Stav - Have you tried one of the regular electronic shift kits or just the one I showed you back in the day? They are a lot less harsh and might better suit.

I only used it because my box would still slip with the conventional electronic shift kit.

Hey Dan ..that shift kit was a monster..I loved it. I saw the other shift kits when they were a new idea. I think I was the first to come up with the variable resistor idea. I have to say that while the box felt different that it was not faster. I think I am after more precise changes at the chnge of a gear.

All in the name of science i have looked at my maual and the changes need certain solenoids to be activated and deactivated for things to happen. As these are electronically controlled from my technical skill level I am better off intercepting every solenoid with an off on switch to see what will produce a good result. No one has done this before that I know of and what the heck ive gotten used to changing blown gearboxes every other year..heheh

Didn't I just say that? lol.
It has been done before, although not with a row of switches. Stockstandard had a valvebody hooked to his PC with a program setup to run solenoids between gears, which could be easily adapted to something like a MegaShift.

The hard part will be working out the timing for the solenoids, they're pretty sensetive to the timing. I looked into fitting one to my car, but blowing V8 BTR's doesn't appeal to me, as I'd imagine a couple of boxes would die before you get it right. Having a shift timed .2 of a second off, or having one solenoid wired in wrong would spell trouble. Maybe it would be better to experiment on stock old boxes till the setup is fairly close to right?

Mine lasted 100,000kms on my old box until it died at 350,000kms from a split cooler hose. I have it on my new(er) box too, I've had no problems with mine. Of course, I'd MUCH rather a proper mechanical shift kit (cough SLOXR8 cough)

yeah mechanical shift kits probably last longer, alot more expensive tho

my mechanic mate specializes in auto's if any one is after prices and stuff. he is in dandenone.

prefers chevs and holdens tho, never the less builds tough auto's

If you wire up the wrong wires, it won't blow up your car or anything, it'll just put the auto into Limp mode (3rd & reverse only) until you fix what you've fked.

ok well towards the end of the yr im getting my trans serviced..
i asked my dad if they could fit a shift kit and he said they probs could 4 around 220-280 depending ont he tightness..
do u think i should just wait?

Why not do both? Spend like $5 on an electronic one for now, and then pull it out when you get a mechanical shift kit done. $220-280 is a mad price.

Commando..i think I found out what was wrong with my auto.It went in under warranaty the other day ..it needed 1.5 litres of oil. No leaks btw. No oil in water...I think they stuffed up but the car feels different..hehe oil helps!! Will know for sure in a week or so.

Well, since you've been commuting and drag racing on a box that's low on oil (how much do they need to fill? 6L?), you should keep an eye on it as it's probably lost a lot of life... Possibly a future claim outside warranty time? (if that makes sense?)

I reckon they need about 12 litres including the convertor and the factory oil cooler.

Does the box have a dipstick?

The box is one of the ford au jobbies with no dipstick. 2 Goes down the 1/4 and snail driving most of the time...Hope it doesnt die that quick!! It sure does feel alot firmer on gearchanges. Hopefully the you beaut clutches and kevlar bands havent worn to buggery!!

It was down 1 1/2 litres. I reckon they didnt account for my big transmission cooler.It is almost as big as the radiator.

I dont think theres anything damamged or worn..if I put the boot in on many occasions it kicks down hard then chirps into next gear and the tbar goes from 4th to 3rd from the force all by itself!! I like this car stuff too much hehe

Guys thanks heaps for your help..The prob was the inhibitor switch. It would be nice for the auto boxes to shift precisely in the au btr box...I have also found as commando mentioned that when floored the box gets to 5800 rpm when I shift up at 5000 rpm.This means that the response from the computer or box is too slow. I am going to try to find out how to make shifts as close to instant as possible or to make the car shift closer to the desired rpm.. I am going to get cracking!!Keep you guys in the loop and oh one other thing OED ill pm you tommorow.

Stav, as mentioned earlier, for a quick fix you'll need an electronic shift kit (mild is all you need to quicken up the shifts - without the harsh shifts)

Or, spend a few hundred on a mechanical shift kit
