WHAT SPRINGS SHOULD I BUY ????

Postby MIKES_EL6 » August 20th, 2008, 10:07 am

HEY,

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST FALCON, IT'S A EL GLI STOCKIE,
IT EVEN HAS STANDARD BOAT SUSPENSION AND IS A 6 SEATER WITH COLUM AUTO.

IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOWERED BEFORE I ROLL THE BLOODY THING. :o

WHAT SPRINGS DO YOUS RECOMMEND???
IT STILL HAS FACTORY 15" ALLOYS AND WILL PROB KEEP THEM ON FOR A WHILE, UNLESS ANY ONE HAS SOME CHEAP RIMS GOING???

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT AS I REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOOD ON THESE BEASTS.

CHEERS :D

Everyone will have a different opinion on what you should get.
If your going JUST for looks, then you can go past King Spring SSL's. Ive got SSL's in my EF XR6, and it sits nice.
Im sure someone else will say stay clear from them. but thats my opinion. I like them.

i agree.
depending on ride height ur after, and practicality (speed humps SUCK!), either kins sprins SL or SSL (Ultra low)
you're also going to want new shock all round and a camber kit for front or tyres sit like // \\ on the road.
have a look in the technical section, stickied in the brakes driveline, suspension part.

Kings SSL is meant to be a touch lower, buuuut King Spring quality control leaves a lot to be desired.

I think Pedders are lower on all variations and consistent too. Plus they ride a bit nicer.

Wait, I think I read that question wrong.....

Pedders Superlows are pretty much between KS SSL and KS SL, so matched to KS, Pedders are lower. Dunno about riding nicer tho, its more in the shock choice.

A lot of awesome posts in here.

To the OP - if you want to go the cheap/easy route, just score any set of lows and retain your std shocks, no camber kit, etc.

Read XRated's thread for more info, as XRated himself pointed out. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=144

To a degree. But go for a ride in a car with Lovells springs and then in one with Pedders springs.. The Lovells have really thin (and I think fewer) coils making it a shitty sloppy ride.

Thanks heaps for your input guys, :D
it has helped me heaps, i think im gonna go the king spring superlows, as im still running 15'' stockies and might upgrade to larger wheels later on when i have some more $$$.

One more question :?:

how will i go with standard shockers and will i need a chamber kit????
Front tyres are scrubbing out already on outside edge of tyre???

Cheers

Always helps if you have a camber kit. Will save you money in the long run. Last thing you want it to buy new set of tyres every 6 months or so.

Superlows + std shockers? Expect a harsh as fukk ride (rock hard bump, catapult rebound) and stuffed shockers within 3-6 months depending on the roads you drive on & kms you rack up in that time.

Been there, done that.

You must drive on freeways all the time Josh :P

As soon as I hit a bump or a pothole (with the superlow/std shock combo), the EB sure as hell let me know about it. To the point where I sheared one of the 3 studs that holds the spring/shock to the shock tower.

It comes down to a matter of opinion really, Ive got King Superlows and std shocks and, sure if I hit a decent bump ya know about it but.. I wouldnt say it was harsh or overly rough.. .. Firm ;) . Im really happy with the ride, only scrubbed a few times going through some gulleys with a carload of mate amd thats with 8mm spacers all-round.

And Central QLD roads are to put simply... dodgy. Ive been on dirt roads in the West that are way smoother then our highways here.

Personally, id go Pedders Superlows + Pedders short shocks. Ive got that in mine and I reckon the ride is pretty good.

you dont need shortened shocks, but i'd put a new set up under there sooner rather than later as it will help with firmness in the drive, which is what you seem to want, and of course shorter shocks will benefit this further.

If you dont go with short shocks, you'll be replacing shocks at less than half their recommended lifespan with superlows.

Or you can keep the standard shocks and extend your shock hats to avoid bottoming out.
I imagine this'd give a bouncy ride though

Get onto either Pedders, or Bursons or somewhere that sells springs, ask them how much? Were not exactly a catalogue :P

Springs go for around $160 a pair, shocks around the $200 mark a pair.
