My wagon

Postby PSI250 » January 23rd, 2008, 8:34 pm

Well some of you know me, most wouldn;t, met a couple of you when my turbo'd XE was on the road, some others when i was shotgun in Robs Barge.

Since my XE has been of the road for a fair while and the camry daily i had sucked balls i started searching for a suitable replacement. Had to be EFI, 1990+ and either a wagon or have fold down rear seats. This lead me down the E series path....
Couldn;t find any decent ones i liked, then others were either sold or i got screwed around.

Then his came through work as a trade in and was in excellent nick and a banger price so i snapped it up straight away.
ED Falcon wagon 4.0L
LSD
dual fuel
240xxxkm
Grandpa owner even had one of those grandpa visors on the front
FULL service history, perfect history since new, serviced every 10,000, reco auto, reco head, etc,

This was the first day i bought it home, i removed the front visor before i even drove it home!
Image

Next was tint which is mandatory on wagons i reckon! driving around with all that glass and no tint annoyed me, plus i didn;t want people seeing whats in the back etc. 14"s + monster truck ride height :(
Image

Next thing to annoy me was those damn standard 14" hubcaps and standard ride height.
I picked up some steelies, sprayed them silver, slotted some 2" lowering blocks in the back and removed the mudflaps-
Image
Image

Drove round like that for a couple of months. got bored of the ceptors, plus i didn;t really see anyone with bigger rims on the wagons. so in preperation for some decent sized rims i put some dobinson superlows in the front, took the 2" lowering blocks out of the rear and put in some king superlow leaf springs. This made it sit exactly the same height as the 2" lowering blocks , i thought it would have gone a bit lower, ah well. Bought some 19s for it. front sat good but didn;t like the rear as it was still too high.
so jammed some 1.5" lowering blocks in there as well. This bought it down to and ok height i guess.
With the gas under the rear i dont really wanna go any lower, the gas tank guard scapes alot now.

so this is it now with the GTP 19s and the chocko spec towing company sticker on it! but hey its my mates business so i;m allowed to!!

That's sweet! We need more decent E-Series wagons like yours. Having said that, mine's destined to remain a daily slapper though.

Sadly, my ride height will remain, if not heighten to XG/H Outback/Longreach stylez. I go camping & fully load the car & drive up a lot of dirt tracks that RAV4/rwd Territory owners think they're tuff for taking on.

Thanks for the offer on the blocks/kit though :D

^^^ damn right there (when your LPG system isn't f**king up).

The GOR cruise only cost me $70 to get there & back (800kms), would've been cheaper if gas prices weren't through the roof...

Plus you can sleep in them (with ease compared to a sedan) :D If I was a hobo, I'd get an EA wagon as a "house", stuff paying rent/mortgage. Spare tyre well can double as a bath and somewhere to do the dishes. Engine bay = kitchen/heating. Where can you go wrong!

nah its staying stock engine wise, its just a daily hack, i've got no points on my licence plus i had all my fun in the XE when it was boosted.

THanks man!
The SL leafs in the back lowered it exactly 2" and made it ride fairly nice, king said it would be about 30% stiffer as they have an extra leaf in the pack and i did notice it didn;t float as much as the std springs. Its also now abit lower then when when you saw it.
I;ve gotta cut my bumpstops a bit as at rest its only just off them and driving it even the smallest bump/dip in the rd bottoms it out and it bounces all over the place. Also i haven;t had anything in the back yet so cant comment on what the leafs do under load, but being stiffer they should be alright.

How many $$$ were the SL leafs if you don't mind me asking? Do they do SSL in the leafs?

I got the leafs in the ute reset, and they aren't quite low enough and worse still they squeak a bit and its driving me up the fcuking wall, so new leafs might be the go I reckon.

Did you just get them thru Repco/Bursons/etc?

