Need help

Postby seephil » August 26th, 2007, 11:39 pm

Hi all,
My sister is kind and has agreed to hand me her 1993 ford falcon before she leaves overseas for work. It will officially be my first car and i have to say i'm really excited. However i don't know much about ford and i know i might need to do a bit of work on it. Mechanically, i know parts might need replacing and what not. If anyone has the same car, please give me some insight of what i might be looking for. And if some one could help introduce a mechanic(in Melbourne) who is value for money that would be awesome. I'm not planning to modify it extensively, but probably in the near future i might want to get rims and possibly bucket seats. Most definitely i won't be touching the engine or increasing the power. It has a LPG tank and apparently my sister said that every 10 years it needs to be re-certified or something similar. Is this true?
Sorry guys/girls...there are just so many questions to ask and i know its hard to explain, especially when i have got the keys yet...Hahaha.

If anyone could help me, it'll be very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Phillip

Welcome Kenster :D

So you've got an essentially stock EB and wish to keep it that way other than a few cosmetic changes? Is it in need of any mechanical maintenance/repairs? I'm not exactly sure what you want from your post.

Let us know what seems to be troubling you in the mechanical department with your EB and we'll do our best to help out with our innernets diagnosis service.

By the way, don't go to a mechanic and say "something seems a bit skewiff with the car. Can you pop the bonnet and fix it?" Because all the mechanic will hear is "look at me! I'm touching my toes! My wallet is in my back pocket too"

PS: Bench seats FTW

i think what he is saying is:

-he now has a 93 ford
-he doesn't know much (if anything) about the car and wants to know if there are any problems with this car he should look out for (aka headgasket etc).
-wants the name of a mechanic he can trust, and trusts the opinion of the users here.

Congrats on the new car, how many K's has it done? do you know what kind of driving it has done? ie. all highway, all city, all short runs etc.
So much RAM the motherboard twisted off the POST.

I lost 3 cylinders... but gained a turbo...

Cheers guys for your replies.

Yeah, its done about 200,000+km. Well my sister is actually based oveseas, and she only returns every 2-3years. Within those 2-3years, its been locked up in her in-laws and apparently only driven once/twice a year. However when she returns she uses it daily for 2-3 months at a time. I know it sounds complicated(sorry guys) but thats what she tells me. It hasn't broken done once nor has it failed to start, so i take that as a good sign :D lol. I'll only get the car on Wednesday though.
Just some basic things (for now) that i would like to know:
The tire arrangement;if i were to search for alloy rims, what specs am i after. I think its stil using the stock rims so what size tires/rims are suitable? Do you think i can use these rims? Or would i need to get extra parts(spacers or what not) just to fit it.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=003

I'm thinking of putting HID light bulbs for the headlights. Possibly get bucket seats too.

If anyone could recommend me a mechanic in melbourne, that would be well appreciated too. Obviously someone that can be trusted and not rip me off.

Says they suit Fords in the ad.

Ford stud pattern is 5x114.3, meaning 5 studs, with a PCD (something Circle Diameter) of 114.3mm. If you make a circle out of the 5 stud holes, their diameter is 114.3mm. The Holden PCD is slightly larger IIRC.

Careful with Ford-spec rims, as AU-onwards have an offset of around +35 I think, while E-Series and earlier offsets are 0.

If you're intent on getting those rims in the ebay add, make sure they have a PCD of 114.3 and an offset of 0.

Sounds like the EB is a bit of a trooper ;) Keep an eye out on the For Sale section here (viewforum.php?f=9) as there's often an interior and/or seats up for grabs.

Welcome mate.

Regarding mechanics in Melbourne, I know a couple I can suggest but it all depends which part in Melbourne you're residing.

Hey all,
Just got my car not so long ago. Sorry i was misinformed on what model.

I'm currently driving a stock 1991 EA falcon. It needs some work on it, especially the suspension. Apparently my sis said that the front ball joints needs replacing and work done on it. other than that its a dream having it and i'm estatic cos its my first car.

Planning to do some other upgrades on it sooner or later.
i.e mags, bucket seats, cd player and car alarm/immobiliser.

Still need help on contacts who do ford parts. so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Welcome to the forums phil,
Hope this EA turns out to be alright.
Interesting you've chosen to log onto and post on a 'Boosted Falcon Forum' when you quite freely say in your previous post...
