EB Ghia's ghia. Written off. MODS PLEASE LOCK THREAD

Postby EB_Ghia » November 16th, 2008, 10:24 am

ok.. ive updated cars lol. after hitting the 2nd roo last week with the ea..
i looked at the whole car and added up the repairs and other things i wanted to do to the ea and figured it was far cheaper and saner to just get another shell and start over.
rego is due too..
bit of a pity really but chassis damage kinda ruins the party. it only has a few days of rego left..
exterior looked fine but shifted the k frame back. and i somehow bent the top watts link bar?

so i got a eb Fairmont Ghia.
its has
full leather interior,
cruise control ,
elec windows, all of them work well. r\h rear sticks slightly at the bottom
tinted windows,
premo sound, even the stacker works a treat. missing sub atm
climate control,
3.73 working lsd,
abs. it seems to be working
engine doesnt seem to leak oil,
237ish k's on the clock,
towbar
duel fuel..
not bad for what i paid for it
only problem ive found is that the elec antenna doesnt go up or down, so the antenna cable\ rope is obviously broken

oh its cardinal red. im so going to have fun keeping this clean lol

but the mod list is..
extractors off the ea
manual conversion (auto has to die first)
lowering probably xr6 height
and some better mags.
thermo fans.. off ea

when did eb's start to have smartlock? cbf'd looking under the dash yet

but enough of me talking tho.. pics shortly

thanks bentls.
i made the decision if i had to get another car it would be a ghia of some sort.
i was looking for a ltd but decided not to, getting lights and panels wouldnt be as easy if i stuffed one..

Malakai wrote:Not bad at all. What did you pay for it?

it is good.. i'll be making it better when i cbf'd converting it to manual after the auto starts to play up.

but a few noob questions..
does anyone know when smartlock was introduced? also the month it was factory fitted?

also how do i tell if mines a series 1 or 2 eb?

i havent yet gotten a gregories that covers the eb

It's a series 2. Series 2 had the 4.0 litre. Series 1 still had the 3.9. The EBII also got the lower wiper cowling (series 1 was same as EA), gloss black doorhandles (instead of matt black), 2-tone dash, 6" front speakers (instead of 4"), lighter interior colours, Ghia got the sports cluster (EB1 Ghia had the digi-dash), and black buttoned climate/trip computer (instead of grey on EA-EB1)

ah ok.. series 2 it must be.
i hate the digi dashes. the one in the xf shits me.

where would the smartlock module be??
ive looked under the dash and found a green module next to the radio. but i dont have a smartlock light on the dash cluster.
i have had the cluster out to see if it was just blown globes.. but the smartlock one doesnt exist.
so i could be safe to say mine doesnt have smartlock then?

Early EBIIs didn't get smartlock. It was a running change on them. The green module next to the radio will be the BEM (controls all the electrics).

The digi-dashes are love or hate. E-series ones are different to XF ones in that it's not completely digital. Only the speedo and odometer are digital. The rest is analog. Personally I love it.

I think it was late September/ early October 1992 when the Smartlock was introduced into the EB2's.

Bloody good pickup mate, the leather interiors alone on those go for a good $500 in great condition. I wanted a EA-ED Ghia ever since I first got my licence but I haven't stumbled upon a good deal.

cool. i'll be grabbing another bem then just in case mine dies.
no smartlock sounds good to me then.
makes the manual conversion way easier. i'll probably use the ea computer to stop any chances of lhm kicking in

i like the ea ones a little. i just don't like how you cant see the speedo when the sun is behind you. the analogue ones you still can.
but it comes down to personal preference really

Bloody good pickup mate,

mines august 92 so mine must be one of the last eb2's that has no smartlock.

thanks mate. good luck on finding a shell so you can rebuild your xr6

also another noob question?
how do i check the base timing now? i know i have to bridge 2 pins in the white plug under the dash.
but dunno which ones.

got the 1st roady done today...
wasnt as bad as i thought i was going to get.

rectify windsreen washers. (i knew about it, snapped t peice)
rectify chipped windscreen (might be a better idea to get a new one)
replace both rear typres (lol, testing the lsd was fun though)
clean accumulated oil... (wtf its weeping at the front at the d in the rockercover gasket, the one bullshit item on the list)
replace lh and rh steering rack boots
replace lh and rh lower balljoint boots (tops look like they are needing to be done soon so i'll do them now aswell)

with the oil leak i'll clean the bay just before they see it again... or i could put a new gasket on and do a cam swap at the same time hehehe

the biggest pita is the windscreen.. im just going to replace it.
i have the tyres here, just arent on rims yet. so ive just got to get the tyres put on the ghia mags.
and the rest is probably going to cost 50?
so it isnt that much.

also them sooking about a weeping rockercover gasket? i'll take the car to the car wash before i represent it to them...
got to find out if my 1673 will work ok with the 4spd till i cbf'd converting it to a manual
