Hi from a n00b

I've been looking around the forums lately after finding you guys on the Google. I have fond memories of family and friends with E-series', my last one was of my friends grandparents from Germany who sold theirs for more than they bought it. Unfortunately I don't own a car yet but am planning on buying one soon after I do a car restoration course at TAFE. If anyone can help me find a reliable car, feel free to tell me about it and will think about it.

I didn't expect this much welcome from this forum, even without a car. Though the people I live with drive a 2003 Avalon and they take me to work in it if I need to. (I expect lots of flaming but it wasn't my choice) To avoid starting another thread, what are some ways (apart from LPG) to save money on petrol with these cars? I need the space of a large car but with rising costs of petrol, I don't know if I will be able to afford it. How much would it cost to convert to manual? I'm writing this here to avoid making short threads everywhere.

Eseries are not good cars to conserve money with... unless you just buy a shitty EA for 100 bucks, drive it till it blows up and repeat, even then you'll probably be spending 100 a week... if not more..

That's not really true.

You can pick up a decent EB Spac or similar for, what, $1500-$2000? Lower it, put an exhaust on it and a K&N filter or something and theres a pretty enjoyable daily driver for well under $5000.
Plus parts are cheap and they're easy to work on, what more could you want?

If you buy it for 2k, with your mods you'd have change from an extra 500 bux, if you're smart.

But if your getting an auto and swapping it later pick up an EF futura for cheap. better on fuel than EA-Ds. For $2k you should be able to pick a half decent one up.
