Which Laptop Do you Prefer? (Need advice)

Postby Hybrid34 » August 13th, 2008, 11:38 pm

Hey all, Im looking into buying a laptop within the next week or so but I don['t know which one to get,
Basically want a small compact laptop to type, watch movies and so forth (won't be gaming), Im sick of lugging my 15.4" Laptop around
I've narrowed it down to these two laptops
which do you prefer?
-Asus 901
http://www.lmc.com.au/products/Notebook ... earl_White

-MSI Wind
http://www.lmc.com.au/products/Notebook ... ay/XP_Home®_Black
http://eeepc.asus.com/global/901.htm

Much advice would be great (and any other recommened laptops in its specs and price range)

ABS = spongy brakes, but you'll slow to about 60

non-ABS = lock up at 100 & skid past the roo doing about 95. But you'll look sick doing it

I personally prefer the Wind, UMA graphics, has everything you will need for the net and watching movies, only bad point is the camera is worse. The EEEPC is running Windows and Linux, don't think you really have any need for that unless you want to play around with it, or code or something.

I like the wind because of the full keyboard capacity along with the bigger screen n 80gig hdd,
only thing i don't like about it is it only has 3cell battery which is like 3-4hrs, as opose to the EEEpc which is 6cell having 8hrs battery life:S

Small and compact, Macbook air is the way to go. Word on the street is the lower class of macs (non mac book pros) are moving away from aluminium chassis and going for a plastics to bring the price down to compete with the latest asus etc.

But Macs are so much more practical, no one writes virus's for them, they are stable, batterys are good and they utilise the hardware good.

Chalk up another vote from me for the MacBook. I have a MacBook PRO now but as you said 15.4" is a little bit too big I think. I will be getting a Black MacBook when I get rid of the PRO that I have now.

Hi all, Just to let you all know I brought an ASUS 901
1.6ghz Intel Atom CPU
2gb Ram
12Gb SSD Memory (not bothered as i have a 150gig external)
8.9Inch Screen
Wireless
Bluetooth
and 6hours of battery life (if i upgrade to an8cell instead of 6 i'll get 8hrs battery life)
Can't complain at this notebook at all, its really really small (as light if not ligther than a book its size)
Does everythign I want it to do
Anyone else got one?
Cheers

I would recommend Thinkpad or Mac over any other brand on the market. Also Think centre. Would never recommend anything with Vista.

Thinkpad and Macbook pro are the 2 highest rated laptops on the market. Thinkpad is great for a office environment even games. Mac is all round awesome but $$$.

Thinkpad are that good we are still waiting 10weeks for laptops on backorder cause they cannot keep up with demand.

Also thinkpads are in a good price range.

haha nah, you got it all wrong. You can download applications of all kinds for MacBooks.
iSaber lets you pick up the laptop, swing it around and it makes the same noise as a light saber does. Bigger momentum in your swing gets a more intense light saber sound and so forth. A sudden halt gives off the sound of 2 sabers clashing. Good for nothing but kinda cool. :geek:
Can a Windows PC do that??? :D Didn't think so :P

You can use the remote to put it into security mode too. So when it's lifted, it beeps real loud like an alarm. Then use the remote to switch the alarm off.
I'll try n find a youtube link. They do heaps of cool shit. Tap the left side of the monitor (on MacBook) to switch between desktops. I think that's a time machine app

haha its good stuff, but its all little features they add in, i mean seriously whos going to use their laptop as a light saber?
these three 'gadgets' that your showing...how many people would use them?...If you want a light saber go buy one...if you want to take a photo for motion...buy a security camera.
Macs are good laptops but are very very restricted to options and administrative tools....why do you think majoirty of main frames in companies work off Microsoft?
Mac computes are good for video editing as their more user friendly...

Macs are not designed to be admininstrative/hack/customisable too much because that doesn't appeal to the general public. Most people want a computer that will do what they want (which in most cases will be: store music neatly, have as little lag time as possible, display photos nicely, play games and most importantly, for it to entertain you).
Sure Windows is used for pretty much all corporate networking etc but thats because that's what they're for. Macs aren't. You'd be a moron to try and moderate a business network with a Mac
