My First E-series Ef Futura

Introduce yourself and your ride.

My First E-series Ef Futura

Postby blakestone001 » July 23rd, 2008, 8:40 pm

Hey guys, Just thought I should introduce myself and my ride.

My names Blake and this is my 94 ef futura.

I got it for $1000 off ebay a few months ago to fix up and use as a daily. I had to replace the motor and a few little things but I finally got it going and registered.
Its got a few little dings here and there but it comes up alright with a clean.
Luckily it already had some goodies on it including exhaust, extractors, superlows and some fairmont bits. All I've really done since I got it registered is add the car computer.

Future plans are
Replace Diff (3.45 LSD)
Wade cam
New front end (fairmont or xr6 whichever comes up first)
Fairmont seats
18's
Lpg fitted.
Enjoy car.

Nice to see another person running a carPC in a Falcon! What sort of system are you running?

I'm running one as well. Takes about 10 seconds from start til music is playing, so not too bad.

My system is a 7" Lilliput touchscreen moulded into the dash and a Acer laptop in the boot, running RoadRunner as the frontend. Fairly simple to setup, and much much MUCH more storage for music / videos than anything a headunit can offer. Also, I could run GPS, games, TV, radio, etc, etc but I CBF setting it up. I only use music and videos. The PC also synchronizes with my PDA in the car via Bluetooth so I have all my information from my phone on my carPC, as well as my home PC. Very nerdy, but very cool. :P

Thanks for all the generous comments guys! It looks much better in pictures than in person :P
Theres still a few things on the outside that need fixing up (mainly front bumper, bonnet and side skirts). The previous owner lived up in the country so the front is pretty fingered. It will all get done in time though.

gerendasi wrote:Wow, car PCs are sick. Got any more details on it? Does it take a million years for it to boot each time you start the car etc???

Mines takes about 40 secs to boot up. If I was to run it in stand-by mode all the time (like sleep mode on desktops) it would decrease the boot up time dramatically.
braiden wrote:Nice to see another person running a carPC in a Falcon! What sort of system are you running?

I'm running a mini-itx system in a custom box under the passenger seat (will eventually move it into the boot just gotta find the time). Its hooked up to a K90 VGA monitor with Centrafuse as the front end.
It certainly does the job of storing music and movies much better than a headunit. No more changing cds ever again!

Some specs for the nerdy ones out there :P
Single DIN Motorised in-dash touchscreen 7 inch K90 LCD screen
VIA M10000 mini-itx
512Mb DDR RAM
80Gb laptop hard disk
Custom build case (made of wood)
M2-ATX 160 watt smart power supply
USB radio mounted internally
USB wireless card (for stealing peoples wireless interenet on the go  )
Picture of the case

Anyway I'm finally picking up my car tomorrow after 3 days without her! I had to send off the head to get reconditioned after the last owner did a nasty head gasket job on it.
I look forward to meeting a few of you at the cruise tomorrow night :D

I picked up both the computer and screen second hand for $300.. which I thought was very cheap considering most decent headunits are around that!
I'm not entirely sure how much a new setup would cost like this. My best guess would be
Computer $200-400
VGA Touchscreen $300-400
Windows $100
Misc cables $50

Of course second hand is going to be way cheaper. You can do it on the cheap by keeping an eye on ebay for people selling unfinished kits or bits and pieces, but it takes time as car pc stuff is hard to come by.
If you want to find out more info about car pcs http://www.mp3car.com is a great website with LOTS of information.

Got a question for you guys.. I was told when I bought the car that it had pacemaker extractors(not sure what model he said) on it, but after seeing another set of 4499s on ebay mine aren't the same... so what are these extractors?!?!

Those extractors look similar to either Genie or Lukey.
