i think there is too much focus on 2012 and not enough focus on the issue which will cause the destruction of the world.
the naturally sustainable human population on this planet was passed around 1850.
in 1850 the population was about 1260 million.
The current population is over 6900 million and climbing at such a rate they have to do the charts in log Y with specific reference to the day the number was taken on.
its the number of humans that is the primary reason for so much polution.
it is the number of humans causing the extinction of natural habitat.
it is the number of humans causing the thurst for oil.
it is the number of humans forcing countries to ignor the planet in an attempt to sustain the population.
the generally agreed future is that over the next 50 years the world will collapse into a coma and when it wakes up, the human cancer will have reduced to something the size of a small wart on its arse.

1985 may have been the critical mass with two factors still in play....
firstly natural superphosphate and secondly a readily available fuel source known as oil.
commercial quantities of natural superphopsphate have already run out and been supplimented with oil derived superphosphate for many years.
commercial supply of oil is expected to become unviable around 2020 and is already unstable.
without both these suppliments, the worlds population is not even remotely sustainable at populations like 1985.....4800M.
also i just found out the australian dollar is likely to be worth more than the american by christmas and possibly reach 1.5 us dollars.
This is a little disturbing as it means america in total ecconomic devastation will be desparate to firstly unload dead wood population and secondly grab international assets.

Ahh, a good point!

Theoretically we may actually experience population decline as early at 2029, as 1987 was the "peak" year regarding the rate of population growth, but since then the rate of growth has decreased steadily. If this trend continues, there will be NO growth by 2029. Should be a good thing, providing we get past 2012.

its already started happening in your life.
the fires and droughts are a direct result of the changes
the earth quakes and tsunami also.
they were originally estimated to start increasing in number around 2009.
in the last couple of years we already had worst fire on record, worst drought in decades, most powerful cyclone on record, and thats just on the australian mainland.
worst tsunami in history, biggest volcano in history, highest carbon in the atmospher since the dinoseurs. widest rice crop failures in decades, most earth quakes, largest earth quake in decades.

We are to see tornados in australia soon, world wide massive crop failures and droughts, cyclones even larger than monica, fires on a regular basis similar to victoria.

oh and thats just from now till 2020. after that it really gets bad when the world weather patterns become completely unstable.
massive heat waves followed by mini ice ages followed by heat waves with bugger all plant life surviving the extremes.
expect about 6000,000,000 people to die from exposure and starvation between now and 2050.
...honestly, it may actually happen like the above... thing is no one event will happen to everyone at once. some people will feel the effect of one thing, and not another.
for some it may seem mild, for others extreme (i.e. extreme if it kills you).

problem with the statistics is most of it is refered to rate or rise increasing.
rate of rise increase means acceleration lol.
even if the population trend indicates population decline by 2029, that is ten years too late for it to reach the levels of 1900 where it would need to be lol.
and considering the population is 150% higher than its peak in 1987, that leaves us with a required population reduction of 7 out of 10 people over 10 years.
which basically meants no one having kids, and atleast 50% volunteering to die.
If this doesnt happen, we will probably see the wide spread re introduction of an old practise called cannibolism.

wasnt aware the ozone did repair itself.
I know there was a world wide industry removal of all ozone depletion gases.
I thought there was still a few holes but their size has been stabilised as the moves world wide were undertaken in the early 1990s.

well since this topic was discussed, the predictions have been fairly accurate.
Japan tsunami, volcanic activity increase, storms in US, floods and fires in australia, food shortages in africa.
Interestingly I originally (around 1986) thought the solar maxima would hit about 2016, but according to current research its more likely to hit around 2012-2013. This will probably bring wide spread food crop failures.
was very interesting to re visit this discussion and compare it with what has happened since.

Yeah but go and look at the same period of time (roughly a year) at pretty much any time in recorded history and you will be able to find a similar list of natural disasters to write down and say "look the predictions have been fairly accurate"

If the world is still here in 2013 then everyone that ever thought it was going to end in 2012 needs to STFU forever. They are not allowed to have an opinion on anything more important than what to have for breakfast ever again.

If I remember I'll do some epic thread mining in this thread as well and post again in 2013... that is my prediction.

apart from the information discussed in this topic, which in depth explains the current events to "not follow trends", just consider four facts which have happened in the last 5 years.
Monica - largest cyclone in history hits NT coast.
Yausi - claimed even larger cyclone hits Qld coast.
Australian Government buys land in an attempt to create a nature corrador from bottom of South Australia to Darwin. This path is to provide animal a chance to survive as the climate changes, reducing extinctions.
Thermal currents in the sea below Australia change, causing sharks to move in shore, and more people are attached by sharks in one year than in the past ten combined.
whales have changed migration patterns, collecting in shark bay and qld instead of migrating across the globe.
penguines have changed their migration.
NT just had a record flood event this year, following Qld floods.
Central australia had rain almost every week for the past year and is now in constant threat of fires.
These are just a few examples of events which have not happened in historic trends, for decades, and for the most part all happened in the past year.
All are predicted in the discussion dating back to 2008, all are inter connected, all are part of what is commonly called "Global Warming".
These are just in Australia, and there is a lot of others I didnt go into. To list the events world wide in the same period would take too long, but on just about every continent, the story is the same. Floods, Cyclones, Fires, earth quakes, and increasingly, volcanic activity.
You could also look at NZ, the earth quakes over there destroying buildings which were hundreds of years old..., even locally, I have seen three 400+ year old trees die on my land due to abnormal weather conditions in the past year. Trees which survived hundreds of years of natural events, buildings which survived hundreds of years of natural events. Sea currents which have not changed in documented history are now changed..... at some point ya just got to say "climate shit may actually be happening"...

