Hi all had this daily a while now on gas got it from my mate fairmont4me now it belongs to me haha! about 2 weeks ago i was on the way to the airport and my motor decides to shit the big end bearings.. made some crazy noises so decided it needed a new motor and after having a look at misks thread and also au barra on ford forums i thought i think it needs a bf motor so thats what it got
I run the bf motor off the factory EF ecu (only seen au controlled ba/bf motor conversions??) picked up some extractors for it aswell also had a morestall laying around so decided to put that in with a slighty fresher auto then was in it
runs sweet so smooth on idle couldnt tell what the ol girls got lurking beneath the bonnet just the way i like it

so pics as follows
The car... changed a few things after i got it cleaned it up slighty and this is how she sits
Image

The new dohc motor all installed (a very tight fit with the auto box on installed all at once)

Nicely done, always thought the EF ECU would be the simplest option.
batch fired and only need a crank sensor.

Sweet!

Hope is doesn't backfire, although if it does orangeute338 can give you advice on rods.

icachn, that was the plan should make a good na dragger hopefully

EFFalcon, Yeah i chucked it in hopeing it would work as the sync sensor appears to be 180 hall effect type but as far as i could see it's a EDIS system so should still work sweet is now hooked up to the cam phaser (have to check wiring as i dont have a bf diagram with colour codes) does sound slighty rough on petrol but the injectors are old au ones ive had for ages just sitting in my bench and there is next to no fuel so idles rough on petrol still working on that one - doesnt sound like any bf falcon ive heard though win

apoc, only just completed the conversion so i couldnt say

Commando, ive got the intake to be gas back firing freindly (years of gas and a fair few back fire lol just blows the intake pipe out of the airbox
also i think he was running nos so cycl pressure would be up alot higher then just a lpg backfire

I think the DOHC head doesn't allow as much of a backfire event to go back out through intake - more chance of busting rods.

Quote from PoweredByCNG on Fordmods (I was originally looking for a tech article on this, this opinion post was all I could find after a brief search):

http://www.fordmods.com/ford-lpg-hydrog ... 56-15.html

I believe the DOHC engines have different characteristics that make them more susceptible to conrod damage compared to the SOHC engines. Even Ford themselves have warned of this issue and have fitted strengthened conrods to DOHC E-gas engines.

So your perfected intake might save the airbox from blowing up, but might not save the rods.

I guess we will see haha in the ford microcat the lpg rods are alot cheaper then a std rod so would suggest there made cheaper so less strength?? lpg rods are not the same as the turbo rods either but doesnt really worry me as motors are cheap and the lickiness of it happening about nil/non

the rod discussion has happened before, the LPG rods are the same as the Typhoon ones, but with a different connecting pin.

theres no reason you can't run LPG anyway, there is a shit ton of BA+ on LPG without factory motors.

good job though man, the EF ECU will be fine as lone as it gets A trigger at TDC once for every 2 revolutions.

the gas will make it much easier though.
if i didn't already have my gas injection gear i'd be going with gas research for simplicity.

this will be the next best mod i reckon, as good as a big cam with the best engine i've ever had an in an e-series!

Was there much drama with bonnet and sump clearance?

It's not a straight swap. Pretty sure the most common thing is notching out and reinforcing the k frame for the alloy sump. Maybe massage some of the bonnet reinforcement.
