I want to get a credit card to buy stuff from overseas through my paypal account. Some places arent accepting E cheques where it debits my bank account and takes ages to happen so I need a credit card.

I wont use it for anything else. I dont plan to buy anything that I cant pay off straight away.

Is there a good card out there that has no fees? Do I want a mastercard, visa? What options are out there?

if its just to buy shit off internet, id reccomend gettin a debit card, works same way, but only takes funds out that are already in your account, so you can leave it empty until u need/want to buy something, and then transer money in, also a bit more secure, someone cant steal ur card details online and use it if theres no funds on it. but u still use it as a credit card

Bopo prepaid credit cards are alright too, good solution if you don't really intend to use it a heap.

Also I wouldn't recommend keeping any decent amount of cash on paypal at any one time either, because they're not classed as a bank and therefore not under the same rules, meaning they can suspend your account at any time for no reason and freeze your money.

I got an ANZ Visa debit, as John already said, Commonwealth don't do debit cards the dirty knts.

But you can just link your Paypal account to your savings account and access the funds that way.

Thats what Ive got now but Paypal has been giving me a message lately asking for credit card details as some sellers dont accept E-cheques. E-Cheques from your bank account take a few days to clear and arent instant enough for instant payments.

Ill look into getting an ANZ account and visa debit card. Is there fees for that kind of junk?

At the start of this year I paid off my credit cards and changed from the CBA to another bank that offers debit cards for primary accounts. That's all I have now and I couldn't be happier. Renting money sucks the big one!

There is a few credit cards available that could help ya.

I have a no-annual fee card (for emergencies ). http://www.commbank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/no-annual-fee/. I also have a NAB Visa debit.

Haven't used it yet, no credit card is really worth it for online purchases IMO. Debit would be the way to go, even if it means opening a new account.

I just got an awards VISA from the Comm Bank. No fees cos of being a student. 55 days interest free. 2 for 1 points so when I use it for my gas conversion, it'll contribute points towards my Qantas frequent flyer card that can then be used on electronics, whitegoods, airfares.
Seemed like a good way to go, havent used it yet lol

Use it for exactly what you are talking about
Con is no interest free period. Pro is no fees and no homo awards that you need 500,000,000 points to buy a toaster.
I buy something, and pretty much transfer the cash into it straight away.

lol cheque is in the mail. I reckon I could spend $1k a year at Summit or Jegs. :S

Virgin and HSBC offer good deals on their credit cards. I just have a normal credit card with ANZ, no flashy features/points/rewards scheme etc. Do a search, there are a couple of helpful sites that compare most cards.

As for debit cards, I know a couple of people who have had problems using them as a credit card and I don't think you can get a credit rating using them. Someone can clarify. But that would be the only reason I suggest a credit card - to get a credit rating for the future when you decide to buy a house. They're not a problem if you keep the credit limit low [maybe half what the bank would give you] and pay it off before each month's end.

Yeah that would be more betterer but getting a credit rating it always good anyway. Ill just cap the limit at $2k or something so I can always pay it off each month.

My parents never had credit cards or borrowed money before they bought the house we live in now approx 8 years ago. They had no credit history and it was a knt for them to get a home loan.

Operation house will happen in the next year or so it would be good to prove I can pay sht off.

I'd recomend another account for paypal that isn't your main one, paypal have a habit of taking money out of your account on there own accord

yeah I cancelled my paypal linking to my savings account.
I had an unauthorised transaction on my paypal, they put my account on restricted access so no more funds could be transferred, I just had to email photo ID and a bill, and they took it off, I got the money back within a week.
So in closing, in my experience, they aren't the massive monster all those crazy "i make a living off ebay" people say they are.

Dan, I had the problem of Paypal asking for credit card details too, at the time I just entered the details of my Mrs' card (coz I don't have one) and paid for my item that way. After about 2 weeks, I removed her credit card details from my Paypal account and have never had a problem since.

Also, my money gets transferred over straight away, never had any problems.

Dont u hate that. I got a 7.5K limit got it reduced to 5k. My mum opened my credit statement by mistake, she went mental "WHAT FUCKING 5G limit" im like yea i spent "2.5k" mainly on flights to and from perth I was upto 4 lol. I think she passed out when I said "I was orginally 7.5k".

The business creidtcard has a 20k limit. So does my parents

We mainly use AMEX cards at work because we earn shitloads from some partnership we have with them. I used to manage 100+ cards for employees until I got promoted a month or so ago. The cards cant be used at anywhere near as many places as mastercard and visa, we have 2 mastercards as back ups for the entire organisation for when the amex's cant be used.

Whenever we ask for a new card we ask for a $10k limit and nearly every time they give it a $1,000,000 limit. We have a corporate spend limit of $1,000,000 in total so they get confused

They arent too bad to deal with though when you spend $300k a month with them. I imagine it would suck more if you were just a regular person.

When I worked for IBM they got AMEX cards I beleive.

And one of the companys I contract too, they also use Amex to book our flights, accommodation and stuff. Much easier, admin ladys just log onto a site, got all flights, accommodation etc all at one site dont need to **** around going to serveral different sites also makes linking flights easier.

Also beats the hell out of fuel cards using a creidt card. Can use it at any fuel station and as long as pay within 55days no interest.
