Microsoft Outlook 07 help!

Postby private9 » April 20th, 2010, 9:15 pm

Hi All,

Have been fiddling with outlook and googling as well for the last few hours, but still can't figure out how to do what I'm after, so thought I'd try my luck here!

Basically, I'd like to run multiple email accounts through outlook (I'm running 07 if that makes any difference).

So far, I have setup the email addresses that I want in Outlook, and have added a separate personal folder for each address.

So I now have a seperate inbox, sent items etc for each email address, but no matter what I do, new mail, sent items etc all seems to be going through only the one (original) inbox/sent items!

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? I'm sure it can be done, as I'm sure I've done it before, but memory is failing!

Thanks in advance!

Justin.

Go to Control Panel, Mail.

Then select Email Accounts..

All the email addresses you have setup should be listed there. Can you select the email address and then select the appropriate personal folder from there..

I cant fully test this theory (above) as my email setup on this computer is using Exchange, not personal folders.

You can rename your personal folders as well. In Outlook, right click the personal folder, and select properties. Press the advanced button, and then in the window that appears, change the "Name" line to the description you want.. :)

Legend, thanks!!!

I reckon I must've stared at that exact screen at least 20 times, it was even more frustrating knowing that it had to be done there, and that I'd done it before!

Oh, and that for the tip re the naming ;-)

Nice!

There's got to be a more reliable/stable solution than Outlook out there, I hate it!

i just would hate to support a non exchange enviroment or outlook account lol
exchange gets rid of so many varibles, but obviously cant run an exchange setup at your average house

its a mail server usually more suited to large companies in a active directory domain enviroment.
its just alot easier to support when a large number of people involved and alot easier to fix when shit breaks as long as the infrastructure is setup correctly.
you still use outlook, but rather than entering shit like pop servers and what not, you enter the mail exchange and your name and it will connect to the mail server where all the mail is stored. so you can access the mail from any PC within that network.
adding extra mailboxes and what not is really easy also.

come to think of it i dont think theres any other way of supporting a large number of users on the same network lol.

Cool, completely useless to me then!

Are there any decent alternatives to Outlook out there?

yeah pretty much :p

have a read through this
nto sure how good the info is but i guess its a place to start.
i guess a bonus is that pop accounts (as used by hotmail etc) will be supported by most if not all email apps
