skyline question.....something just wasn't right.

Postby EDXR61994 » October 4th, 2009, 2:09 pm

I an odd occurrence happened today. Was passenger in the red XR6 today when we pulled up to a black skyline bout a 91 model I believe. When he gave us the rev....which we gave back...both cars held revs and took off. I could hear the turbo in the skyline working its arss off. But for some reason the our red car won. Now its an NA ED XR6 manual with just extractors and exhaust no way in hell it should beat a skyline? only things I can think of is either the gearing was all fucked in the skyline or its driver was a tard but its hard to say. It sounded like each of its gear changes was bring reved fairly high...but he did two gear changes by the time we went from 1st to second...and he did another change on that by the time we had hit top of second going into 3rd....we were bout a car length in front.....

Now I am not bragging saying we go around owning skylines but I am scratching my head as to what the go is with that. Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe it was a bog standard R32, or something was broken in the skyline?

Was it pouring out smoke or anything?

nope no smoke emissions at all and if anything we are the ones that should be having problems...like the ED XR6 is well over due for a service...she is running rich....and she has got a hole somewhere in the exhaust or the extractors.

skyline being in 4th by the time you hit top of second sounds like he wasnt going that hard.

It wasn't actually a turbo, there was a loudspeaker under the bonnet making turbo noises.

search online cd stores till you find a copy of 'gravediggaz - 6 feet deep'.
buy this CD, get it shipped express.
when it arrives, place it in your CD player and skip to track 8.
do everything that song tells you do to.

My mate beat an R33 turbo skyline - GTS-T, big shinney intercooler on the front and was making pretty loud BOV noises... my mate was in a N/A manual BF Mk II XR-6. I thought the same thing, the skyline must have something wrong with it or the driver was a tard but idk, it reved out high.. shifted alright so I'm not sure.. I wouldnt't of believed it if I wasn't there. Especially after being in a turbo R33..

If the turbos on them only really kick in at 2500 RPM, then really its only got the power of a N/A 2.5 liter till the turbo spools up.. so off the mark I wouldn't be surprised, against a big torquey 4 liter... but we got to the speed limit (80) and the skyline was still behind.... maybe if the race was to 200 or a 1/4 mile it might of been different?

or maybe the skyline driver didnt know they were in a race lol

theres no way a na e series would beat a r32/33 or 34, hell probly not a 30 or 31 either lol, i reckon even a na skyline would be too much for a lot of e series...

i raced a p plater n/a r33 a month or so back, from about 10 -110 ks, i was sitting at his back door the whole way, hit limiter on both fkn gears which i clearly didnt mean to do.

if it wasnt for my shithouse shifting i probably would have just crept him

Yeah thats what I reckon, this guy was probably just playing around not really racing.. cos turbo skylines pull hard, a lot harder than any falcon I've been in.

lol
seeing as an R32 has an RB20det which has 158kw and 265nm and the ED XR6 has 164 kW and 366nm...
then i would say they should be kinda even anyway

haven't been in a fast Falcon then have you? My AU leaves a stock 32/33 GTS-T, light mods and they will beat 99% of N/A 6 Falcon's. Hell slo_sprint has an R33 GTS-T with fukk all done and went 14.0, a little spray and went 13.0. OED666 went 13.8 N/A, turbodrift has gone 14.0 N/A. Get boost in a Falcon 6 and low 9's/ high 8's are becoming a real possibility, whilst retaining some form of driveability.

In all honestly I am not sure what the issue was with the skyline. It sure sounded like it was reving its gutts out. but hitting the top of its rev range pritty quick per gear. Beats me.... and yeah in a full blown proper race where both cars are running properly and both going full at it I see no reason for an NA XR6 to beat a turbo skyline. As for NAs I have seen them loose to NA falcon sixes.