Kind of agree, but at the same time, really not. Firstly, it is not global warming, and that term was only used as an abbreviation of enhanced global warming. The term is global climate change based on the fact that the globe is not just warming. Various latitudes will experience the effects of GCC in different ways. Global warming is a natural event which promotes life. This is due to, as heat (via short wave radiation from the sun) enters our atmosphere, there is already some radiation reflected back into space. Of the radiation that makes it to earth, some is absorbed, while some is reflected back out towards space (this amount depends on the albedo of the surface). The atmosphere, and the presence of a number of different greenhouse gases (here's where global warming comes in) reflect some of the now long wave radiation back down to earth. An increase in GHGs means that there is an increase in this last stage, and the earth keeps more of its heat.

What will be common, is an increase in the extreme weather events such as floods and fires which will have an impact on the security and quality of water, and it will also effect agriculture with the less predictable seasons. I am a big fan of doing away with all of these prophecies etc, for they are in no way productive. All they do is elicit hysteria, and give undue power to religious leaders who would take advantage of this (not to say all religious leaders are this way inclined).

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) made some simulations based on a number of different scenarios. Current data suggests that we are above the worst case scenario which was simulated, which means that our planet is heating up quite dramatically and is set to continue for some time.

This will impact a number of ecosystems as the earths water warms and reduces the ability for kelp to live (which feed a number of larger animals). There will also be a reduction in the number of ideal habitats as the temperature will fluctuate either side of ideal range.

To say Global climate change is the issue even though its being accelerated by enhanced global warming, generically known as global warming has me perplexed.
Global warming is the force driving "global climate change", accelerated by GHG. We all know the basic workings of the suns radiation on the earth, but as the link below for example explains, the reflective co efficient or "albedo" is reduced. This is not just due to GHG, but also due to ice melts. This in turn accelerates volcanic activity (discussed), releasing drastically more GHG, compounded by sea CO2 inversion (discussed) releasing vastly more CO2....and on and on, causing a cascade effect. It should be noted the current level of sea CO2 is largely due to past human polution. End result being acceleration of global warming beyond the ability of humans and other life forms to adapt.

It is true that global warming will promote some "forms" of life, but the life forms it premotes are forms which existed before the the first ice age, and before humans existed (already discussed). Humans like all life forms, require an environment within specific boundaries, these boundaries will be crossed as GCC caused by GHG accelerated by GHG progresses(already discussed, requiring human adaptation). The argument that green house gas premotes life was discussed earlier in this topic after I read the report from a oil backed american government report.(which was written by idiots)
Hysteria would surprise me at this point, maybe once we have regular 5+ cyclones and world wide food shortages, hysteria will happen. The scientific community has been trying to warn us for decades and we still find it hard to believe it is happening. Much of the religious beliefs are simple explanations for natural events. I was researching the origin of the Adam and Eve in the bible a few weeks ago, and found its origin in Sumarian belief. Much of the bible is a modification of Sumarian belief. Why is this important.... The Sumarians had the original calender predicting the envirnmental cycles which most of the 2012 is based on (also discussed). The Aztec calender is effectively a section of the Sumarian(discussed). Much of Sumarian religion was scientific, and in many ways more advanced than modern science in specific fields. (possible scientific knowledge of past cultures which were more advanced than current science was also discussed)
In the most part, what you have said agrees with what ive already discussed, be my guest in changing the name its recognised by, etc. Im not going to start tossing different names around which all relate to the same topic in different ways. This technique is often used to lead people away from the primary focus and is counter producting.

As ive also discussed before, the effects of global warming are vast and complex. Not only will the eccosystems shrink or disappear, but sea acid levels increase, destroying the balance etc., ice melts causing sea level rises, new evidence indicates 100,000,000 people homeless.Water shortages, floods, cat5+ cyclones blah blah blah, This has all been covered in this topic.
Ive also covered plate shift, forces due to warming water expansion, and many topics which have not yet been included in the scientific study of the situation.
I know its a big ask that people read the whole topic but unless they do, the discussion does not progress, and simply cycles over and over.
Basically its too late to stop the environmental changes from taking place (also discussed), we should now be focused on population reduction, as this is the "only" solution which will allow humanity to survive past a couple of centuries. To wait till we start dieing off due to lack of food, shelter and water in a couple of decades will be too late.
As ive also discussed recently, my focus is now on apparent temperatures, which is the environmental effect on the body translated into an apparent temperature so as we can understand what it will feel like.
as discussed, with a rise of 4 degrees and relative humidity of 80% (likely in tropical zones), the body will act as if it is in a 65 degree C environment, which is potentially fatal.

lol I dont think anyone on this topic has actually said or believes the world will end in 2012, just that we are entering a perminent climate change, which will have serious implications to how we live in the future.
The change is already happening, 2012 is used as a reference.
