EL Ghia - Factory Spec with a touch of spice - Now SOLD

Hi All,

I thought I might post my ride up.

Bought it stock as a rock back in late November after selling my EB2 Fairmont.

On Christmas day heading to my wife's parents place from my parents at about 2am on the back streets i hit a medium sized roo at 80k's. So glad we were in the EL and not the R34 skyline as the car would have ended up off the road for sure and maybe written off. The EL took a hard hit but only resulted in a slightly cracked grill and front bar but the complete front end covered in blood that even with the high beams on couldnt see anything (lucky it also went under the car and not over). Found out too a few days later the radiator recieved a slight puncher too so replaced it at that point with a copper core radiator.
Within the past few months I have dual fueled it, lowered all round with super low Lovells (was going to put ultras in the back but thought against it with the gas tank, towing and being a daily) and Monroe shocks, put a 2.5inch cat back exhaust and twin dump tips as well a few things here and there to clean it up and fix the bugs. After converting to gas i had many issues for about a month as the place didnt do a very good job and would highly recommend no one go there....but the fellows at Keith Linell tuning in dandenong got it running better then it ever was even on petrol. When getting this all done i also thought i might rebuild the tickford head with stainless valves to suit the gas and a new gasket.

Sorry about the poor pics but ill get good ones soon:

near future plans:

- Got some ROH 17's to throw on
- Paint calipers blue
- Got some clear rear tail lights
- Clear side indicators
- Tint the windows
- Get air con working better
- do the AUX plug mod on fordmods so i can use a mp3 player and keep the stock unit
- throw in a sub and amp
- mod grill and front bar after roo hit.

will keep you posted as I go.

cheers

UPDATE:

well been driving around the past week with no front bar or grill. Dropped them both off for repairs and hopefully will come back with some tiny mods.

Hoping todo the following soon:

- remove plastic grills from grill and replace with mesh and fix grill (after kangaroo hit)
- fix front bar and mod side pockets for aftermarket driving lights and mesh centre of bar
- fit tickford front lip
- BA fairlane ghia badge on bonnet
- respray bonnet and give the car a good buff up
- go around and touch everything up

After that hopefully:
- Ultra low rears
- Clear side indicators or tinting them
- tint windows

will post up new pics once done

well it gives out more of a chrome class look like the fairlane but still keeping it a fairmont.

i MAY paint the back ground black so the chrome mesh stands out a little more.

Love the EL!

I say paint the section of the bonnet behind the grille black. I did it with my EF grille, and it looked heaps better.
Are you going to go with Fairlane cornering lamps or the fairmont covers?

R34 is fkn nice too!

thanks mate.

the R34 has just had tune from Frank and the boys at F & T in narre (another hook-up by Kev) and its putting out at 7psi 198rwkws and at 12psi hit 220rwkws but need a software upgrade on the greddy e-management as it ran way too rich. after assessment the conclusion the is the car can run 14-15psi with the current setup but the management is the let down :-(

but im happy as is.....your limited on what can be done anyways on the road...and got no time or money to hit the strip much these days either.

Nice 34 mate! Why bother owning an EL when you've got the 34?

Well....the story is the EL was a replacement till my 4wd comes back on the road.

the EL does so much more for us then the R34. Due to the fuel, insurance excess costs, cant go park it everywhere and anywhere we dont run it too much. we run it a once a week minimum and for all cruises, shows, etc.

once i get the 4wd back we may evaluate our situation again and maybe get sell the EL and keep the R34 or vice versa...maybe even sell both and get something like a BA\BF xr6 turbo or if i can a fairmont ghia and put the turbo motor in it and put the left over money on the home loan. Not sure yet....still got time to think about it. House is priority for the moment.

here is a pic of my 4wd...currently getting a 1uzfe put in. this has my YBHVE4 plates on it:

i know its not everyones cup of tea and most ppl would ask why bother but i get high enjoyment and relaxation hitting the mud tracks....no cops and the fresh air really is something that grows on most after one offroad trip. Its also all opposite to the cars which also equals to less headaches with the law and more places to go and more things it can be used for. but thats my taste anyways these days :-)

travs ea-xr6 wrote:sits really nice at the back now, what springs and shocks you got in the back. ;)

its got kings ultra low rear springs with monroe standard height stocks with Kev's Performance custom shock tops. The coils on the springs are thicker then normal i am to believe and doesnt sag with the gas tank and towing.

Are you the guy I sold the springs to? If you are, no offence but you looked way too young to have a wife! Never would've guessed that.

Back on topic, nice rides. The R34 looks sweet, just remove all the decals and shit. I love the red walls. Fourby looks sick too and heaps of fun. Mont looks pretty good, but I reckon the Mont wheels looked trick.

LOL...yeah i bought you Lovell springs...when i read the first few words of what u said i was like WTF till i read the rest. Yeah I get that alot. Im 25 and been with my wife for over 6 years and married for about 9months.

The R34 might stay with the decals for now. im getting mixed comments. some say it looks too race like now but some say it finishes it off because it was too plain before. I'm going to advertise it soon anyways and see if it sells for a price im happy with or else ill finish the interior and engine work off.

Im just waiting to get the 4runner back before doing anything.

Wow 25 never would've guessed that :)

What sort of ballpark figure are you looking at for the 34?

The 4runner will be sick with the transplant.

LOL....get that too. CROWN still ask for ID when I walk in.

Well i want something over $25k. I'll put it up for high 20's but be negotible on price depending if the person wants todo there own RWC, interstate, etc.

fingers crossed the 4by will come out as good as hoping. if so i'll be wrapped. been off the road for about 13-14months now :-(

The 4wd will be crazy with the 1UZ in it!

If your having issues with tuning the emanage contact Cihan at http://www.etuner.com.au

The e-manage should not be restricting you at 14-15psi, a lot of the guys with 1JZ's run good tunes up to 300rwkw with the basic emanage blue. Even more if its an ultimate.

They are also developing a turbo kit for the 1UZ ;)