$350 trade a pair through bursons, and they had to order them in from king in qld. unsure of RRP.

nah they do a low and a super low, although as mentioned i thought the super lows would have gone lower then 2"

you could just slot some 1" lowering blocks in there to get it a bit lower, but that wouldn;t fix your squeaks.

may be knocking up an old thread, but thats a shithot wagon man.

im a tad lost though, which lowering blocks do you have in the back at the moment? 1, 1.5 or 2's? 2" blocks are lower than 1" or the other way around? I

ve got an EF wagon and im keen on lowering it, but i have stuff in the back occasionally (plus a gas tank udnerneath) and i dont want the car assing out every time i go into a driveway with a guitar amp in the back.

thanks man,

in the early pics with the ceptors i had 2" lowering blocks in the back with standard height leaf springs and standard springs in the front.

in the pics with the 19s it has superlow dobinsons in the front and in the back it has king super low replacement leaf springs ( about 2" - 2.5" lower) and 1.5" lowering blocks. This gives it a nice low stance plus a bit of rake.
Only bad thing is this combo makes it sit pretty much on the bump stops, theres a few MM between. i also have a gas tank under the back and the gas tank guard will hit on pretty much any driveway unless i crawl up at an angle. Thats with nothing in the back and just me driving, with my ceptors on and low profile tyres its worse ;)
So probably not what your after.

I reckon just put some 2" lowering blocks in yours with std leafs and see how it is, lowering blocks are cheap (ebay or try bursons for trade) and its easy enough to do at home.

hope this helps.

also on a side note, now looking for a low K AU motor (<150,000km) so if anyone has any contacts / knows anyone selling etc let us know
-Cal.

well, i bought another car so that put plans i had to boost the wagon off for a bit. i'm not too fussed though. ATM the only performance mod it looks like it will see will be an AU motor as the one in it is pretty tired...

I got bored of the 19s, they started looking too small to me, can't find any 20s i liked so decided to go whitewalls to make them look bigger. At first i was unsure of what they were going to look like but i reckon they suit the car perfectly.

2" blocks will make it site a bit higher then superlows i'd say, hard to tell. the pics up there ^^ with the ceptors are with std fronts and 2" blocks in the back.
i'm still running std shocks in mine, really needs shorter ones but ahh well.

i know its pov spec but i reckon it needs the grey moulds to break it up a bit. if it was any other colour id colour-code them i reckon.
yeah thats whats stopped me getting the white venetians, the dark tint, if it had no tint i'd be all over them, but with the tint it may look weird.

YBHVE4 wrote:have you thought of maybe clear indicators or tinting them?

i've always been a fan of orange indicators for some unknown reason, i think they help with breaking up the white.

wagon is now dead, well not totally, but dead to me...

Ended up getting a company car through work and that same week the wagon popped a headgasket.

i CBF fixing it, its only an E series, plus its just about out of reg so to me its not worth spending reg + gasket and most importantly my time fixing it.

Anyone be interested in it before it goes to the scrapheap?
Buy it, fix the headgasket, and you;d have yourself an ok wagon.

Good points are: king superlow leafs, 1.5" lowering blocks, tint, dobinson superlow coils, adjustable uppper control arms. cleans up ok with a good wash. auto was serviced last month with reciepts. gas stuff is still indate.

19s are no longer on car.

PM me if by some miracle your searching for an e series goon with a blown headgasket!

PM sent. Going to advertise it soon, just have to wash it and take some pics.

*edit* pretty much looks like this now, except with a heap of coolant under it!:

ok so i bought this car a few months ago, doesnt look a hole lot different than the photo above except for a little higher off the ground ef/el taillights and clear front indicators. (still need clear repeaters)

Picked up standard ba turbo gear for pretty cheap so it looks like ill have to slap that on soonish 6-12months, looking at going straight gas trying to keep things reasonably legit as it will be a daily driver shortly once i sell the bf. also will be putting in an ef/el motor in along with ef/el dash centre console door trims etc and el ecu j3 etc.
