Couldnt find my previous post...

Anyway surely built motor ready to handle 20psi plus, big turbo off the side, built auto with hi-stall and transbrake love, decent
diff to handle the power, stock suspension (or 90/10s) and semis would get you close? I wouldn't have thought it was exactly
rocket science (no offence to hiboost or anyone else who's run a 10 or better- cos I still think thats a big achievement)...

Cant compare VL to Eseries either..

1) they had a factory turbo option
2) they have been in development and had people pushing the boundaries for 20years or so
3) the owners actually seem to love owning them... Compare this with eseries owners who are forever saying they're shitters
etc or who often upgrade as soon as they can afford to. VL's are like cult cars to their owners.

i dont get why people wont share info on what/how their car is setup... why not help people out rather than them having to waste money on r+d stuff?
unless its a workshop car... so they might want to hide their secrets or something?
Biggest problem with B series cars is they're too heavy, everything would hold up easier (rear end) if they weren't so fat. and even the 10sec daily ones would cost a packet to keep running, built autos and irs wont last forever.

A guy near my work has a vn or vp turbo v6, has about 300rwkw and has run a few 10sec passes. cost him $8500 so far! sleeper spec but its quick!

all the horse power in the world means nothing if you cant convert it to the ground

stall, auto, drag slicks, diff gears, suspension, transbrake in 300 rwk will do a better time then a manual slammed on 19s with 350 rwk

my 2 cents

I never had anyone help me out... It took me 4 years to get to where I am with R&D, I'm not gonna tell people what I've learnt an shit.. Some ask advice I giv it, yet they still think they know better :) Good luck to them..
Why should I spend time an money on R&D an share it with u? Id love to see u spend cash an R&D an share it with freeloaders??

EF ECTIV, I wish it was as simple as bolting a turbo, building an engine, diff an trans an expect to run 10s.. You make it sound so easy..

no snyperEB havnt ran it down the strip yet. Im only going on the presumptions on people running less power and a smaller stalli who run consistant 10's. Hopefully i go to caulder next few weeks so i can finally title the car with the slip.

If you ask HiBoost in person he's quite helpful, i can understand not wanting to publish everything on the internet.
When the first BA motors into 'other cars' conversions were done, no one wanted to spill the beans on whats actually required..
they'd offer some tips but no one outlined step by step what you need to do.
this is no different.

Re: Discussion on running 10s - fordmods SA division

Postby Rollin » June 5th, 2010, 6:08 pm

So I've just spent about 5 minutes with a few online calculators to get a very rough idea. Seems you need about 540rwhp in a 1600kg falcon (1600kg on the line with driver, fuel, extra weight of turbo/cooler blah blah blah) to run a high 10, and you'll need to do about 125mph to get there.

Gear your car to run at least 125mph - take into account your tyre size, diff and box ratios, you'd want to be just past peak power in 3rd gear as you cross the line.

Get some slicks, otherwise you'll need to do a supra and run a huge trap speed to compensate.

Stall is a tricky one - too much and you'll turn the tyres, to little and you'll waste precious 10ths - no doubt hiboost could give you some pointers there, though I expect the optimum stall speed will change depending on your particular engine setup.

It also seems that you'll need about 20 less hp for every 50kg you can shed, so go on a diet, ditch the interior, empty the washer bottle and go to the toilet before you hit the strip (probably doing 10s makes you go to the toilet anyway, but most people prefer to do it in a house rather than the drivers seat).

You'd be better off doing the drivetrain first then adding more engine until it ran the times you wanted.

If I was going to try and build a 10 second falcon I'd get an EA GL and put a 3.08 or 3.27 EB diff in it and a BF motor with a 6 speed auto. The stock engine and auto would hang together I reckon, you'd just need to get a good cooler and mod/swap the turbo (What's a BF turbo good for with flapper mods and a harder wastegate spring?).

On a side note it'd be interesting to see what a good (stock SOHC) 400rwhp falcon can do with good slicks and a well matched diff/auto/stall.

My car managed 1.8s 60', 12.3@114.7 with 3.27 gears, street 235s and a 6 speed with a really good track, and a dyno'd 400rwhp. I'd like to think I'm quite fast on the shifts but there's definitely better times to be had with an auto, and a car that isn't as heavy - Mine has an engine oil cooler, 2 12" subs in an MDF enclosure and two decent amps, as well as being an ED, which is obviously heavier than an EA.
Image

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

yeah, come to think of it he seems pretty helpful :) and im not saying everyone needs to try and inform everyone about everything all the time. was just as in if you asked someone about they're setup and they wouldn't tell you cos its a special secret :?

wish my car ran 10s :( but daily driver + limited cash... maybe one day!

Where are you getting a 1350kg falcon? Where are you going to get a 1350kg falcon with a TT windsor in it?

the lightest falcon made was the xe gl at 1320kg. (i think) you would need extensive use of composites {ie, aint gonna happen) to run a tt 347 in one and stay close to that weight.

EZY10s guy?

I'm taking my name off that list, i'm just some bloke who's built his car in his garage with his mates tryna give it a go ahah, compared to those workshop backed cars! My car is nothing compared to the cars in that list!

EF EFCTIV: I reckon you could probably give it a go!

No reeeal interest in 10's. I would love an 11ish pass. I did for a little bit but looking at what has to be done I really dont wanna spend a whole lot more on the car other than getting more power maybe 270rwkw I would be really happy with and realiable. Its frustrating seeing it sitting in the shed!

haha I wish... Maybe once I graduate at the end of the year, buy a house then start building a proper motor and get a
monster turbo... I do plan on getting the same guys who put Sammut's motor together to do mine, or maybe even
rajab  I will use someone who's got the run on the board though...

Until then no chance.... I do use the same tuner as Rod, and used the same shop Allfast to sort out my auto and
converter... Maybe there's hope :D
