Hi all. A bit has been going on lately, a split with the mrs left me without transport while my Fairy is still in peices and i cant really get away with driving work van around everywhere. I was talking to Carl one day and he informed me that his mates had a tidy EL they were looking at parting with as they wanted something newer. So i jumped on it, and here it is.

1997 EL GLI Option 20 looks like a detectives car
Its been converted to 5 speeds of fury
Lowered
Rims
Slotted Rotors allround
Decent looking set of extractors
2.5 exhaust
My old crow 549cam and double valve springs from my turbo motor
Intake Pipework and Pod Filter
Generic J3 Chip/Tune
3.45 diff with minispool

Ive seen it run 210rwhp on BYE's dyno in the carine open space park on cruise for a cause, i need to look in to tidying up tune on j3.

Put a set of cheap exhaust tips on
Image

ImageImage
Image
Put a bit of a stereo in and made up a new boot light out of some led strip i had laying around

Image
made up a quick cat pipe, as it was straight pipe before and hanging a little low, was worried about trouble from mr plod.

Image
Image

Put a aftermarket central locking kit through the doors as all the factory motors were disconnected as they kept blowing, wouldnt lock, BCM is playing up on the unlock cycle.

Got a few little things planned for it, have a cheap shifter coming for it off ebay. Loving the 5 speeds of fury and it goes like a rocket, fun car to drive and cruises nice.

Did he take off in second?
Seems to hold that single gear for ages while not hitting limiter.
Good fun daily mate.

Update time.

Chucked a set of EF tail lights on it for now, also have a short shifter im yet to put in, gave the calipers a good clean and painted them green, bleed the brakes and put new PBR hi-temp race fluid in.

Now the fun stuff, Carl hit me up saying No Limits Car Club were down on numbers for a speed event at Barbagallo on Thurs night, so i thought nows a better time than any to get my CAMS L2S license and have a go, ive been thinking/ planning to do it for a while.

Image

So my license rolled up and everything was going ahead, the durans on the back of the EL were pretty bald so i grabbed a cheap set of chinese MAYRUNS 235's, as i cant afford to setup semi slicks yet, and was all about getting out there and having a crack as it was.
Image

Image
Stickered up

Image
Allready to run.

Its safe to say i think im hooked, i had a absolute ball, i had a instructor sit in for my first two rounds on long track to get some pointers, learn the lines of the track, after that they left me alone and was solo for the rest of long and short track, can learn so much from there input though. I found the limit of the chinese tyres pretty fast.

Here is a Gopro compilation of the night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVaBR3NyFPM
Watching the video i can see my improvement throughout the night, and also no where i can be faster, always have are these single pot brakes gonna pull up in the back of your mind haha

I managed a 1.19 on long track and a 1.05 on short which i am wrapped with for my first night out, plus looking at the times being faster than a 911 carreaa 2,HSV maloo, EVO VIII and WRX makes me happy with the old bunky EL haha. My favorite run of the night was at 11.50 in the video which was my first go on short track with two modded EVO's in front of me that had the power on straight but i was keeping them through technical section of track.

So the mod bug has started on this (I really should be finishing turbo), but for next event im looking at putting a set of rollins adaptors and AU upper arms in, im keeping my eye out for cheap whiteline swaybars, semi slicks, I feel the car could benefit from some 3.9-4.11 gears to make better use of third, get it through the rev range harder. I should probaly get this generic J3 tune tidied up, and UPC brake kits on ebay are very tempting haha.

The EL loved it an didnt miss a beat, temp was fine also

I cant wait for the next one:)

So I hit up the motorplex last Wednesday to see what the falcon would do down the quarter.

Im pretty happy with the results, being my first time down there in a manual falcon.

Managed to pedal it to a 14.602 at 93.45mph with a 2.037 60ft, pretty happy with that on $100 mayruns on the rear.

Im looking forward to another track night at barbagallo this month now, planning on getting AU upper arms and adaptors in, and im on the look out for a cheap set of semi slicks, federal RSR's or similar.

Hi all

Im gearing up for another track night at Barbagallo this week so a few more mods have taken place.

