Bit of an update on this, been pretty busy so haven't got a whole lot done on anything lately.
Been buying a few turbo kits, going to make the best out of a few for my EB, then use the left overs to boost something else ha ha ;)

Image

Been working on my XT500, engine needed a rebuild. Has been sitting for ten years in a pile, will be nice to get it back together!

Image

Also put the windows back in this, aligned the doors, got the engine going again, almost ready for some club rego!

Image

Been having some issues with my EB, leaking water, P/s fluid and all manner of things. The heater pipe return into the water pump was stuffed, also the feed line for the gas converter had a split in it. Ended up having to fill it with water every drive :banghead:

Found a stainless bush the exact size of the water return hole, put it in and sealed it up with a bit of stag sealant. Its pretty tight anyway. Axed the heater pipe and joined it with a short piece of heater hose. Hopefully will be alright, I'm a bit wary of heat in that area. Maybe some heat shielding / wrap will help.
Image

Image

This is why we ALWAYS run coolant kids. Ive been filling up with water only, it was going through so much. Will be coolanting it soon after I make sure its not leaking anymore!
Image

Also got a few more cars for bits - EB2 S and and EF Futura.
Image

Also cleaned the engine bay up a heap after all the fixing, heaps better. Hopefully Ill get my steering wheel back this week all retrimmed, will be good to have a decent one back again!

Cheers, hope you are all well!

Pulled my drivers seat apart the other day to fix the r/h bolster - The reinforcing rod had broken from before I bought them. Came up good, much better to sit in! Still need to fix the leather on it though.

So I impulse bought an AU XR6 on Friday. Series 3, 120000km, 5 speed, sunroof, Narooma blue (I think), cruise, VCT, 17s, supposedly got decent speakers. One owner, Got it for a pretty good price.

Its nice to be in a car where everything just works how it should. Figuring out a bit of a miss and lack of power atm, but the only other thing is the R/R door lock doesn't work. That will be replaced.

First port of call will be lowering it and a stereo, the stock Ford one is lame! Saving for some coilovers I think!

Ill grab some pics when its sunny and I've cleaned the thing lol, but its mint. Almost as good as my 50000km xr8 was, which won best AU at AFD ;)

The EB will be up for sale, to fund this, unfortunately I cant keep them both  I know Ill regret selling it but money is tight.

Bought a nice Alpine Head unit for the AU, put it in today. Looks and sounds sweet!
Got it rego'd, gave it a wash, ordered a coil, leads, fuel filter, and an ODB2 scan tool.
Cleaned up the interior and started putting some FatMAT in the boot to shut it up.

Reeeeallly needs to go on LPG soon, running on petrol is insane! Even if it wasnt drinking fuel, 90$ per fill up is not on my to-do list.
Have got an in-date tank and a pile of mixers/converters for an AU, and a bunch of under-dash wiring from an AU XR6 & XR8. As long as the gas fitter is alright with running the line and giving me a plate (and checking it over of course) then Im in business.

Tossing up between a set of superlow lovells / koni reds, or a set of xyz coilovers right now. XYZ for the adjustability, lovell/koni for the ride. Decisions!

PS: What do people with AUs do to secure one of those single din radio converters? I'm not overly happy with how if shifts around. Wouldn't mind screwing it / securing it into the dash somehow.

I've had that in two of my AU's now, works a tread and is very solid.

Thats what I have, its not going to fall out but It needs to be screwed in. Itll shift around about 2-5mm at the moment in places!
i.e. when you pull a USB plug out of the stereo the fascia moves out slightly and I have to push it back in.

So after cleaning the fuel rail & injectors the AU has been running much better. Going to buy another set of injectors though, can still feel it stumbling at low rpm. Been getting 550-600km out of 57 litres of 91.
Also going to put an EL fuel rail in, the AU one just keeps rusting inside. Apparently it's a common problem with AUs and BAs?
I munged the fuel reg holder in the AU one anyway, trying to get the reg out to clean it again.

Other than that it's going great, so good to have air con these last few days, some tint and it's so good to drive long distance! AUs are a pleasure to drive in my opinion. The xr6 seats are so good.
My gf broke up with me after new years so I've been trying to save a bit of cashola to finish off the GT and all the other projects I have around, its good to have so much stuff to do to take the mind off things. Have already taken the GT out to dads and welded up a hole in the roof (the aerial hole) because I dont want it there and am not going to have a radio at this stage. Just a CD/MP3 player hidden. If I need an aerial I'll get a small one and stick it on the rear window out of sight.

