Cheers guys, I'm glad things are looking on the up. Hopefully I can land a solid perm job before my contract runs out, then I can start spending on this thing again! Although, my best friend that I live with just landed an awesome girlfriend, so it's made me miss having one too. Been over a year now, I'm gunna get back into it. I went speed dating a few weeks ago, nothing eventuated, but I got comped a free night cos the bloke who hosted it got mugged on his way home and lost all the details. So I might use that soon.

This is more than a thread about your XR8l; it's a thread about your life, employment, relationship status and all the dramas in between. You could almost make a TV series out of it. I wouldn't watch it though, or maybe I would for the roll-ons in to 2nd gear.

LOL!! Sunny, you're the best! I don't give a shit, my threads would be like two pages long if it wasn't for the bitching and moaning. Admit it, you'd watch it, would be better than 90% of the shit on TV these days anyway. Skating past old people in 2nd gear would make some sweet TV, although it would be let down by the fat chicks.

It would be like a current affair or something though - a huge beat up with promises of epic skids and crazy driving, but in the end it would just show the same small 1-2 chirp two times an episode...

So, looks like I have landed a decent full time job again! Got told I should have a letter of offer in front of me tomorrow! :) Will be good to be back on a decent wage again, hopefully this one lasts. Plus it means I don't need to sell this thing anymore.

On to the car front, the red baron is still running strong! I don't know exactly what Tim did to repair the blower, but I think it feels even better than before! Loves smashing the limiter in first, and sometimes even second, though not exactly something I should be doing frequently. :P The drive line is mad sloppy though, still doesn't like getting around in low speed traffic. The clutch is rooted, pretty sure the uni's are also. It has new IRS and diff bushes in it, so I can't think what else it could be? Other than that, just loving the boost!

Had a mad day out yesterday at Calder! It was the first time on the trach with the supercharger, and I was much more consistent than I thought I would be. Pulled a 13.8 first run out on shitty 17's, and ran about four or five more runs pulling between 13.8 and 13.9. My fastest run on street tyres was the 13.5 above, then chucked Holmsy's 255 MT's on! Only had two runs with them, first one I shit myself with the amount of grip on take off! Still managed 13.8, then slipped the clutch a bit on the second and pulled the 13.4! I must say, with my lack of skill and worn clutch, I'm pretty stoked!

I kinda thought he was joking till he actually drove off in it, then I had no choice! Clutch did hold up ok actually, though I didn't rev much past 3k on take off, especially with the MT's. Still needed to drive home!

Nothing to report really, other than its still not broken! 8-) Oh, bought another set of Toyo Teo's, 2nd set in just over a year. :banghead: Been busy with my new job, back in the city again. So this thing is now officially a weekender, and still going strong! I'm even thinking of pushing a bit more out of it, in the ways of a water/meth injection kit and maybe a smaller pulley on the blower! Wouldn't mind doing an intercooler, if only for wank factor, but cbf with pipe work. So I'll need to sort out a better way of cooling the belt in the unit itself, I think Tim from Raptor has a decent cooling unit though. Anyway, pics from that Ford day at Calder:

Haha, thanks man. Yep, had a couple of passes with the MT’s on there. We had like a 15 minute argument about whether they would fit or rub or what not! Turns out, fit perfectly! I was of the same thought as you, but surprisingly it managed to turn them good as on pre-stage, even in 2nd gear! That last pick is after testing to see if the tyres would rub the guards on launch in the car park. Gripped up huge on the track though, actually caught me by surprise on the first run, bogged it heaps! Only got one other run with them, and slipped the clutch out, got me my PB for the day. I’d love to go out again on a smaller set of MT’s, a 12 would be epic!

I can’t remember, like 20-25psi I think? There was no problem with grip at all. Apparently my time was down a bit because the tyres are too tall? I think it has something to do with bigger rolling diameter effectively raising my final gear ratio. I’m still running the stock 3.45 gears, so smaller tyres would shorten that a bit I guess. Also, I can’t drive! :P

they look too big to me for your setup. Prob def bogging it down with those, why not go the standard 235 size? thats what ive seen most commo guys run on stockies.. i got them too no problems with traction with stall and gears too. Something to try i guess

I had 235's MT, they were awesome. There 26" tall as well, pretty close to standard 17's I think.

Haha, how funny was it Pete! I had like zero experience with track tyres before that day, so thinking they were sticky I just dropped the clutch and the bagged! They actually aren’t mine, Holmsy had them on his EL, but swapped for smaller ones Scott had. So we just chucked them on for shits, worked out ok in the end. I just rocked up with a worn set of 234/45/17 Falkens on my stock rims on the back, but it was spinning those too easily off the line. If I ever got a set of my own, they would most likely be 235’s anyway. Still love to add more power regardless!

It looked good with the e series stockies on it.
That Craig guy with the au raptor charged xr8 picked up a fair bit putting water/math kit.
Infact at the drags he dropped .5ish as the water/meth pump lost power and trap speed was down a bit.
Cheers josh.

Yeah man, Craig's car is pretty much my go to for what else I should do to mine! I'll wait until my tax is done, and if I get a nice bonus I'll pick up a kit and organise another tune with Dion once fitted. I'll have to get a better cooler unit off Tim while I'm at it too. You ever worked with a water/meth kit at all Josh? I can't imagine it would be super difficult to fit up?

Thanks braad, the drags was some good laughs! It was awesome to watch my times keep going down all day too! I don’t think the water/meth cools the supercharger down or anything, I think it’s more for cooler air going into the inlet. Plus I think the meth boosts the octane or something too? I’m not sure, all I know is it equals moar powah!

Although, I would happily give all this up in a heartbeat to get married to the right girl!

The idea is that it vaporize when put under the pressure and heat the charger produces causing a phase change from liquid to vapor which has a cooling effect on the hot air around it lowering the temp of the air entering your cylinders.

It's pretty cool :D

That's awesome, although still doesn't help me from melting belts in the blower itself. Need to sort that shit out too.

Hahaha, that be the dude Jules (Samuel L Jackson) is speaking to when is says that quote in Pulp Fiction! Yet another poor attempt at humour on my behalf.

Well, yesterday was a complete fvcking waste of time!! :banghead: Got up nice and early about 6:30am, had a quick shower and jumped in the car. Filled her up with premo, bought some breakfast for the road, and took off. Stopped once on the way for a smoko, and got up to Winton in just under 2.5 hours. The line to sign up to drive was massive, heaps of people turned up, waited about half an our. Then the wait for scrutineering was about another 20 minutes. Which meant I missed the first single drivers session, then had to wait for the first passanger session to finish.
Finally got out onto the track, and was loving it. For all of 5 laps, then PING! Massive loss of power, but still drove, yep I know what happened. Pulled off the track, into the carpark, oppened the bonnet and confirmed, another demolished fvcking internal supercharger belt!! Seriously, 5 god damn hours driving for not even 10 minutes of track time! Soab stupid thing, just my luck! The only good to come out of the story is that I managed to get up there and back on one tank, just. Did the first 190kms in just a quarter of a tank.
So the blower is off again already. Need to apply something to curb this stupid belt issue. It must be heat, I can't think of anything else that would have done it? I doubt its revs, cos it saw the limiter almost every time I drove it. Must be somethig about a track, cos its been nothing but fine on the street. Although it survived a day at Calder ok? I got a case of the Huss-es too, jumped on carsales looking for a replacement! :banghead:
