As I said in the introduction thread, I'll be chasing an EB Fairmont Ghia five-oh sometime in the not too distant future. But for now here is my play toy/project that's been off the road since July last year. Here are the specs and some pictures of it from when it was on the road last.

Car: MK2 Escort RS2000 replica
Colour: Track Red
Body Type: Sedan

Engine: 2.1L Pinto
60thou bore
ACL Flat top pistons
Decked head
Port and polish
Standard valves (for now)
Crow Cam - 280/290 duration, .448" valve lift
Mallory Hyfire 6 electronic ignition
Type 9 5 speed g/box
Twin 40mm sidedraught Dell'orto carburettors
2.5" exhaust, and soon to be 4 into 1 extractors.

Suspension:
Front - RS struts with superlows and Noltec camber/castor adjustable tops, 24mm Whiteline swaybar and whiteline strut brace (strut tops and strut brace aren't in the pictures as they weren't on at the time of taking the photo's, will be on when the car is back on the road)
Rear - Panel van 4-leaf that will be set up with tramp rods when it's on the road again

Brakes: Slotted and ventilated rotors up front and standard drums down the back (will eventually be a disc brake rear end)

Wheels: 13x7 Superlites.

That's it for now.

Thanks guys! It's taken almost 4 years for it to get to where it is today, but it's worth every cent (however many that may be). I just can't wait to get it finished, again haha.

Thanks again for the nice comments Ladies and/or Gents.

Here are some new bits and pieces that will be finding their way onto the car while it's off the road.

Tramp rods.
Image

24mm Whiteline Swaybar (jee whiz they take forever to deliver shit!)
Image

RS Struts with Noltec adjustable strut tops
Image

Image

And here's just a few pictures of what's been done in the last few weeks.

Started pulling shit apart - Always good fun!
Image

Let the sanding begin, oh joy! Not.
Image

Started smoothing the visible parts of the engine bay, and getting rid of some dents in the heater bubble and all that sort of thing.
Image

Image

Depending on the weather, next weekend the engine bay should have some paint.

A few other little bits and pieces too while I'm at it..

Dual throttle cable set up.
Image

Shiny stuff!
Image

Ignition unit - It has launch control  and two different presets for rev limiter.
Image

Retrimmed and rebolstered RS Scheels. Very comfy. (Just clearing things up, that's not my bed in the right hand corner haha, it's just some new furniture under a cover waiting to be used!)
Image

Nicely cracked front crank pulley
Image

I think that's all for now.

Very nice! I've always wanted a Mk2 Escort! My nanna used to have a mint Mk2 Ghia 2-door and I just wish I was old enough to drive when she got rid of it. That car was probably what got me so interested in them. Your one looks mint! Awesome stuff!

Very funny Kieren haha.

Thanks for the nice comments. Next weekend the motor will be painted black and put together so that final assembly in the front half of the car can begin. Then all that will be left to sort out is the seat mounts and wiring...Lucas electrics in British cars can suck my balls.

Quick update... motor goes back in tomorrow, and it will be running by Thursday next week, no two ways about it. I hope.

So if all goes to plan I might be able to have a drive of it by next weekend. Can't wait to drive it, it's been over a year now since the last time it ran.

Motor in, finally. Custom rocker cover is completely bitching, I love it (needs a good polish though).

Image

Dummy fit the carbies and manifold just to see what they look like.

Image

On course to have it running by Thursday if I can get to the car after work!

Nice car, I have a soft spot for Mk2s, mum had a pair of yellow mk2s back between the early '80s and '99. I only remember the second one, it had aftermarket AC which caused the car to break down. We traded it in for a Camry.

Got the interior mostly together and the front end is all together now, and it fought me the entire way, bastard car. If all goes well I'll be driving it this time next week. Just have a few more bugs to work out and finish up the under dash wiring. Might have to come out to Aspley and meet more of the QLDers in a few weeks.

As of today it's back on the road, it runs well, just needs a dyno tune and it'll be sweet.

On Sunday I got a bit ambicious and busted the diff. Actually I shattered it, over 20 small pieces of pinion, I was impressed.

Image

So yesterday afternoon I bought a locker with 3.54 gears (I desperately wanted 4.11's, but I can always change the gears at another stage), and later that evening I was happily skipping around corners.

This will be the last update for the car until after March next year, I'm going overseas for 3 months to play in a band on a cruise ship in the Caribbean on Saturday and will come back with full pockets (theoretically), so there should be a fair few updates shortly after.
