Im so confused over what is happening over this.
Does anyone actually know what is happening ,
Ive heard on tv that it will go throught
and radio has said it will not .

Last I heard was it was being challenged in court. Apparently the government do not have the legal right to gift people $900.

according to the ATO's website its going to start on the 6th of April. Couldn't come sooner I really need the cash.

I have it on good authority that they plan on reversing the structure of it, so people earning over 90k will get the $900.
Good idea I reckon, they are the ones stimulating the economy with their higher pay, all the slack kunts earning under 50 should be working harder.

itl go through, the legal challenge is bollocks and they know it, but it has to be thrown out properly before everyone gets paid.

the way it was setup when someone first talked of challenging the idea is that the people issueing the cash have to be told t go ahead or not by a certain date (which i assume is the 6th of april), if nothing has been passed or any solid answer by that date the payments will go ahead

but at the end of the day, as soon as the plan was made public there has been confusion and rumours!
ive got my money planned spent, but only on shit i was planning to save for anyway, so if it doesnt come, no skin off my nose!
but if it does then its alll good, i just hope once the honeymoon period wears off we're not left worse for wear

i heard it was dues on the 6th. they have already given out one batch of it for the family benefit part i dont see how they could give that out and then not give out the second and third set to other sections.

Cause the other ones are through centrelink to people already recieving benefits afaik, this ones through the ATO, and it's what the guy is arguing, that the ATO shouldn't be gifting money due to the way a law is written or some shit.

Ok but if the money is due to be recieved on the 6th wouldnt you think that all the cheques would have already been printed .
And therefor have to be sent out on a certain date. eg tommorrow

well the other day they said the place printing the cheques needed to know by thursday if they needed to stop printing or not.

yeh but if u requested a cheque on ur previous tax return they wont have a bank account record for you, it will come in the form of whatever your last tax return came in.

If you have nothing better to do you can follow it on the high court website www.hcourt.gov.au transcripts are avaliable. Look for Pape v the tax man.

Or just wait til about midday tommrow when the decision should be published.

yeh supposedly long as you done a tax return last year you are eligible even if u earnt $100 for the year (got fired on your first day etc)
long as you got a group certificate and lodged a tax return

And whats the go? Im a bit confused, havnt been following the whole $900 handout since I heard of it... does it just come automatically to those who filed a tax return last year or do we have to apply somehow?

No application needed.
ITs done through the australian tax office(ato)
So they know whether u have done your tax or not

Just saw on the News the court has found that the government has the right to give out the cash bonuses so it will be going ahead

here is the calculator to see if you are eligable you will need your 07/08 notice of assessment,

No. Because you would have received all the tax you paid for the $100 back. If you earn $6k or less, theoretically you should receive all the tax you paid back. Anyway, I think you need to have earnt >$17k to be eligible.

If you go to the ATO website and have your Notice of Assessment from last financial year, you can find out if you're eligible.
