How to tell a real sprint to a fake?

Postby xr6wpn » July 21st, 2008, 2:44 pm

What are the main points to search for when looking for a real sprint apart from the intake manifold? Could you option sunroofs?

I didn't think sprints had colour-coded bumpers & side-strips like Ghias? I thought they were grey?

Bodykit (except for wing) looks Sprint-y... A bit difficult to tell from the photo though.

The inserts in the side moulds/bumpers are black on all Sprints from factory, that would be the quickest way to tell before going into interior, suspension and engine differences.

Why don't you get the current owner to call 13FORD and get a Verification Letter which will state the vehicle's authenticity?

It's free and easy, he should get the letter within 4-5 working days of his call if he faxes in the details that Ford will need.

Thanks for all the info guys, i will get him to get the verification letter to prove that its real. Also one last question, it that intake manifold original on that blue sprint above? The one im looking at seems to have a slightly different one.

I can't really tell from the pic above, but it may be an Explorer manifold (very similar to Cobra)? Are there a series of small ridges on the "flat" side (driver's side) of the manifold? That single large ridge looks sus.

EDIT actually I'm confused as... Here's two views of an Explorer manifold:

Image

Image

Note the ridges along the top (driver's side) AND the side. Plus your manifold and the cobalt sprint's manifolds have two "horns" along the side, while my Explorer only has one.

No small ridges, just the big one closer to the top which that blue sprint hasn't.

Pink master cylinder res looks right, power steering cooler behind grill (look near belt routing sticker on rad support).
The homo kit and spoiler could be optioned if the original buyer was a wanker.
It's got the right MAF, and the original airbox lid (red sticker on MAF and lid).
Manifold is right, there are different castings of cobras.

it looks kind of high for a sprint?

does it go good?

there fair bit more powerful then say a normal 5 litre
70mm t/b and maf, extractors and exhaust, 2500 stall, stage 2 shift kit, ultra lows, pioneer/clarion stereo.

soon to be 347...
