if you open one up and look and feel around imagining air (or water if it help you) running through you will easily figure out what needs to be done ;)

this is the most obvious area
it hard to tell what i've actually done, but if you compare it to a stock BBM its easy to see
will easily make a difference. its shocking in standard form lol
i didn't go all out, theres still much more that can be done

looks good misk, glad you got the A/C sorted. XH should use the EF/EL K-frame and mounts, so did you have to modify the brackets on the block? Every other one I have seen just has the reinforcement cut out of the front of the bonnet for clearance to the rocker cover. I don't know if that is with the mounts modified as well though

i was going to mod the mounts but couldn't get my head around it without seeing what i needed to mod and why. so i'm using BA brackets and i'm just gonna see if it fits and iif not now much i need to cut out and i'll box it. my current bonnet is bent and fucked up anyway so i'll use it as a 'test' bonnet lol and i'll mod the mounts when i cbf. just wanted the engine in cause the cars beein sitting there for 3 days

I hate the feeling of having a car I cant use. Shouldn't be too hard to sort it out, a lot of the other ones I have seen don't seem to have major issues getting the clearance, just a lot of fiddling around. Hopefully it goes nice and smooth for you with as little **** ups as possible. Shouldn't take you too long, you seem to be pretty good at solving the issues anyway mate.

so i got it 99% complete, just have to do tailshaft and radiator.
a few little things to mention
the power steering line has to bent a bit to work, just have to test fit a few times but was piss easy
the clutch cable has no where to go on the BA sump, so had to cut out a little section
throttle cable bracket has no where to go, so i just tech screwed a little bracket i made up to the coil cover
i decided to have the leads come out the back of the coil cavoer. 2 leads are too shart so come out the side at the very back but the rest come out the back. i just had to make the back of the cover flat instead of how it comes down a bit like on the sides and it all fits perfectly.

i'm going to fit the LS1 throttle body which has the throttle cable coming out the other side of the BBM so no point in welding or whatever.
so it starts and runs which i'm very happy about! but it still has a slight miss in the low rpm :/ the only sensors that have stayed are the TPS, ISC and MAP, everything else was changed with the engine. so i'll try fitting another TPS and i think i may have fitted the BA MAP as they look the same as AU3, not sure if they have the same values though.

anyway heres some pics.
in the end it was a very easy conversion, i wouldnt even call it a conversion lol was just an engine swap, it went straight in with only 2 plugs needing to changed in the loom.

Good work man, and good on you for documenting the process also (even if the pics are dodgy, haha).

Not that easy for me to imagine that unfortunately! Thanks for the pics though.

lol if you run your fingers along where the air needs to go, you'll see that theres a few places that could have an impact on the air flowing through it.

and yeah, sorry, the camera on my phone is fucked!

for out mate you manage make it look so easy well done for getting it done so quick seems like one day you've just pulled the old motor then the next the new motor is in and running already. should go pretty good with the manual behind it in a ute I reckon. defiantly looks good in there

lol this was a slow effort compare to normal, but i made sure to clean shit and do everything properly this time. weould have been alot quicker if i had a rattle gun and someone to help, but i'm not complaining :)

i also can't do shit day after day like i used to, the second day i did't do anything til 6pm cause i had to rest most of the day lol.

but cause i wasn't changing the ECU it was a straight forward swap.
i have to sort out a small issue with the aircon compressor, i'd much rather use a BA one but can't find one locally and dont have a ride to the wreckers. so will sort something out.

thanks for the kind words though!

can you just get some longer leads to fix the 2 that are a bit short? I must have missed it but are you running coil pack? Are you using the BA power steering switch (in the line) or the XH (in the rack) one? You do some good work mate, keep it up

kev did my sump but i'm not sure if he willl do another for others lol, not cause its me but cause its a bit of a **** of a job.

dj i will be getting 2 longer leads, yes, but ive got another coil cover so if i need to ill just mod that and swap it over, but it should be fine.
and yes i'm using AU coil pack cause its got the AU ECU. and i'm using ths switch in the rack cause thats what it was running before, no need to change it.

well its all now 100% complete (minus the bonnet still lol) and it idles and runs great. haven't taken it for a drive yet but just moved it up and down the driveway (was a car behind me in the way) and its sooo nice driving a car with a standard cam again haha.

just have a tiny water leak from the o-ring where the pipe joins the water pump so will sort that out tomorrow. i'll top it up and take it for a test drive shortly though.

i ended up making the bracket for the EL aircon compressor work so thats a conus.
the BA mounts are the same as AU except they're alloy. the bonnet will need to be trimmed but my bonnet needs to be replaced anyway. i'mm mod my spare engine mount brackets and swap them over when i cbf.

to everyone that helped out along the way, thanks heaps! kev is really the only one that helped me with anything physical but there i did ask a few questions along the way, so, cheers!

well with standard AU map it has about even power as what the sohc was running with the 1521a lol
can't wait to put some timing into it and trim the fuel maps.
sounds crazy, not like any BA+ n/a i've heard, but will sound alot betting with extractors.

So lemme get this straight - you're running a BA motor with AU ECU, wiring and coil pack? Didn't FTG Salvage try that a few years ago and fail?

yeah but they didnt know what they were doing, lol. im pretty sure they didnt cut the prongs off the cam so wouldnt have run right. its pretty common conversion now i did it about a year ago there is a thread i put on the ford forums step by step what needs to be done etc. i took the idea from the thread that FTG had about doing it and worked out how to make it work properly

The fuel and spark systems are still au, the computer does not know the engine now has 2 cams, they are locked anyway. As far as the ecu is concerned you just put a higher efficiency head on which will throw the tune out.

cut the bonnet as least as i could, well i tried to cut it as least as possible, but i could have cut less. anyway, its really not much at all and the bonnet closes no worries. i'll box it up when i cbf :)
also heres a quick vid after the better was disconnected and its cold, so idle is a little funny but is better now.
this has to be the smoothest falcon engine i've ever owned. its also by far the best mod i've ever done.
will take me a long time to get over how good it is for the money i spent and i haven't even tuned it yet!

Will there be any problems with rego/engine documentation with vic roads?
You going to lodge the forms for engine swap?

There wouldn't be problems at VicRoads if you just lodge it as an engine swap and don't say anything else. They don't know what every motor looks like. It'll have trouble if you try do it with a turbo.

I'll sell you a turbo manifold for $120. If you want lines and shit I'll do you a good deal. I've got everything lol. 3 of everything even.

when i did mine in qld the rwc guy just said its a falcon 4ltr in a falcon, and when i went to qt they just asked if i had swapped the motor because the numbers were different and just said yes that was it. end of the day its 90% the same block with just a twin cam head. because you use the same emissions and fuel system not alot changes. other states might be more anal

yeah even if they wanted to see the ECU its an AU item so really its still an e-series setup. still EEC and the ecu doesn't know theres 2 cams on it now, but even still, none of thats illegal.

sunny, i'll be in touch when i have the mulah :)
and i agree justin, hopefully people realise that for $200-$300 you can fit one to an EF with no other mods and make it so much nicer to drive.
i cant get over how much smoother the motor is.

I hope you don't get someone at vic roads who knows what they are doing

XH's were rated to 148kw stock - Ba 182kw - so you are above the 20% power increase, which means you have to get a VASS cert.
And it was not a factory fitted option to the vehicle.
In order for the engine to meet emissions it needs to be run using a stock unmodified matching ECU.

Having said that none of my cars meet these standards.
Vic laws suck, hope they give you no hassles.
