Stop Queensland's fuel price going up nearly 10cpl in July

Postby Bipolar » June 5th, 2009, 1:44 pm

Petition

Basically the cost of fuel will go up by 9.2cpl and rego will also go up. Rego for a 6 will be well over $700pa.

RACQ website wrote:Stop the fuel tax petition
The State Government plans to scrap Queensland’s 8.35 cents a litre fuel subsidy from July 1 – despite specific assurances to the RACQ and the broader community ahead of the March election that the subsidy would be retained.

Combined with increases in vehicle registration of 17 to 22 percent from July 1, this extra fuel tax will cost most Queensland families and businesses several hundred dollars a year, while also pushing up the prices of other goods and services.

With GST, it will add 9.2 cents a litre to petrol and diesel and will hit families in the outer suburbs and regional areas hardest, as people in these areas have less access to public transport and, often, longer distances to travel.

Major industry groups have joined RACQ in rejecting any suggestion of scrapping the fuel subsidy. These include the Queensland Trucking Association, the Motor Trades Association of Queensland, AgForce, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland and Marine Queensland.

They support RACQ’s view that making fuel more expensive through higher taxes will leave Queensland families and businesses with less money to spend on other goods and services, which will rise in price because of higher transport costs. The industry groups also fear job losses in their respective sectors.

A statewide survey of RACQ late last year showed only nine percent of members opposed the fuel subsidy's retention.

While there have been criticisms that the full fuel subsidy is not always passed on to motorists, the bottom line in abandoning it would be Queenslanders paying an extra 8.35 cents a litre in fuel excise, plus an extra 0.835 cents a litre in GST.

Complete this e-petition now to send a clear message to Premier Anna Bligh that Queenslanders will not accept withdrawal of the fuel subsidy.

There's a poll on The Courier-Mail's website too. There's 777 comments on one of their stories about it so far.

Sounds a bit like NSW.

You pay rego, then an insurance company for complusary third party to cover if you run over someone, or get injured in a car accident (and this can vary depending on age, vehicle etc) then you have to get normal insurance, either 3rd party or full comp.

So $300 ish for rego and $500 for CTP for under 25s, or more if you had an accident, or your cars imported/modified.

And you pay full price for fuel like Vic etc.

Oh and you have to take your car for a RWC yearly which is another $50-$100. (except if your car is under 3 years old)

Victoria is good for rego, goes up according to CPI. And its just over $500 for the country and a bit more for Metro.

that would be a good thing.... i cant believe the state of some cars on the roads here.

ive been semi seriously looking for a car to replace my pintara daily (cos its another sh1tbox) but so many i look at seem like they have had zero maintenance in the last 5 years, and quite frankly are deathtraps.

Petitions are up there with religion and marriage as some of the most useless things in the universe.

I refuse to participate because It won't change anything at all !

How much will it actually go up? I can't remember what my last 12 months of rego cost.

i cant remember what the cost for 12mths rego cost me but i have noticed that it does get more and more expensive each bloody year there a pack of ****s if the pollies had to pay their own rego instead of being driven around in the government cars with fuel cards i'm sure shit would soon be changed, and i reckon they should earn an wage aroune 47g a year before tax give em a a fat peice of their own cake

Rego going up will be sh!t. But people will be paying roughly $4-5 a full tank. If you can't afford that then don't drive. Ps Brett i would like to hear your views on Marriage

Uhhh its actually $30 to get a rego check done, I've just had 2 done in the past few months.
Depending on where you go, they dont even check the car, just do a brake test and sign it off, as long as the car looks half okay.
