Top Gear or Fifth Gear?

Postby feXomorph » June 7th, 2011, 4:10 pm

What is better?
There are a few "professional" articles on the internet,
but I want to know what you guys think?

In my opinion, Top Gear is the best with entertainment and facts.

Fifth Gear is a bit stagnant
May the boost be with you.

Top gears great if u want a laugh but 5th gear is a more serious show. They're both definitely worth watching though.

Clarkson can be a one eyed dipshit and thinks landrovers should be bathed in gold and his mechanical knowledge is shit, just because a car has a live axle doesnt mean it handles like crap, May should be retirement home, Hammond is there to get chicks and should be driving a Golf with neons even though he's 40, but i love it when they thrash $200,000+ cars drifting etc because you know most of the people who buy them are rich pricks who couldnt drive a finger up their ass.... 5th gear is good to watch too

i don't think the hosts sit down and write the show guys lol
remember we are watching what the producers want us to watch.
i reckon top gear is good for a laugh and their random adventures, 5th gear is alright just not presented in the same way.

nah hes funny on ocasion but the other 2 laugh at him more than laugh with him. But saying that, May is better than the original 3rd guy was at the very start of the 1st series ( cant remember his name but the original guy was dead set boring. )
Jeremy can laugh at himself or take a joke and is a savage wordsmith when having a go at something or someone that he doesnt like or disagrees with, and both him and Hammond cracked me up whenever they crushed a favorite car that May likes or keep driving into any of May's cars to come to a stop. anytime May cracks the shits I laugh even more.

top gear is 100x better then those hacks over at fifth gear

The only let down for top gear is their interviews. *Sometimes* they have someone worth watching but most of the time its a low profile brit. I also reckon it would be much more fun if the reasonably priced car was RWD, that would make the hot laps way more interesting to watch.

This. Even Vicki Henderson-Hyphenated surname is a gun driver.

Top Gear would be better if it had some facts, and if Clarkson wasn't an over-opinionated, whinging softcock pom. The SL65 Black article is a good example, he loves it because he can think he's a race driver in a car with an automatic gearbox. Every other review on earth questions why a car has no rear seats, carbon fibre galore, an auto and soft suspension. Same with torque steer. Every FWD car has torque steer, get over it. Try holding the steering wheel when you take off. And a car doesn't have '400 torques' FFS.

The camera work in Top Gear is incredible though, I'd hate to think how much they spend on helicopters, cameras, chase vehicles etc.

Does anyone else know that 'Old Top Gear' was Fifth Gear with a different name?

There's also a US version of Top Gear too, but that is just a huge circle-jerk. Everything and everyone is just amazing and without fault, in true US fashion of being scared of getting sued by a car company or something.

*Sometimes* they have someone worth watching but most of the time its a low profile brit.

True. Brian Johnson, Jay Kay, Billie Piper, all of the Spice Girls, Sir Michael Attenborough, Danni Minogue, Nick Mason, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Andy Garcia, Cameron Diaz, Sienna Miller, Eric Bana. Who are they again?

you think spice girls and danni minogue make interesting interviews on a car show??? You make such a compelling argument when you had 17 seasons to choose from. Plus most of their decent guests have been only recently anyway.

for every one good one there has been at least 10 shit ones.

About as interesting/relevant on a car show as putting a small shed on the back of a car and calling it a motorhome, or trying to make a Hilux go across the English Channel.

I picked those names off the top of my head. There would be plenty more. What 17 seasons worth of celebrities would you put on there?

The 'toyboata' is one of their most highly rated episodes, thats why they did it twice. If not remove the celebrities, then at least shorten it.

Doesn't surprise me that it's a highly rated ep, it's a funny episode. But like I said, it has about as much to do with cars as the Spice Girls or Danni Minogue.

Yeh thats true. It was originally funded by the BBC and hence british taxpayers. But it is currently the most watched TV show in the world and their money comes from selling the show to channel 9 and others around the world.

What's your point?

Are you saying they should accommodate the million or so (at best) Australian viewers at the expense of a billion other viewers? Maybe they could make an Australian version of Top Ge.. oh wait..

yehhh, a billion might be a little over zealous. Most estimates place it around 350 million... Surely your not guessing that Australia makes up 0.1% of their total viewership?

Everyone knows top gear Australia is shit.

Ive made my point, less time with celebrities more banter, challenges and cars. Its the latter three parts of the show that made it popular.
