i'm pretty sure the full story is that they won't be issuing on the spot fines, but you may stil end up in court

It would be a shame if a bunch of idiots got themselves/others killed during the fine-less period, as otherwise we could use this as an opportunity to get data proving that speed cameras do not save lives.

ofcourse the highway patrol cars will be out, they're simply not handing out on the spot speeding fines.

i didnt say pwy is a racetrack. Just feel less worried about getting defected for 'cruising' or 'parking at sandown/bp/etc'

if something went wrong as a result of their 'actions' their arses would be handed to them, regardless of the reason for their strike action or what ever they're doing.
i expect business as usual from the police point of view, but the whole idea will hopefully mean theres a crap load of people out.

The banning of issuing infringements works in the advantage for members of Vicpol, not hoons who think that Victoria police are taking a dive.
For motorists this means if you're caught in a situation where you'd normally recieve a infringement, you'll be looking at losing your car for 30 days and then being issued a summons to court. It's an effective way of telling the Vic Government 'get f***ed' by jamming the courts full of pissy issues because they aren't willing to pay the 4.5% pay rise that's been asked for.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion Constable Tim - Only been in the force for a few months, and already talking like a disgruntled member with many years experience and in dire need of a pay increase. Hope you don't take out that anger on people just trying to keep shit real.

Does this include minor traffic offences such as failing to indicate or speeding < 10K's?
