Useless Poll #6: Why do you drive a Ford?

Postby Bipolar » October 24th, 2008, 1:13 pm

Taken from this thread, so as not to take it off topic.

For me it's in the blood. My Mum, her brother and sister and their Dad all love Falcons, plus my Dad's owned a couple of them. Plus growing up watching Bathurst. But part of it is also driving something made here, especially now that just about everything is made overseas or in China. I'd rather be proud of driving something my country's produced and buy parts (new or used) from here and keep the money in Oz.

Other than that I like the feeling of being in control of something with a fair bit of power (compared to a majority of the average new / high volume selling cars), and something with space for people, stuff, and collisions (I sometimes wince when I see someone driving crazy in a tiny buzzbox). Ease of working on, cheap parts and exhaust note are also important to me (I think my I6 exhaust sounds bloody good <1500 and >4500rpm).

I found that they are easy to work on when it comes to mods, good for learning as most stuff is straight forward, and in general a good first car for young people, because parts are cheap.

Multiple reasons for myself, mind you at the moment my mindset is purely focused on the daily. Cheap to buy, cheap to run (gas), cheap parts, C A V E R N O U S.

I've always been a Ford fan. Dad's first car was an XA GT coupe so that could be a big factor and our family cars have always been Falcons (except for the utes). When I was growing up, we had an XF manual S-pack wagon and in 93' they upgraded to an EBII 5 speed wagon which they still own. I was in about year 7 when I started to take more of an interest. With the EA, there's certainly no regrets. At times it's given me a bit of grief but overall it hasn't been a bad car.

E series falcons are good because they cost $1000 for a good one.

One day I will buy another one as an impulse buy for cheap, have a grand plan to make it super awesome, change my mind and sell it again for more within 4 months.

Or Ill buy a V8 commodore.

First Bathurst I watched in full was 92, so I became a big DJ fan. Then in 93 we went to Mallala for the ATCC round, met Dick Johnson and he had Tru-Blu on display. Our family car at the time was an XD, so I was hooked.
Just after that my dads mate bought an EA Spack 5spd (for 12k lol), and I thought that was the shiz, especially when it would drop his cousins VN Calais 5L all the time.

My first car was a pretty mint, although slow XE, partly because we had spares and because I'd already learnt a bit about XD-XFs from the families cars. Also in the late 90s when EVERYONE loved HRT/Holden and only true Ford supporters would wear a Ford shirt in public, I had the only Falcon in the school carpark. Since then I've just kept buying Falcons because I know the bad points about them, and have a fair idea on how to fix them. I think about buying about a million different cars each day, but when I compare what Falcon that money would buy, the Falcon seems to almost always come out on top.

Plus I've always figured if a cars biggest downfall is breaking $10 door handles (XD-XF) then it really can't be that bad a car!

Its a bit of "in the blood", and also just love them. Id rather push my Ford then drive a Holden sorta thing.
Always thought Ford have had it over Holden in the looks, performance, and cumfort.
That and the fact that alot of Holden drivers are sick bro muzza's with lacka bands tied around the back of their baseball cap, and im not 1 of those.

Forgot about Dick's cars. Saw the XE at the Ekka (Brisbane Exhibition) in '87 and remember just staring. Back then it looked like they actually trailered in the cars instead of having a street mockup. I also remember riding in my uncle's brand new EA Ghia in '90 and being amazed at how luxurious it looked and felt. A couple of years later he was getting around in a BMW 316 and did nothing but bitch about it.

FORDS CANE

and there cheaper then their holden equivalent.

my best example is i bought a 91 eb ghia 5 litre with a roof and mags (worked motor) cost me 4500 on the road with a minor stereo

to purchase that in a cailais vn/vp ? with a worked 5 litre is like a 5-9 grand car.

this was nearly 2 years ago.
70mm t/b and maf, extractors and exhaust, 2500 stall, stage 2 shift kit, ultra lows, pioneer/clarion stereo.

soon to be 347...

I'm coming to like the DJR EBs now. I've got a wheels mag from October '92 and it has a comparison between the EB Supercar and the old Tru Blu Falcon. Funnily enough the EB has EA side mirrors! XD looks beter still though.
