what gear box for a 250

Postby doey » March 14th, 2011, 6:07 pm

i have my xd sedan and before i put it on the road i want to put either a 4 or 5 speed manual in it.

im guessing a t5 wouldnt go in it. is it a borg box that will go in it.

Since XFs were available with the T5 I'm pretty sure you'd have no trouble putting one in an XD mate.

4 Spds are pretty easy to find, but can be a weaker box than the T5, T5s do fit up to a 250 but you will need to find the correct bellhousing.

little bit pricey

unless its full conversion, so like pedal box ecu loom like everything

try n get him down seeings its a mate, and sell the parts ya dont need

if its just bare box and clutch wouldnt pay more then like $600, no matter how new the clutch is, if he didnt put it in right its probably fucked

$600? **** that. I wouldnt pay more than 300 for a i6 T5. I sold a conversion out on an el xr and this thing had a short throw shifter and a near new JMM street fighter clutch for $550

Tell your mate to jam it and offer him $300.

He clearly said it was a full kit, I can easily see it being worth 800 with EL box, I sold a EA conversion with a pretty much new clutch for $700.

what motor is in it? 84 da?
the number im referring to is cast into the block under 5&6 intake runners

iirc they changed the bolt pattern and thread type in the crankshaft. in the late xf's 86 da (88da for xf utes)
from imperial to metric. ford no longer sell new xf imperial crankshaft bolts either
so something to keep in mind

im actually converting my xf over to a single rail and so far its cost me about $250 and might at a stretch end up being $300 all up. but ive been lucky so far. also my motor being a 84da motor ive found it easy sourcing parts too.
got most of it as a conversion. and the missing peices ive just gotten from the wreckers

also i got a reasonable ea t5 for 100 on this forum too. to replace my rooted on that im currently using. so cheap t5's do exist aswell
the one your mate is selling is pricey taking into consideration alot of the bits you cant use on a x series to begin with
pedal box is different.
ecu is different
different bellhousing
tailshaft is different.
may be a better option to keep a eye out on ebay, trading post, forums, wreckers

Basically stock. Might fit a ls1 and manual eventually.

Oh and a 93 dc 2 Ltd. Rusting away. Past the point of being saved
