Postby kj88fairmontghia » July 22nd, 2009, 1:07 am

hi just wondering if im going to run into any issues regarding the heater box behind the dash, as i will be changing it to a ef/el setup shortly, wil the air con lines match up or will i have to change the lot and make my job just that bit harder lol

the aircon lines bolt up to the compressor the same. If they are out a little bit, you can just bend them. Won't hurt.

With mine, it bolted straight up. Those aircon lines are a massive pain though. Who's stupid idea was it to have the 2 lines cross over each other and put the bolt under where they do? I can't get a spanner on it to do it up properly

yea it took me a while to figure that bolt out, ike 4 days lol, i found there is a gap in the log manifold, that i somehow managed to fit my hand into to get it out, thats also what i was trying to figure out as well why the lines are where they are, dose anyone know why or is this another hair brain cost cutting idea from ford

There are two options here I think. You may be able to change the front pulley on your old compressor to the ef/el one and use old compressor if you want to save the gas ( if it was workin properly before )... Or you can get (from a good a/c specialist) a H peice adaptor to mount the EA lines to the ef/el compressor. BTW I worked as an a/c specialist for 5 years..

um from what ive spoken to my old employer.. (a\c mech) ef el compressors are physically different where the pulley is. so ef\el pulleys wont fit a ea\eb\ed compressor..

Basically stock. Might fit a ls1 and manual eventually.

well if the gas is gone.. i'd just fit the later compressor then.
at my old work we charged 130 iirc for a regas. but that doesnt include any other repairs.

the gas has gotten out somehow.
so that hole would have to be fixed before they would refill the system. could just be a o ring.. or the whole a\c system could be fucked. you wont know till they pressure check it basically with a repair list...

btw. how long ago did it stop working? most of the time when a a\c system leaks there would be a oil stain somewhere. but that only stays for so long before it disapears.
so i'd suggest taking to a aircon place after the serp conversion and get a quote to see what your up for and whats broken basically