Keen to get some low on in the AU, and some decent extractors & high flow cat when I get some spare cash. Im interested to see how the fuel economy and power changes with extractors, Ive never had them on a car before (except my xr8 which was a bit hard to tell ha ha)

Sold the EB to my dad, we're going to chuck it in storage and give it to my little sister for her first car. Will be good, am taking the wheels & steering wheel off it though. I need some money back from it, sold it way cheap.

Cheers guys, hope all your new years were decent! :drinks2:

Sure! I did it myself, bought the 20$ rebuild kit from ebay

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FUEL-INJECTO ... 3388d9b706

The kit is o-rings, pintle caps and the little filters at the top of the injector. The filters in mine were so full of crap I'm suprised any fuel could get through!

The way to get the filter out is put a screw in the vise (the screw i used is an EA-ED scuff plate screw, has a course thread, and fits pretty perfectly in the filter)
Gently screw the top of the injector onto the screw - NOTE dont go too far in, it will break the filter and put crap into your actual injector, but far enough so it will hold. Jimmy the filter out when the screw has enough purchase, will need quite a bit of persuasion.

Once the filter is out I cleaned inside the top of the injector with some carby cleaner to make sure there was no crap left. Then place the new filter in and gently tap it in with a small hammer (just in your hand). Doesnt take much.

For the pintle cap, they can be annoying. You can use sidecutters and cut them off, I ended up not cutting them and using a claw hammer to pull them off, worked quite well! Then the new one clips on. EA-EL injectors need more care putting the pintle cap on, but AU ones there is less to break at the end of the injector so its alright ;)

O-rings are pretty self explanatory. Just put the one on the pintle cap end on before the new cap.

Most of the time the injectors will just be blocked in the filter, or o-rings will leak. Serious cases like mine will need an ultrasonic clean from someone like CVE. I assume he would put a rebuild kit through them at the same time as ultrasonic cleaning!

sweet as, i actually googled it after that post lol.
the only thing i would do differently is use a 9 volt battery to power the injector open and run some carby cleaner through them.

i'm hoping this will be the magic cure for my setup as well, still using a fair bit of fuel with the barra setup, although it looks like i will crack 500ks to a tank if i'm very polite lol.

i might be a tight ass and see how much cve will charge only for ultrasonic cleaning.

Hahaha not a chance. The AU has done 130000km, everything is tight as, doesnt even need a barra ;)

Also cleaned up the AU the other day, gave it a proper wax. Came up soooooooo good. Super awesome paint and the colour is amazing in the sun! Will post some pics tomorrow!

Yep keeping the AU, will be going on gas and dailying (albeit very nice dailying) as I have to drive 150km a day for work still. Commando style, but not as hardcore lol. I live in the same sort of area.

The FG will be going in the shed with the other GTs, probably drive it once a week hopefully! Might get a fair workout in the first while because, you know, I WON A FLIPPING GT FALCON. HOLY HECK.
For once I dont have to bust my arse to get one of these nice cars. Its a pretty amazing feeling!

Have also updated the ol' sig haha

just thinking, its a shame ford didn't pit more effort into the interiors of the newer GTs, looking at the EL it shares nothing similar to other models.
still, they're nice dont get me wrong lol, would have made them that bit more special i reckon.

I agree misk, the GT-P has the upgraded seats, and the R spec has piano black surrounds, but its not even on the same level as the EL GT. Its basically an XR6 inside lol.

Someone put one of these engines in an EL GT? Would be perfect.

Wow well done man!! Good to see you want to keep it and it can live with your other GT's lol.

I think you'll struggle to only drive it once a week  They're such a nice car.. you'll soon forget about EL GTs!

New injectors in the AU today. Much better, have to reset the ECU though as its obviously getting too much fuel now. Can smell it!

Image

Gave the AU a bit of a wash, vacuum, and interior clean today, came up reasonably clean. Need to get a steam cleaner, the arm pads on the door trims have a bit of dirt on them.
Took a few pics of it down near the lake:
