Mate of a mates brother has an LS1 tonner, un intercooled vortech on 8psi, auto, 320rwkw.
He took the stock tray off and now has a flat one made out of plywood, capped with aluminium angle.
I haven't been for a spin in it yet, Max/SLOLS1 has.
Apparently it's an interesting ride

Moral of the story?
No LS1, no care.

I was thinking they would have probably sold the ute for a bit more, because of all the tradie's gear on it.
Those canopies, and ladder racks, etc aren't cheap at all.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to get a stocko ute, without all that gear?

Postby Rollin » June 24th, 2008, 8:29 pm

Mitch - the alloytec isn't that bad with a set of extractors, decent exhaust and a tune in it - the tune is the most important thing though! IIRC a guy on performanceforums had an alloytech190 with the above mods, pre-tune made 180rwhp, post-tune made 220!!!

The best piece of advice I can give you though, is service the crap out of it. The 15,000km intervals are far too long for anyone that isn't doing daily trips from perth to darwin. 10,000km minimum, but I'd do 7,500 oil and filter changes just to be sure.

I've lost count of the number of aloytechs we have had at work with noisy cam phasers, low/no oil pressure, noisy lifters etc because people don't service them enough/at all.

If you're tall, don't even consider the XH.
I couldn't drive one for more than 10 mins.
But i found my old AU2 XR8 cheap, sold it cheap too though.

Maybe a AU Pursuit, perhaps get the stroker, they're around 20k or so these days... :)

lol true. I'm 6"4' and struggle to fit in an XH (my mate Brendan has one). My left knee sort of ends up threaded between the steering column and handbrake.
