you can get an off the shelf item but the system on mine is
Currently stock so not 100% sure mate.

Thanks sunny yeah I've heard that from someone else actually been
Meaning to climb under the car and give it a go but keep putting it
Off... Will do so this weekend, that'd be even better than replacing
The inhibitor switch...

Few pics of the interior (although it needs a good clean again)... Mostly
stock except for the addition of the EL GT darker style woodgrain, minus the
rear console surround... all in all its a very nice place to be...

Not really worth its own thread so I'll just post it in here...

Old man and I picked up this EA Fairmont on friday night... Saw it advertised on bookface last week and after a day or two of discussions
with the owner went to pick it up...

Image]

EA Fairmont with approx 70 thousand on the clock.. speedo allegedly stopped 5 months ago at 67 thousand kms... could
have much more but its in pretty impressive condition... interior is immaculate..

I took it for a drive tonight going to dinner; its a great driver... nothing special from factory really but I'm impressed with the]
car and condition overall.. He's not sure what hes going to do with it at this stage probably just drive it once a week or so

couple of pics from the sales ad...