Picked up a set of AU upper control arms for the front end
Image

And a set of Rollins adaptors went in
Image
Image
Image

Set of adjustable nolathane camber kits also went in
Image

Image

The castor change is really noticeable when you compare AU and EL arms
Image

Ive wound all the camber out of it for now as it needs a proper alignment and toe adjustment on Weds morning, can all ready feel the difference the castor makes, with the car tracking straight and self centering

Also picked up a set of FTR's for track duties
Image

Have a full set of Bridgestone Potenza RE55S Semi Slicks on them which are getting down, but have to be better than $100 chinese Mayruns haha.
Image

Also just noticed the muffler has a decent crack in it now, so i might swap it out tommorow for the 3inch of turbo EL as im going 4inch on that now.

Old 3inch of turbo went on as the old 2.5 muffler had a big hole in it
Image
Image
Image

Sounds a fair bit angrier

Finally got around to fitting my short shifter
Image

Image

also did a quick fix on the sagging roof lining with some black viynl.

i guessed my camber well, had about 1.8 drivers and 2.0 passenger.

Image

I had WA Suspensions set it all up yesterday 2.5degrees of camber each side, 9.2/8.7 degrees of castor and zero toe so should go well tonight on track hopefully.

Well last night I got down to Barbagallo for my second night on the track.

It was a interesting night to say the least and a little drizzle started making the track sketchy.

First up I had the brain go full retard and I had way to much confidence in these old hard semi slicks, which got me in to a little bit of trouble, should of spent a little more time getting a feel for the slicks and getting the tyre pressures right, but ohwell live and learn, no harm done, basically I came through the S's around the left hander up the hill and hit the small right hander before heading down to the bowl at full noise carrying way to much speed, unsettled the car and looped it, all happened so fast. So I drove it back off, took a deep breath, composed my thoughts, checked tyre pressures and lined up to do it again.

Vid of said incident
http://youtu.be/q94tuCop_yU

So i got a few more laps in, and i was coming out of the bowl and i felt the car dive to the left, so i crawled back to the pits, further investigation found my passenger front slick had been plugged on the inside camber of tyre pretty bloody close to sidewall, and it failed, so i wasnt to happy, chucked spare on decided to drive home, 10mins away, put the good slick from rear on to front left, then put the 17's with the chinese mayruns on back, made it back and after all that, looks like i knocked a second of my previous long track time, which im pretty happy with considering the sketchy track/ weather conditions.

Heres some vids of short track and how slippery it was
http://youtu.be/5Cq4tDHHPTw

http://youtu.be/ql8nmFhRZ3c

All in all it was still a awesome night

Update time

New radiator rolled up
Image
56mm 3 core all aluminium from ebay

Image

Image
bit of mucking around with spacers etc to fit and thermos only just clear ac compressor pulley by 4-5mm

Passenger side axle seal has been leaking for a while so was expecting bent axle from spool
Image

Cheapo press hasn't let me down yet pressed a new bearing and seal on axle from the fairmont turbo.
Image

Entered Antilags Supercruise 3 at Collie Motorplex that was this weekend just gone

Chucked a set of TOYO R1R's on the track rim FTR's for the front and running the bridgestone RE55S on the back and loaded up for the road trip to Collie
Image

Image

Image

Image

Some Fun
http://youtu.be/IcCD6FiR-70

Cold semi slicks haha
http://youtu.be/79dkBd6H9F4

Starting to get the hang of the track
http://youtu.be/tloCLnvGMec

Pretty happy for my first time down at collie, started of around 104 laps, by the end of the day i got it down to 58.5 laps which im stoked with, definantly need more power for more fun in the cruise sessions, which is where the other project comes in.

Car ran well all day, until the last timed session, on full song down main straight on the brakes hard for the first corner and half way through braking i heard a pop and pedal went rock hard with a hard left coming at me fast got the nerves going, managed to wipe of enough speed and make it around corner without bailing it in the dirt. Drove it back to the pits and could hear it hissing under dash so looks like the brake booster diphragms gone. Packed up and babyied it back to perth with no vacumn assit on brakes. Ive got a AU booster sitting in shed, so il adapt that to fit.

Had a epic weekend, so much fun, cant wait for the next one.
