CAr Covers - outdoor and indoor

Postby BROCKYB8 » January 31st, 2011, 11:03 am

Hey guys i was unsure where to put this but thought what the hell ill chuck it up ,

Im looking at getting some sort of cover for the EA as it will sitting out for a little while this next few months .
I have often seen many car covers but have never really understood what works and what doesnt .
Alot of ones are purely indoor but from the oudoor ones ive heard nothing .

Has anyone got experience with specific brands .
And also do they have tips on what actually works to keep problems happening to car and cover .

Please any infor would be good thanks

Just leave it outside, make sure its not directly under trees or power lines to avoid the bird crap and leave it.

I wouldn't be worried about dust/dirt.
tree sap and bird crap are the biggest issue.

I am not a fan of outdoor covers, if dust gets in and the wind flaps it around a bit it will scratch.Same with Car bra-s.
When I had to leave one of my cars outside for a couple months in the open, before I left it, i washed it and waxed the crap out of it.Then when i went back to it I put half a cup of Kero in the wash bucket with the soap and it all just slid off !
Maybe don't use kero these days, but a good gentle wash when you get it back should do as the wax should have protected the paint from the elements.

I bought a Monza one from Autobarn and it seems ok. Has been rained on a few times and car was still dry underneath. The material is a silver reflective plastic on the outside and cotton on the inside. Was about $200 from memory.

I bought this for 0.99 and well its good for keeping out the sunlight I guess and it considerably reduces the amount of rain that gets on the car, and seeing all my rubbers are gone thats a good thing. But still for the price it still lets in small amounts of water obviously during heavy rain....to be expected :P

I was also looking at those $450 ones, and will be getting one when I respray because I've heard good things..

i bought a shitty 70 dollar one. the other day cause i moved into a new place and there is a cat there .. Buy extra large! . The packet said large would fit falcons and xtra large would fit fairlanes but the large just made it over the boot and it has a zip on it i think its ment to be for the drivers door butt its on the left side of the car.. And im kinda worried about it scratching.. Moral of this story.. dont buy a cheap one :)

This thread is handy to know about because where the EA is usually parked now, it collects leaves something chronic so a car cover will be one of my plans for the near future.
