Hmm dont want to seem stupid or anything But lately ive been finding my car accelerates better in economy mode then it does in power mode.....is this normal? Maybe my gear box is so shot that it slips in power mode....no idea.../

Power/economy has nothing to do with power output, all it does it change the shift points to a degree.

I'd say something else is a factor.

no I think its the box itself. I think its stuffed or atleast on its last legs. I got a mechanic to do a gearbox service when I got her but he reckoned he pumped 20 litres of fluid through it and still the fluid wouldn't come out pink. There only record I can find on gear box services done to the car is a sticker on the door sill saying it was serviced last in 1998. .

If that was the last time it did get a service before I serviced it do you guys reckon its a strong possibility that the box is nearly cactus? I know the shift adjustment is out and the shifter rubbers are worn on it.

Shift adjustment? Shifter rubbers? Do you mean the bands?

The box may be on its last legs. So it has fresh tranny fluid topped up to the correct level? What exactly is the box doing now, does it slip in some gears and/or thump thru gearchanges or anything? How many kms on the box? Mine's on 370,000 & performs flawlessly.

Replacement BTRs are cheap if it comes to that, you should be able to get one for aroud $150, & then a few hours' worth of labour + consumables (more tranny fluid, etc).

Yeah um It does sometimes make clunk when it down kicks I am told they normally do but I don't remember my white ED XR6 doing (shame the box was shagged in the crash). shift being out I mean when you put it in drive. you actually have to put the shifter in between N and D in the middle. As for rubbers I am pretty sure its the bands that are worn on the shifter. Question I have as far as I am aware ED XR6s have identical auto boxes to all the others?

Off the line it feels slow through first gear but feels like it really gets up and moves in 2nd. The gear changes are not what I would call smooth and in economy mode I can rev right up to red line with it. In both modes tho it feels like it holds rev when close to 5000 and its like it laags before changing up a gear and often or not its a rough gear change.

The car had 253 000 on the speedo I bought it with....i've done about 5 000 on it since I bought it so its close to proberly 260ish id say from what I know.
