600hp VG30DETT cressida. As featured in Zoom. even still has standard dash with no monster tacho or anything IIRC.

EDIT: apologies, I'm thinking of a bluebird I think. This one has a 'J series in it.

i dont know mate i jus seen it for sale on street fords

onereded we have one of them here in orange its white and is now single turbo and has 100 shot of nos so i dont think thats a sleeper the cressida in that model also came out in a turbo model not with a vg30 but

and the corollas have been played out with 351s 350s and rotarys and anything else you can get i think a sleeper looks totally stock but has a little surprise

The WRX STi or RS turbo liberty running gear into Brumbie ute beasts getting around are all great sleepers too.

This light coloured 80's bluebird I'm thinking of is totally stock from the exterior and interior! Standard wheels and tires, standard exhaust tip etc. I think it has a well muffled (and hidden) 3.5" system so it sounds quiet as well. The interior is standard from seats to dash to shifter. But under the bonnet is a ~605hp VG30DETT

Guy here in Adelaide built it. Goes hard apparently. One of my mates was going to buy it, but bought a BA XR8 ute instead. The guy that built the car also has a R32 GTR which he has just rebuild the engine in....i think he likes boost

The MX83 cressida never came out as a turbo, it had the N/A Supra motor in it.

I'm with Jared, I have all of the issues of zoom magazine that feature the build up of that cressie, totally grandpa spec all around, but with a 600hp bite!!

you might want to have a good look at that again they did come out turbo as did most luxury cars from japan it wouldve been an import maybe like the rest are i spose but i know they did make them cos i seen it and the engine numbers matched and it was also a single old lady owner so unless the old lady couldnt be late for bowls id doubt she modded it but ill have a look and check im right but it looked stock as

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Cressida

No MX83 (fourth gen) cressida came with a turbo from factory, they had the N/A supra / soarer motor in them (7M-GE). The same motor was available in a turbo version, known as the 7M-GTE, but that was ONLY available in the supra and soarer. It's a very common mod for people to put the turbo supra motor (and many others) in, so perhaps the little old lady owner takes her bowls much more seriously than you thought! :P lol

I agree, though, that ute is pretty cool, no one would suspect it, but it can't compare to a 600hp grandpa car!

That ute is great :D I love it.

Would you consider a sleeper to be a car that looks stock on the outside but goes really fast, or just a car that people never expect to be quick?

I'm in the latter category for sure - there have been a very large number of skyline/wrx owners that act all fully sick and gas it off the lights or beside me 'n shit while I'm minding my own business, making their teeny little stock turbos spool up and make a lot of noise...they all get a big surprise when I do it right back :D

It's all fun and games till you get stomped on by a white 1500kg family car :)

The 250 crossflow loves a bit of positive pressure that's for sure.

The Sprint made a good sleeper, not quite on the level of that ute but alot of people obviously thought it was just another poly green falcon, i showed them the error of their ways.

Check out the builds section on http://www.performanceforums.com - there are a few cars in there that go a LOT faster than they look like they should. One guy has a stock looking R31 with a 2j nooshit in it, last I knew he was in the 11's and still heading south - IIRC he was messing about with converters, diff gears and tyre sizes to get it into the 10s...

There's a dude I know of with a carby-fed LS1 in a plain white VN lurking around the western parts of Victoria. Meant to be very quick, but doesn't look it.
An ex mechanic of ours had a white VR/VS commodore a while ago with an RB26 in it (before he worked for us). 32psi of kick and it was all legal, well, in WA it was anyways. I think he sold it to someone in Victoria. I'm remembering it was close to 500rwkw. Catch is, the car ran around on stockies with standard hubcaps and was a complete sleeper all round. I think the new owner did some external mods so it isn't quite the sleeper anymore, but I can't really remember it was a few years ago.

Had a quick look on there. First car that came up was a Daihatsu? Feroza, powered by an EF2 Ghia 4L Ticky motor, lol! Would be fun!

Best sleeper would have to be Hiboost's EL or an old school Corolla that was at Easternats a few years ago. Orange with a 2J under the bonnet. Even had the tiny wheels with chrome wheel trim :D Kept up with and passed a fair few VLT's down the straight ;)

Saw what must have been an INSANE sleeper today... Spotted an older light blue 2-door lancer (say early nineties), not a GSR or evo, just a pov-spec one. Had 16" Azzuro rims with some reasonably wide rubber. Looked standard otherwise. Then I spotted it had a very well hidden 6+ point rollcage, and a shitload of guages near the glovebox area. No idea what was in it, couldn't see an intercooler, and it was quiet, but it meant serious business...

runs 2 R32/R33 GTR turbos, seperate exhasut for each turbo. Exhaust is twin 2.5" straight pipes.
