Haha. If I bought that, it'd end up sitting in my already too small garage for ever, with me not being arsed to actually go and get them fixed. It's not like there's anything wrong with my current seats anyway!

btw since the last update I put the EF XR rocker cover on. I also picked up a V8 brake booster off Kev (they hold vacuum a lot better supposedly... plus this one doesn't have half the paint missing) so I just have to get around to swapping it over

Well, as I mentioned in my last update... I picked up a V8 brake booster and master cylinder off Kev. Today thanks to Anthony (BBQburner) we swapped it all over. The old booster was a massive eyesore so the new one really improves the appearance of the engine bay. Pedal pressure's a bit nicer too.

The new booster and master cylinder ready to go in
Image

The old booster. For sale, slightly used condition!
Image

The master cylinder didn't look anywhere near as bad but we replaced it anyway
Image

The final result. Much better!
Image

I also got myself a BA XR6 intake snorkel. I just need to modify it a little bit (doesn't clear the back of the thermos) and I'll swap it over too

Postby Dezza » June 14th, 2010, 5:40 pm

Speaking of mechanicals needing attention, in the last couple of weeks, my diff had developed quite a lot of noise. On Thursday I then noticed a pool of oil on the driveway and on close inspection, I discovered a crack across the diff housing. So today Kev, Bomber and JoshL swapped it with a very tight 3:27 LSD. I was surprised that the old diff was actually a 3:23! I always thought it was a 2:92 but that explains why it always seemed quicker than a lot of e-series.

Kev also replaced the muffler on my exhaust (it was leaking bad) so it sounds heaps better. I also fitted my BA XR6 intake snorkel. Needed a little bit of customising but looks good now.
Anyway a few pics of the old diff.

The old diff still in the car
Image
It's now destined for scrap metal
Image
Well that explains a lot! Clearly the snapped off tooth hit and cracked the housing. Not a bad effort really!

Just one. Terrible photo but shows how much bigger it is. The modification was I heated it up with a heatgun, put it in, and let the thermos push in the part that wouldn't clear. Not the neatest job ever but I prefer it over the standard EL snorkel

huggiebear wrote:keep the LSD center and flog it off on ebay, they seem to go pretty quick on there.

I left the old diff at Kev's. If he wants to remove anything off it, it's up to him now.

Postby Dezza » August 14th, 2010, 9:22 pm

Time for a major update. The EA is now a weekender. After a series of issues, I've realised it's time for something newer and more reliable. Since the diff failure, I had to pretty much replace the entire fuel system, frayed a handbrake cable, and now have a leaky and noisy T5. So I decided to buy this:

Image
Image

It's an AUII Fairmont. Duel fuel, tinted windows, spoiler, and not a lot else. Plans are minor for it. First priority is to get it roadworthy, and replace the climate control LCD screen. Then I'll focus on that exhaust tip, remove badges, chrome interior handles (and maybe mirror scalps) and try to get woodgrain doorspears and T-bar surround.

As for the EA, I'll now have the opportunity to do mods that I never would have had the chance to do. That'll come later though. Just for kicks, here's a couple of photos of mine with an EA my next door neighbour picked up for $200. It's a real before and after scenario!

60L's a reasonable size, mine's about 47L :(

Enjoy the savings on gas, you'll notice that it pretty much halves your fuel bill. I do 800-1000kms/week & it costs around $50-60 for me :drinks2:
