Uncle Fungus' EB2 Fairmont Ghia V8

Postby Uncle Fungus » October 12th, 2009, 3:04 pm

Finally bought myself my dream car!

1993 EB2 Fairmont Ghia V8
- 90,000km
- 1 owner before me
- SVO headers
- Lovell springs, koni shocks
- Alpine sound system (factory speakers with newer Alpine head unit)

The owner lived in the country and hardly ever used this car. It still runs and drives like new.

Took some poor quality pics, will take some better pics tomorrow once I've cleaned it up.

Pretty much nothing, it's already has more modifications that I usually fit to a car.

It hasn't been used in 2 years, my plans are:

- New oil / fluids
- Coolant flush
- Steam clean the carpet
- Clay bar and wax the paintwork
- Clean / detail the engine bay. Just so it looks new, no fancy paintwork or anything

It's good to have people look after certain examples so that later down the track we can see that yes, E-Series Falcons actually did look new at one stage. Hi-Res pics after you've done all of the above would be a must!

Very nice mate, have you thought of clear indicators and au repeaters? i recon it would top it off.

Btw raptor make a reasonably priced supercharger kit for these... just a thought lol.

Yeah I'll be keeping it pretty much the way it is now. It'll mostly stay in a garage under a car cover.

Took some better pictures, this is after using a claybar on the paintwork and washing the carpets / seats and using leather cleaner/conditioner.

Still got at least 3 layers of wax to put on it and then on to the engine bay.

Also I'm getting the wheels re-polished this Saturday as they are quite dull / tarnished and the clearcoat is cracked.

bah Imageshack seems to be having a problem. I'll try posting the pics later

Holy cr@p that is identical to the one I bought 4 years ago. Mine didn't have the skirts. But same wheels, spoiler and interior!

I swapped the wheels for 16" ED XR rims then sold the car (for way to less) to Snort Performance. It has a turbo now.

Anyway, yours is pretty mint!

Don't worry, this car will be treated like royalty

- Not going to be driven in the rain
- Not going to be driven on gravel or through road works
- Not going to be parked out of my sight
- Not going to be modified further
- Kept in a garage that I will keep moisture free, both the garage and car are alarmed.
- Going to be servied by a mechanic who did his apprentiship at Ford back when the EB2/ED models were brand new.

I've got a Nissan Bluebird to get around in so I don't have to rely on the Fairmont for daily use.

The body kit and spoiler are factory or dealer fitted, not sure. The front lip isn't though, as the original one got smashed when the first owner hit a possum.

Everyone I've shown it to has been very impressed with the condition etc :) Even people who don't like big V8s

This is a lovely car.

The only thing I would look for, is the Momo steering wheel with cruise. I always thought the Ghias should have had them.

Gotta get the car up to scratch before I do any mods.

So far I've done:

- New plugs
- Claybar + wax (5 layers lol)
- Cleaned out throttlebody, ISC
- Interior properly cleaned (ie seats out, carpet washed, leather conditioned).

Coming up:

- New leads
- New windscreen, existing one has stone chips
- New radiator + hoses, existing one is fine but I figure I'll get one while you can still buy them new.
- New throttle position sensors

I'll keep an eye out for a momo wheel with buttons, probably quite rare in New Zealand though. Exhaust already sounds like I want it too, the resonators have been removed and it has good headers.

Other than that I am loving this car!

Decided that the wax wasn't good enough to hide the imperfections in the clear coat. So I borrowed an orbital buffer, got myself some rubbing compound and some polishing compound and went to work. It was already smooth due to the clay, and after some trial and error I got the clear coat looking mint. Most of the swirl marks and scratches have been completely removed.

The polishing would have completely removed all the wax so I had to re-do it. I've put 2 coats of sealant (synthetic wax) and one coat of carnauba wax. These were applied 24 hours apart to allow the sealant to cure.

My camera doesn't really show the difference, but I'll post pics anyway :)
