I think you misunderstand - I hate all cars, some just a lot more than others. There is no car on earth that doesn't leak, break, make strange noises or generally be an expensive pain in the ass, no matter how much you spend. There is no point me changing manufacturers and basically throwing away all of the product knowledge I have gained. Any move I make will be out of the automotive industry for good.

As I said, I'm a mechanic. Have been for more than 10 years, I've worked on a million different cars from a hundred different makes. To figure out which is the 'best' car of all you'd need to decide what criteria you are going to use to base that decision upon. E-series are piss easy to work on, have an amazing level of parts interchangability, are cheap and highly 'modifiable' (If that's even a word), so they are my preference.

If you've spent any time in a VE engine bay you'll find that under the big plastic covers they look like crap and are crap to work on, and there is nowhere to put your tools or the bolts and miscellaneous crap you remove while you work.

Besides all that, the most important passive safety aspect of any vehicle is the ability to see other traffic and road hazards, and the VE is like peering out of a letterbox. While someone has got their hand through the slot and is poking you in the eye with their fingers. Fail. I just can't get past that. FG have a 5 star crash rating and yet their pillars are nowhere near as big - go figure.

Also: Why has the white lettering been rubbed off your brake calipers? And where is the little dot that makes up the 'hole' in the 'A' in Maloo? I love holden build quality.

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. yeah thats your opinion man. what new car is nice looking when you take of the engine covers? boss motors are ugly as **** under there. its all what you like. id rather pay under 40k for this and at least get my money back when i sell it than own another eb and spend 25k on it , just to get 8k back
i understand e series are cheap and can be modded easy as all hell. but now i want a car that goes, looks, stops and drives well.

also good spot on the bit missing on the "a" in maloo. didnt even know it was meant to be there :D

Yeah the current LSx motors are pretty reliable. 430rwkw is great on a stock bottom end, go ask the guy how much his blower kit cost him haha.

Postby Josh L » July 16th, 2010, 6:41 am

Me n Dylan know a bloke with a VE wagon (Berlina?) anyway, with the Harrop kit he originally got 460ish rwkw and then got it detuned for the safety of the engine.

Great Pickup Dylan,

Has got everything that opens and closes or turns on and off.
Very Clean unit (as it should be for those kms)
And seems to have plenty of poke for a holden :) nah just playing, it is a real tuff looking car....and nice and comfy to ride in :)
Only thing thats annoying....as you said....visibility is not good....esp for us short people :)

Cant wait for a ride when its not busy on the road and not at night.

Dont get bored of this one!!

haha fair enough ay i hate buying tyres too! i thought it woulda been more expensive for big power?
my house mate has a VE ss wagon, its nice as to drive too.. makes my car feel flogged out! Understandable tho his has only done 25,000km. goes ok but i think the goon's are heavier than the utes?

i also had a bit of a run with a VE GTS yesterday... went better than i thought (dunno if it was stock?) but still not as good as the ol 4L :-P

that will be nice, a v8 with that sort of power NA would be alot of fun on the street.. sux the boss motors aren't as good.. this new 5.0L looks like it might be tho.

to do those things to it would it be around 5 or 6g's??

You should take it to the drags and do a few runs with and without the hard cover - I'd be very interested to see which setup is quicker. You'd prob get better traction off the line with the hard cover, but the extra weight might cost you some time....I don't know which setup would be more efficient aerodynamically...

I saw an episode of mythbusters where they compared the fuel consumption of two F150s, one with tailgate up, one down, and no hardcover on either, the one with the tailgate up actually had better fuel consumption due to the air in the tray 'tumbling' and making the air flow over the tray rather than getting 'caught' on the tailgate.

For drags you would just remove hard lid and the tail Gate

bentles - did you not read the bit in my post where mythbusters got better fuel consumption with the tailgate fitted and closed? Better fuel consumption = more slippery = more speed. The question is whether the hardcover is even better again taking into account the weight penalty, or not...

well ive been told that with ve LS2 you do cam, OTR intake, exhaust and tune and they reckon 330-340 rwkw.

My mates Maloo runs a 6.2l with mass cam, CAI, full exhaust with tune and that's got a healthy 310rwkw.

ah ok seems a bit low? they boys up the street had a vz clubby on the dyno, decent cam, OTR, full x force twin 2.5 in and tune running 310rwkw and said you would see more from a L98.( and more again with twin 3'')
