The AU has much stronger bottom end, designed for higher rpm ....
Take rocker cover off and check that its rather clean before buying..
Even fitting std AU in E series gives more performance and economy..
Fit Std A.U and change final drive to 3.45 and you'll have an XR6 in lighter body..
Even easier if you fit A.U motor and box..

you make some good points but having "clean enough to eat off" rocker gear means fvck all. ive destroyed 2 wrecker AU motors with claimed "less than 150k" use both with impeccable rocker gear. Also with probably no more 200-250hp

(not in response to EBTO4z)
also replacing motors fucking sucks. You can build a decent bottom end for under $2500. I bought acl race pistons - rods shotpeened. rotating assembly balanced and assembled. Its not a forged setup but tough enough to warrant swapping several stockers when they go boom. plus 400rwhp would be fine with dialing beatings in my bottom end. When you think if you pay 300-400 for each wrecker motor. 2 of them plus coolant oils. time. effort. get fucked
Its a stack of f*ck shit, on top of itself niggaaaaaa

The same can happen to re-built motors too !!
I rebuilt our ED XR6 with ACL race series kit for $1100 rotating assembly, ballanced, bored etc..
It's still runing strong.. With race series pistons in XR motors ?? They tend to have way too much compression !!

The wrecker we buy off lets us see the engine in car etc..Taking off rocker cover lets you see if oil changes have been done .. Some engines have carbon build up in there.. Also a converted turbo engine with a few klrs on it has about the right internal clearances for forced inducton !! So a family car with under 100k and serviced well is o/k..
So far we have had no issues.. But I must say be carefull to have a GOOD tune when adding a turbo..
AU's have quite high compression for turbo engines when tune is not right for forced induction..
One thing in my favour is my age .. They don't stuff me around as much as younger guys...
If staying N/A ?? The AU has all the power you need with heaps of throttle responce compared to older motors..

What have you done to piss the cops off? the mods in your sig suggest the car is next to stock?

For the record i was blind and pulled out of my mates as the cops did. As i went past he stared me down and started breaking so i punched it up and around this hill just hammering it stupily with 3 people with me and went down a few roads with my lights off and the dumb prick did like warp factory 7 million down past a road i went up. My mates from i left from said he came down and did this huge burnout as he realised he was chasing the wrong car and flew back up the hill but i stowed away in a blokes yard lol.
Believe it or not i know all use guys and unbelievers in these things but cops are dumb. Like me i supose

your a fuckstick. that is all.

cini, just find a turbo'd E-Series already done. 160rwkw n/a is shit trust me thats why ive got.

160RWKW in a EB/ED versus a BA is a totally different feel.
BA's are soo doughy but a strong SOHC 4 litre in an EB feels ten times quicker. Its probably mainly due to the noise/rattles/handling.

AU motors are sh|t for boost, get an EF or EL motor they are much smoother to rev compared to the older 3.9l and 4l motors, still freshen up the bottom end though. Spend some cash (about $1000 or so) on the head then add a cam to suite. It will love the boost long time.

In all honesty though I would recommend buying an already turbo car... as long as it isn't an E-series.

Maybe save some more cash and get a BA-BF XR6T instead.

Cini,

Go to the wreckers get a EB-EL engine, do a compression test making sure there is consistence, put the shit in and boost it. **** rebuilding it, it's not worth it. Too many people get engines rebuilt and 2 months later completely fucked and worse yet the "engine builders" who claim they "build race engines " can't even build something stronger then standard.
