XH's New Daily (holding back from boosting....lol)

Postby XH5LWEPN » June 16th, 2010, 11:12 pm

Well the time came to grab myself a tidy daily driver. Had the need for 4 doors, so Marty took the Courier off me and i went on the hunt for a nice E-series. Only wanting an EF-EL and the necessary requirements were 5.0L engine,(Of course!!!) and had to have either factory Tickford Body kit and/or Factory fitted Sunroof.
With the last two things on baord it made things difficult. Had a look at a couple of EL XR8's but to no avail. I wasnt fussed about driveline spec/condition as thats my forte, i can take care of that, but paint, interior and body had to be mint, or damn close to. So with the EL XR8's ticking some of the boxes for requirements, unfortunately the body/paint/interiors failed the inspection.

Then i came across this '96 EL Fairmont Ghia.
Looked at it last night and left with it in my posession an hour later.

It was a 5.0L, it had the factory Sunroof and the paint was mint, so i had to have it.

Its got all the Ghia luxuries of course, like Leather (half velour), Chrome, Woodgrain, Climate Control etc.

Stock motor with just a single 2.5" exhaust.
179,000kms
1 Year old duel fuel system. Will keep it on untill a drop a new engine into it.
Lowered on Dobinsons springs and shortened shocks.
Limo tint.
EL Momo option Steering Wheel.
18" ANZ Mayhems. Which are for sale, love dish but cant stand chrome wheels on my cars.
Full stereo with all Alpine gear including head unit, splits, 2 4ch amps and 2 Rockford 10" Subs.
Autowatch alarm with microwave sensors etc. Also wired up, so when armed closes all open windows and sunroof!!!

Not going to get carried away with this one like the ute. So plans are, to firstly get two new tyres on my Dark Argent copies and get them on, then go right over the car with a major service. Get rid of the Rockford 10's and put my 2 x Type-S 12's in and ditch one 4ch amp and fit my 4ch Alpine PDX. Throw some clearside repeaters on it then just drive it for a while.
Untill cash allows, then i'll hunt down an AU 220kw motor, fit that, 2500-2800 stall, tight BTR, and 3.9 gears with fresh LSD, and obviously all the other bits that come with it, exhaust, intake and decent ignition etc.

Anyway, i suck at writing build threads now, can only update them, so heres some pics.

Before i bought it, pics from advertisement.

Thanks mate.
Yeah, like i said, plan is for AU 220kw motor, such a good factory motor and still give that daily street friendly manners with good get up and go. That motor, mated to a tight BTR with mild stall and 3.9's should hopefully see the boat do 13's.

Yeah will be getting the correct taillights ASAP!!

Yeah apparently the half leather half velour was actually quite rare in these, is that right?
Not sure why the taillights have been swapped, but will get rectified.

No probs mate. They are an easy swap. Have done a few AU motors into e-series now, definately a worthwhile upgrade, providing you pick up the AU motor at the right price.

the half leather half velour is very rare, i think leather was the standard and you had to de-spec to get the half/half option.
which i think was opposite to EF.

keeping it gas?
if so please remove the maf right now.

biggest intake restriction. and the gas system doesnt need a maf to run (have tested this on bumbers gas v8)

Yeah the gas system will just stay as it is untill i get the cash and am in the position to drop an AU 220 motor into it, at that point the duel fuel will be ditched and she'll be running back on petrol only.
