Changing Ford Badge Colour

Postby mad_keen » February 17th, 2010, 3:26 pm

Today i tried to change the colour of the ford badge on the back of my car and turns out they have changed the way ford badges are made. Your ment to be able to sand the back of the badge until the colour is gone then just paint it the colour u want, but the colour in my badge was part of the gell front, so it cant be changed.

Does anyone know when they started making ford badges this way?

I have seen it done. Try melting the resin with a lighter and scoop it out.
Then you will need to either paint the inside surface and cover in clear resin or mix up a coloured resin and pour it in.

I have tried it myself, you can get the resin out without damaging the badge just time cosuming. ( i got lazy and gave up)

Yer i heated the rubbery shit on the front of the badge up and it come out from inside the chrome frame but i cant c how it can be changed. The piece that comes out sits in a chrome bottom which is what gives the ford writing its colour and the blue is actually apart of the rubbery stuff so if u cut it off it wont sit flush with the outside lip.

www.lasermods.com.au have coloured ones. They have the right size for the front but not for the back. only 20bux

if you can get the rubber out, leaving you with a plain chrome badge, you have a few options

paint around the lettering with the desired colour, prob want some watery paint so it runs around the edges and into gaps easy.

or

vinyl sticker in the right colour.

get some embedding resin (clear) and fill the badge.

embedding resin is the stuff they use to put insects into blocks etc.
if mixed right it can be as clear as glass.
its also very watery, so flows nicely.
