Which ignition module is this?

Righto.
I'm not real familiar with Fords but I,m making a hot ignition setup for a certain other kind of car. I want to find out which model a particular Falcon ignition module is used on so I can buy one. All I know is:

1/ it bolts onto the distributor (NOT remote mounted)
2/ has pins on the the end *and* the side
3/ works with a Hall effect distributor - not magnetic impulse one
4/ is apparently grey colour not the black version
5/ pin 4 goes to the start switch or starter solenoid - not to the computer
6/ some people refer to it as the push-start module
7/ the module controls the dwell - not the computer.

I have the mad skillz needed to make it work in my application so no worries there.
I think it might be an XF multipoint EFI one. Here's a pic.

EA onwards? I thought they had the dwell controlled by the computer, not the module.
Also -> 5/ pin 4 goes to the start switch or starter solenoid - not to the computer
I might have to go to the library this morning and have a look in one of their car manuals for a wiring diagram.
I'm thinking this module might be the same as a Motocraft DY425.

The wire that goes to the starter is to lock the timing at base while cranking.

What application are you using it for? TFI modules are a pain in the arse, I would try steer clear of it if possible.

Yep. That's exactly what I want.
In the later model versions of this module (after XF) that look the same, this wire goes off to the computer and it has a scaled down version of the coil primary voltage spike so the computer can see if things are working properly.

I want to see about grafting it onto a VN V8 to see if I can get better results than the horrid Bosch module they have.
Yeah, I read those modules have had a bit of a problem with heat but I imagine that is mostly because they are already attached to a distributor at engine temperature. I'd be remote mounting it.

I think they are also used in EFI XFs? Definitely also used in V8s. There are some slight differences in the modules, mostly to do with base timing and starting timing I think.

Dwell is controlled by the TFI EA-ED+EL. The ECU calculates ignition advance and provides it via the SPOUT. With no signal it will default to 10deg (enough to run the car).

If you are putting this into a different car you may want to look into the US standalone EDIS systems, which run almost the same as the TFI in terms of inputs but are multi-coil.

HTH

Really? I read different somewhere else but no matter, i won't be using one. As long as the XF EFI one does dwell and has the wire that tells it to do base timing I'll be happy.
